Chapter 294: Angewomon!
The black disc shot out, heading straight for the Five Elders! Their eyes were still streaming tears, but their senses had mostly recovered, and they could use their Observation Haki again. Sensing the terrifying wave of energy rushing towards them, their expressions changed. "Dammit!"
The Ushi-Oni, Saturn, was the first in its path. He couldn't dodge. He could only raise his cane in a desperate attempt to block. But with a crack, the cane he had carried for centuries snapped in two, not even slowing the disc for a second!
SHING!
A torrent of blood erupted as the massive Ushi-Oni's body was sliced diagonally from its right shoulder to its left abdomen. Its purple-black entrails spilled out, and Saturn's face contorted as he let out an inhuman, piercing shriek. "MOO-AAAAAHHH!!!"
Dammit! The sheer quantity and quality of that Conqueror's Haki had temporarily suppressed his infinite regeneration, making him feel a pain he hadn't experienced since becoming one of the Five Elders!
HISS! HISS!
Even after slicing the massive demon in two, the Destructo Disc's momentum didn't falter! In the next second, the Itsumade, Saint Mars, who was circling low in the sky, had its left wing and claws sheared off, raining blood down.
"My hand!" Mars shrieked, the elegant composure on its phoenix face replaced by a twisted mask of agony.
It wasn't over! The Destructo Disc, having reached its apex, now shot downwards, hurtling towards two other Elders! In a flash, it sliced off half of the Houki's, Saint Warcury's, tusk and the Sandworm's, Saint Peter's, tentacles! The two suffered lighter injuries, but they still roared in pain.
"Nusjuro!!!" Peter bellowed, gritting his teeth.
"I know!" The Bakotsu, Saint Nusjuro, was the last one, and the first to regain his sight. His face was like ice as his hooves galloped forward, and he swung the Shodai Kitetsu with all his might.
VWOOM!
A pure white sword slash shot into the sky and, after a brief stalemate, finally dispersed the last of the Destructo Disc's power. By then, the disc had already incapacitated one Elder and seriously wounded three others!
"The effect exceeded my expectations," Shane nodded, quite satisfied with the result. The Destructo Disc, when fully charged, was ridiculously powerful, but its drawback was the long charge time and the massive presence it gave off before it was even launched. These five old geezers were cowards! The moment they sensed that overwhelming Haki, they would have never taken it head-on. Only by using the Solar Flare to stun them first and buy enough time to charge could the Destructo Disc be used to its full potential!
"You bastard…" Nusjuro's face was grim. He sheathed his cursed sword, turned, and looked down at the bisected Saturn. The two halves of its body were writhing on the ground, trying to regenerate, but a constant crackle of black-and-red electricity on the wounds was preventing it.
"Saturn!" Nusjuro roared. "How are you?! Can you recover?"
"G-give me some time…" Saturn gasped, his voice weak. "This kid's Haki is extremely difficult to get rid of. I won't be able to help you for a while."
Useless! Nusjuro's face turned livid. He stomped a hoof, shaking the ground. He looked up at Shane in the sky, a cold, ghostly fire in his eyes. "A mere commoner from the lower world, daring to push us to such a state… Shane! Today, no matter what, you will be executed here!"
Without Saturn, their fighting strength was diminished, and they could no longer use the "Divine Binding." But it didn't matter! With the four of them and Sakazuki, it was five against one. This kid still didn't stand a chance!
"You and what army?" Shane sneered. He reached behind his back, his thumb pushing the guard of his sword.
CLANG!
The clear ring of a blade echoed across the battlefield. Black-and-red Haki coiled around the blade, and a magnificent sword slash that seemed to split the heavens shot towards Nusjuro!
Divine Departure!
"A slash from the World's Strongest Swordsman?" Nusjuro snorted. He stomped on the empty air and swung the Shodai Kitetsu to meet the attack. "That title has changed hands too many times over the past century. I'm eager to see just how skilled the current holder of that title is!" When it came to pure swordsmanship, he was also a grandmaster at the pinnacle, with a confidence second to none!
BOOM!
The black-red and pure white sword slashes clashed in mid-air, tearing the dark clouds in two!
THUD THUD!
Nusjuro was knocked back several steps, his face flushing red. He was clearly at a disadvantage in this exchange. But he had managed to take the full force of the Divine Departure head-on, all by himself.
"The old geezer's got some skills," Shane grinned. It seemed that the other four Elders were, as he had suspected, at the level of a top Yonko commander at best. It was only their regenerative abilities that made them a pain to deal with. But this kimono-clad Elder, Nusjuro, with the Shodai Kitetsu in hand, was different. He was a cut above the rest, having already crossed the threshold into the Admiral/Yonko tier!
If he remembered correctly, the third-generation Pacifistas, which were far superior to the original models, had all been taken out by this old man during the Egghead arc. More than a dozen of them… all instantly killed by Nusjuro's sword, without a chance to fight back.
With this old man and Akainu, this was going to be a tough fight. But Shane didn't mind. In fact, his grin widened. An opportunity for a good fight like this was exactly what he wanted!
"Borsalino?!" Just then, Akainu's shocked and angry roar rang out.
Hmm? Shane also noticed and looked over. A golden figure was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing into the molten ground beside Akainu and creating a crater dozens of meters wide. The dust cleared to reveal Kizaru's blood-stained face. He clutched his chest and spat out a mouthful of blood.
Akainu's face changed. He was about to go to him, but Kizaru waved him off. "Don't worry, I'm a little beat up, but it's nothing serious," Kizaru said, straightening up and wiping the blood from his mouth. "But what about you, Sakazuki… hmm?" His gaze fell on Akainu's empty sleeve, his eyes widening in surprise.
Akainu's face turned livid. "You haven't taken down Shane either?" Kizaru slapped his forehead and let out a bitter laugh. "Then the situation is really terrible. I couldn't hold back those four either…"
Before he could finish, SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH! Four figures descended from the sky, landing on the surrounding ruins and encircling Kizaru and Akainu. It was Kuina, Fujitora, Kuma, and Jack!
"Borsalino!" Nusjuro roared in fury. "To be defeated so quickly, you bastard! Is this the best you can do?!"
"It's a misunderstanding, my lords~" Kizaru's eye twitched. Is this payback for all the times I've slacked off? He held up his hands in surrender. "I really did give it my all this time. But the enemy suddenly started fighting like their lives depended on it. I just couldn't hold on…" An army of one, holding back a peer of his own level and three other powerful enemies for several hours… it was an impressive feat!
The situation had deteriorated so suddenly because of the Five Elders' arrival. The four top officers, who had been barely held at bay, had gone berserk when they saw the Five Elders ganging up on Shane. They had started fighting with a reckless abandon, trading blows to break through his defenses. That girl, Kuina, had been like a demon, using all sorts of life-threatening tactics. He was already exhausted, and in the end, he just couldn't hold on.
"Hmph, useless!" Nusjuro's cold gaze swept over Kizaru, then to the bisected Saturn. He began to calculate quickly. The situation is getting worse! It's not five against one anymore, it's six against five! On paper, they still had the advantage. But if the fight dragged on, there was a risk of trading one of their own, and that was absolutely unacceptable! As the rulers of the Celestial Dragons, the highest authority of the World Government, their lives were far too precious. They had descended to the lower world because they were certain they could kill Shane. Now that that hope was gone, was there really any need to fight these commoners to the death?
"Hesitating? What are you deliberating over…" Shane's mocking voice rang out as his figure flashed and vanished. "You're not afraid of dying, are you, old geezers?!" In the next moment, he appeared in front of Akainu, his fist, wreathed in black-and-red lightning, slamming into his chest! "I'll take care of this red dog! The rest are yours!"
"Yes, my lord!"
"Understood!"
Kuina, Fujitora, Kuma, and Jack all responded in unison and charged!
"Gravity Blade: Raging Tiger!" Fujitora went straight for Kizaru, his casual swing unleashing a purple slash dozens of meters wide that made Kizaru's long face even longer.
"Bepo Shock!" Kuma extended his right palm, and the shockwave from it swelled into a giant, hundred-meter-wide paw-shaped sphere that hurtled towards the giant beast, Houki.
"Giga Horns Breaker!" Jack transformed into a mammoth, his tusks coated in dense Armament Haki, and charged at the giant Sandworm.
"Last Breath!" Kuina became an azure-blue cyclone, shooting hundreds of meters into the sky, the tip of her sword aimed at the giant bird, Itsumade, circling above!
RUMBLE!!!
The attacks of Shane and his four top officers erupted at the same time, and their opponents scrambled to defend themselves. The entire battlefield descended into chaos!
CRACK!
Shane and Akainu were the first to break apart. Shane stumbled back a dozen meters before steadying himself. Akainu, however, was sent staggering back a hundred steps, spitting out a mouthful of black blood.
"It seems that severed arm has taken a toll on your stamina after all," Shane said, casually shaking his wrist. "I thought it would take until tomorrow for us to settle this, but things are different now."
"Nothing's different!" Akainu's eyes were icy. "Don't get too happy! Once I tear off your arm, things will be fair again!" In Akainu's mind, the Five Elders were mostly to blame for his severed arm, but since he couldn't do anything about them, he would vent all his anger and frustration on this kid!
Shane couldn't even be bothered to reply. A severed arm? He was supposed to be afraid of that? How amusing. He had cut off his own arms countless times to test his regenerative abilities. If he could have sacrificed them, he would have been rich by now!
"Arrogant brat!" Just then, the sound of hooves. Nusjuro, his face contorted with rage, swung his sword at Shane's neck from the side. This kid is supposed to be my opponent! We haven't even settled our duel, and the moment the team fight starts, he goes off to fight Akainu again?! And those four commoners, they ignored me?! Me?! He would not accept such an insult!
The slash was incredibly fast, but a red glint in Shane's eye, he dodged back just in the nick of time.
"Lord Shane!" Kuina, who was fighting the bird-monster, saw this and was about to come down. "Leave this one to me!"
"No need," Shane's eyes narrowed as he looked at the giant skeletal horse. "You keep fighting that chicken. You don't have to worry about this old man." Unlike in Sabaody, when Kuina had held off Kizaru by herself, Nusjuro was out for blood. And Kuina, having fought for several hours, was exhausted. She could handle the other four Elders, but against this one, she wouldn't last long and might even be in mortal danger.
"What, you're refusing your subordinate's help? Are you planning to take on two of us at once?!" Nusjuro sneered. "I was hesitant before, but now I see that if there's a real chance to kill you, then even the loss of one of us is an acceptable price to pay!"
"Is that so?" Shane also let out a slow, unhurried laugh. "You old geezer, you really think you have the advantage in numbers, and that I have no more tricks up my sleeve?"
Tricks? What other tricks could he have? Nusjuro was momentarily taken aback, and then he sneered. He's bluffing! Is he going to call on his mid-tier officers? Against his Bakotsu form, against his cursed sword, Kitetsu, they were nothing but cannon fodder!
"Don't you dare—" Just as he was about to mock him, he saw Shane's right palm open and press down on the ground!
Summoning Jutsu!
Summon!
VWOOM!
The moment his palm touched the ground, a black summoning circle spread out, its complex runes writhing like tadpoles. What is this? A teleportation circle? Wait… Nusjuro's face suddenly changed. "This presence…" He felt it! An unfamiliar, holy energy was gathering, and something incredible was about to appear
