Chapter 280: A Grueling Battle with Magellan!
Shane looked up, his gaze calm as the three poison dragons lunged at him. "The Venom-Venom Fruit…"
He didn't dodge. Instead, he took a powerful step forward, clenched his right fist, and met them head-on!
BOOM!!!
A terrifying shockwave erupted! The three poison dragons disintegrated the moment they touched the force of his punch. Purple venom splattered everywhere, corroding the ground and creating sizzling pits. Some of it splashed onto his skin, but it was like raindrops on a reef, leaving not a single mark.
"This level of poison…" Shane grinned, looking down at the purple liquid flowing down his arm. He casually flicked his wrist, and the venom was flung off like ordinary water droplets. "…can't even make my skin itch!"
If it couldn't penetrate his Haki armor, it was completely useless. No threat at all!
How?!
Magellan's pupils shrank, his eyes wide with disbelief. His "Hydra" technique was incredibly potent. Countless infamous pirates had fallen screaming to its poison, and they had feared him like the plague ever since. But this man… he hadn't even bothered to dodge, completely immunizing himself with Armament Haki alone?!
"Impossible!" Magellan roared. His muscles bulged, and all the venom in his body began to boil. "No one in the world should be able to do that! Venom Demon: Hell's Judgment!"
SPLAT!
Unlike the previous purple venom, a thick, crimson poison erupted from his body, instantly forming a skeletal giant dozens of meters tall. This was his ultimate technique, far more terrifying than the Hydra. Its poison was so potent it could consume anything; just summoning it made the very air sizzle and corrode!
"A Susanoo? Now this is getting interesting." A spark of interest flashed in Shane's eyes as he watched the crimson poison giant rise from the ground. The toxicity had jumped several levels. As expected of the Warden of Impel Down, he had a few tricks up his sleeve. If he got tangled up with poison of this level for too long, a slight misstep could indeed allow it to corrode his Haki and seep into his skin.
But unfortunately… it had gotten bigger and stronger, but it had also gotten slower! It still posed no threat to him!
As the crimson giant lunged, Shane's figure vanished like a phantom. The giant's attack slammed down, only to shatter a patch of rock on the ground.
"Where are you looking? I'm over here."
A cold voice came from behind the poison giant. Magellan spun around in terror to see Shane in mid-air, his right leg raised high. In the next instant, his leg, wreathed in black-and-red lightning, came down like a battle-axe!
BOOM!!!
With a deafening roar, the poison giant's head was shattered from the neck up. Crimson venom rained down. But the force of the kick, still wrapped in black-and-red lightning, didn't diminish. It tore through the giant's body and slammed down on Magellan's head!
"Dammit!" Magellan's face changed. He desperately raised his arms to block, but he was powerless. With the sickening crack of breaking bone, he was smashed several meters deep into the ground!
"The giant is gone. Next, Magellan, let's see how many of my punches your real body can take… First punch!"
Shane didn't pause. He landed and instantly threw his left fist, wrapped in black-and-red lightning, at Magellan's abdomen! Magellan's vision swam, his mind hazy, but he still managed to instinctively gather a large amount of venom to defend himself. But the moment the punch made contact, his venom armor was pierced, shattering like paper.
"PUAH!" Magellan spat out a mouthful of blood, his body curling into a ball as he was sent flying.
"Second punch!"
Shane flashed into Magellan's flight path, his right fist coming up in a vicious uppercut that connected with his chin. Magellan's head snapped back with a sickening crunch, and he shot up like a cannonball, slamming into the ceiling.
"Third punch!"
Shane shattered the ground beneath him and charged forward. He clasped his hands together into a hammer, and with a savage grin, he brought them down on Magellan, who was embedded in the wall!
BOOM!!!
The entire prison trembled violently. The ground within a hundred-meter radius of Magellan collapsed. The incredibly powerful shockwave sent the approaching guards flying. Even Hannyabal, on the ground, was so terrified that snot and tears streamed down his face; he had to cling to a pillar to avoid being blown away.
Hoo~
The dust slowly settled. Shane casually brushed the dirt from his clothes and stood up straight. "To take that many punches before going down… you can be proud of yourself."
Behind him, Magellan lay at the center of a giant crater, the whites of his eyes showing. He was covered in blood, and after a few twitches, he lay completely still, unconscious.
"Warden… Warden?!" Hannyabal screamed in terror, kneeling beside Magellan, his face a mask of disbelief.
How did this happen? How is this possible?! He, Hannyabal, had been in this prison for seventeen years! He was ambitious, power-hungry, and wanted Magellan's job more than anyone. But in his heart, Magellan had always been an unreachable, powerful, reliable, almost invincible figure! But… but against this man named Shane… after he got serious, he was completely defeated in just three punches and a kick?!
"Don't worry, he's not dead," Shane said. He glanced at the keys on Magellan's belt but didn't bother to pick them up. He scanned the area and then turned his gaze to the stairs leading to the next level. "Now, no one should be in my way, right?"
The next level was the Freezing Hell, mostly housing pirates with bounties around 100 million. Nothing worth stopping for. And in the crevice below that, Level 5.5, were Ivankov and Inazuma. In terms of allegiance, they were allies. But the whole Newkama Land thing… it was a bit much for him. And he couldn't for the life of him figure out why these revolutionaries were hiding in a place like this for over a decade. Was it some plan of Dragon's? It was just too strange. In any case, if Ivankov didn't come out to see him, he had no interest in seeking them out. Straight to the bottom level. With that thought, Shane started walking towards the stairs.
Tap.
Just then, a bloody hand grabbed his ankle. Hmm? Shane looked down to see that Hannyabal had somehow crawled to his feet. He looked up with all his might and rasped, "The Warden is down… but I'm still here. Hey, pirate… I… I will never…"
Before he could finish, Hannyabal's head lolled to the side, and he passed out. The finger pistol wound in his thigh had been left untreated, and he had finally succumbed to blood loss.
Seriously, he's a grown man acting like a hot-blooded shonen protagonist. And that makes me look like the final boss… Shane shook his head, exasperated. He gently removed Hannyabal's hand and continued towards the stairs. The guards he passed all shrank back in terror, trembling, practically trying to merge with the walls, not daring to block his path.
Level 6, the Eternal Hell.
This was the most terrifying and mysterious part of Impel Down, housing countless heinous criminals who could shake the world, some of whom were legends from a bygone era. The World Government had intentionally erased their names from history, and now, many of them had been forgotten by the sea.
At the end of the dark corridor, RUMBLE~, Shane pushed open the heavy steel doors and stepped into the prison. He was met with a wave of stale air, thick with the smell of blood and decay. The torches on the walls flickered, stretching his shadow long.
From the cells near the entrance, pairs of crimson eyes lit up, glancing over at him.
"Hmm? A hot blonde showed up this morning, and now someone else is already being sent down?"
"A guy can't even get a decent night's sleep… Hey, wait, this kid came in by himself. He doesn't look like a prisoner. Tsk, a new guard for Impel Down?"
"He's got guts, hehe. The only ones who dare to enter Level 6 alone are Magellan and Shiryu. That Hannyabal guy nearly pees his pants if we so much as tease him a little."
"Newbies are always so arrogant. Hey, kid, didn't your superiors warn you? Level 6 is not a place for rookies like you!"
Shane ignored the prisoners' taunts, his calm gaze sweeping over the cells on either side, searching for the bounty hunter. But the moment he took a step forward—
"I'm talking to you, you dare to ignore me?! Hey! Are you looking to die, kid?!"
VWOOM!
A terrifying pressure erupted from a cell on the right, rushing towards him! Conqueror's Haki! And that was just the beginning. Like a line of dominoes, a dozen more prisoners unleashed their own Conqueror's Haki, which intertwined and clashed in the air as it surged towards Shane, causing the entire sixth level to hum and tremble!
"Hahaha, scared now, kid?!"
"Besides those two monsters, this is a place the other guards don't dare to tread!"
"If you can't take it, get on your knees and beg for mercy! Maybe we'll let you live!"
The prisoners' arrogant laughter echoed through the dark prison. Conqueror's Haki, a power found in only one in a million, was a rarity even in the New World. But on Level 6, it was nothing special!
However, when they saw Shane's reaction in the flickering torchlight, their laughter died.
Shane was still standing in the same spot, not a single hair out of place, as if their Haki didn't even exist. When he looked up, his dark eyes were filled with a deep disappointment.
"Is that all you've got?" he said softly, his voice carrying clearly to every prisoner. "It seems that even Level 6 is just a collection of small fry."
In the next instant—BOOM!!!!
A pressure ten times more terrifying than the prisoners' combined Haki erupted from Shane's body! Black-and-red lightning, like raging dragons, swept through the entire sixth level. The ceiling and floor began to crack, and the torches on the walls were instantly extinguished!
"Wh-what?!"
"What kind of terrifying Conqueror's Haki is this…"
"Impossible! Not even Roger… no! Not even Rocks in his prime was this powerful!"
The prisoners were terrified. The dozen or so closest to him were already foaming at the mouth, unconscious. Many of the old-timers who rarely bothered to speak, the true monsters, now opened their eyes, their gazes filled with shock and uncertainty as they watched the figure walking through the darkness. This guy… who the hell is he?!
Just then, "Tsk tsk tsk…" A somewhat chilling laugh came from the depths of the corridor, accompanied by the crisp sound of military boots.
"That was quite the show, everyone," a tall, muscular figure in a white coat emerged from the darkness. Click. He casually lit a cigar, the lighter's flame illuminating his sinister, middle-aged face and the red-and-gold sword at his waist.
"Chief Guard, Shiryu of the Rain!"
"Why is that creep here too?!" the prisoners whispered in terror. Some of them even instinctively shrank back into their cells, clearly traumatized by him.
Clack, clack. Shiryu, a cigar in his mouth, walked slowly to a cell and, without warning, drew his sword.
SWISH!
Blood splattered on the wall. The first prisoner who had taunted Shane stared in shock, clutching his throat as he slowly collapsed.
"A bunch of ignorant fools," Shiryu said, flicking the blood from his blade, his gaze sweeping contemptuously over the cells. "You have eyes, but you don't know how to use them. With that pathetic Haki of yours, you dare to act so presumptuously in front of a true king?"
He turned, and a grin spread across his face as he faced Shane, his violent aura dissipating. He bowed slightly, a gesture of respect. "I have been waiting for you, my lord. These idiots have disturbed your peace. Please forgive them."
Hmm? Shane raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised. He was about to speak when the rattling of chains echoed from the depths of the corridor, followed by a hoarse, old voice. "From the looks of it, this man is not one of your own. Hey, Shiryu, have you turned traitor… Since when did you start bowing to pirates from the outside?"
Shiryu, a cigar in his mouth, slowly turned to the direction of the voice, a cold smile on his lips. "Bowing? Heh…" He casually blew a puff of smoke and rested his sword on his shoulder. The crimson blade glinted in the darkness, making many of the prisoners' hearts skip a beat. "How laughable. You old relics, caged up for so long, abandoned by the era… of course you wouldn't understand what kind of man is standing before you."
Shiryu took a deep breath and then raised his voice, his tone sharp and commanding. "Open your damn eyes and look closely! This man is the current Emperor of the Sea! He has personally slain a Yonko! He has slaughtered Celestial Dragons! His bounty is over five billion Berries—"
"—Lord Shane!"
The entire sixth level was plunged into a dead silence. After a few seconds, a series of sharp gasps could be heard from the depths of the cells.
Hey, is this for real? Are you kidding me? Shiryu hasn't lost his mind, has he? What… what did we just hear?!!!
