Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

At that moment, Megan then face Kelly. Her face was filled with so much pain, her jaw tight, and her eyes narrowed in disbelief. Her hands were shaking, but she didn't care anymore.

"So this was all your plan from the beginning?" she said, her voice a little cracked, but full of anger.

At that moment she pointed at him with her trembling fingers. Her eyes stared deep into his face, searching for something, maybe shame, maybe guilt, but there was none.

"After everything that I did?" she continued. "After taking the fall for you… for you not going to prison?"

Her voice grew louder. Everyone could hear it now.

"After the promise that you and your family made to me… this is how you repay me?" she asked.

Megan took one deep breath, but it didn't help. Her chest still felt tight.

"I wasted five whole long years of my life," she said, voice trembling. "Five whole years of my youthful age… just to take the blame. Because of what your son did. Because of what Kelly did."

She shook her head slowly, biting her lower lip to stop herself from crying in front of everyone.

"Because I loved you," she added, pointing again at Kelly. "Because I knew at that time that if you went to jail, it would disturb the family business."

Her voice softened, but the pain behind it was strong.

"Not when the family business was about to hit another new height… I had to take the fall."

Her hands dropped to her sides slowly. "And this was my return? This was how you all planned to thank me?"

At that moment, Kelly then walk closer to Megan. He walked slowly with pride in his steps and no single sign of regret on his face, his confidence had returned.

"Megan, you are just disgracing yourself," Kelly said, shaking his head like he was talking to a child. "Look around. Everyone's watching."

He let out a small, cruel laugh.

"If you were not really, really stupid, you wouldn't think it was going to work anymore," he added.

Hearing Kelly word's, Megan blinked fast. "What did you just say?"

Kelly stepped even closer.

"Since you don't quite understand who I am now… Let me remind you."

He raised his chin with pride.

"I'm Kelly Bushman. One of the top five… I'm among the top five leading young entrepreneurs in this country," he said with his chest high, his voice loud so others could hear.

Then he looked at her from head to toe.

"So both of us—our class does not match again," he said with a smirk.

Then he stepped back, adjusting his suit.

"Like if you were in my shoes, would you even consider me?" he asked. " You're… an ex-convict now."

He shook his head and laughed again.

"Just imagine, people will say, 'Oh, that's Kelly Bushman, and his wife is an ex-convict.' That is not even possible."

At that moment he turned slightly, hands in his pockets.

"I'm never going to allow that. Both of us… we are not on the same level anymore."

Megan then shake her head in disappointment. Her eyes were fixed on Kelly like she no longer recognized the man standing in front of her. The room had gone silent again, and everyone was watching them.

"So we are not in the same class anymore?" Megan asked, her voice calm but filled with pain. She repeated his words slowly, as if each one was cutting into her chest.

Kelly then shake his head without even thinking twice.

"Yeah," he said coldly. "You heard me right. We are not in the same class anymore."

He straightened his suit and smiled proudly, his voice louder now.

"My status now is far, far greater than what you can ever think of."

Megan blinked fast, holding back her tears. She stepped a little closer, pointing at him.

"But when you were kneeling… when the whole of your family were on their knees, begging me to help you… we were on the same class then, right?" she asked.

Her voice cracked a little. "When you cried and told me that you were finished, and that I was the only one who could help you. That I should take the blame so you don't go to prison… remember that day, Kelly? We were the same then, weren't we?"

She looked around at the people watching. "If not for my sacrifice, would you even be standing here today?"

Megan words made Kelly's face changed slightly, but he quickly looked away.

"Well," he said, trying to sound unbothered, "sacrifices are meant to be made. And yes, you actually did yours."

He shrugged and added with a blank expression, "I didn't say you didn't do anything. But what I'm trying to tell you is that we are not in the same class anymore. The little thing we shared… it would never work."

He then turned his hand and gestured toward his new wife standing nearby, smiling confidently.

"Did you see her?" he asked with pride in his voice. "Can you see her?"

He pointed clearly now, his face full of arrogance.

"Can you compare yourself to her? Just look at yourself."

His eyes moved down her body slowly, judging her from head to toe.

"You're an ex-convict, Megan. You can't offer me anything anymore. You can't do anything in your own life anymore."

He paused, smiling like he was proud of what he was saying.

"You are limited to many things now."

At that moment, she's going to be like, "Well… I see it like I shouldn't just chase you without giving you anything. I know that might be a problem, and what I'm about to give to you is going to go a long way in at least settling you down before…"

So at that moment, he would then gesture towards the document.

Kelly then continue, still standing tall like he was doing Megan a big favor.

"Well," he said with a fake smile, "just because of our past… you know, the time we spent together… and the little sacrifice you made."

He tilted his head slightly and nodded toward the brown envelope in Jessica's hand.

"There's a check inside that divorce paper," he added calmly. "When you sign the divorce paper, you can claim it."

He paused and gave Megan a proud smirk.

"It's worth $100,000. Yes. That's what it can do for you, Megan. At least that money will help you live the kind of life someone like you is worth."

Megan's eyes widened slightly. Her chest rose with anger, but she didn't speak yet.

Kelly continued, like her silence meant nothing.

"So as you can see, I already have somebody that I love already, and she complete me," he said, glancing at his bride.

He smiled again and looked back at Megan.

"So just do the needful," he said with a little shrug, "and get lost."

At that moment, Kelly's parents would then just give that happy girl a look like they were proud of her. But when they looked at Megan, their faces changed completely.

Deborah rolled her eyes hard and covered her nose again with her handkerchief, clearly showing her disgust. Jessica followed, doing the exact same thing.

Deborah then step forward, looking straight at Megan.

She pulled down her handkerchief a bit, just enough to speak.

"You are just fooling yourself, Megan," Deborah said with a cold tone. "Do you even know how you look right now?"

She shook her head slowly.

"You are just disgracing yourself all over the place. You should be ashamed."

She held her handkerchief close again but didn't stop talking.

"Why can't you just sign the goddamn divorce paper and take the money?" Deborah said directly to her. "That's why you came here anyway, right? For the money."

Deborah stepped even closer, raising her voice now.

"If it wasn't because of that check, you wouldn't even be standing here! So what are you wasting time on, Megan? What are you really waiting for?"

At that moment Megan shakes her head in disappointment.

Then with a deadly gaze Megan raised her head.
