Chapter 33 - chapter 33

An engagement, with Kathrine so why was i even here, i get she wants to make a business deal but why do it during dinner, clearing my throat i glanced at the almost couple, Alec looked like he was about to implode with how calm he looked while Kathrine was clinging to his arm like it was her life source.

"oh congratulations" i said, smiling widely

Alec looked at me his eyes darkening, we locked eyes, i looked away i mean its better like this, he'll get married and out of my hair, Kathrine looked at me with her head held high, i shook my head i pitied her. she didn't know what it feels like to be in a loveless marriage but not that i cared though and I'm still wondering why I'm here

"but if you wanted to make a business deal, you could have seen me in my office" i said turning to Mrs. Birkin

she looked at me "oh the engagement is part of the deal" she said, with the polite yet calculated smile she's been wearing all evening

i was getting confused if she wanted a partnership, what has her daughter and Alec's engagement have to do with it "uhm...okay?" i guess i wasnt the only one confused, both Alec and Kathrine stopped and looked at Mrs. Birkin, waiting for her to explain.

"you see Mr Alec is quite smitten with you Miss Millie" she started, i was about to scoff and explain how that is a big fat lie when Alec looked away his facing turning bright red, blinking twice i stared back at him was he having a fever or something

"Alec do you need to see a doctor" Kathrine said, looking at him concerned, i cringed looking at Kathrine, was it that she was just clueless or downright dumb

"it seems that i was right" Mrs. Birkin continued "so i wanted to make a deal with you Miss Millie, if you let go of Mr Alec i will partner with your company"

i picked up my glass of wine calmly placing it on my lips and taking a sip, everyone was staring at me anticipating my answer but the more i thought about it didn't make sense, if Alec agreed to the engagement what does it have to do with me, i looked at Alec who was quietly using his phone, he was back to his aloof self.

Kathrine was looking at me like she'll kill me if i didn't agree, and Mrs. Birkin was smiling at me politely, at this point the smile was creepy, clearing my throat i dropped the glass in my hand

"did Mr Alec, agree to the engagement?" i asked, looking at Mrs. Birkin cause i dont how its in my place to determine if he should marry Kathrine or not, Alec glanced at me for a second and went back to what he was doing on his phone. why wasn't he going to stand up for himself, I'm not his mother to talk on his behalf.

Mrs. Birkin let out a sigh and took a drink "i believe he will if you reject him" she replied, i turned furrowing my eyebrows, i began to count how many times i rejected him yet he was persistent, glancing at everybody on more time i realized they all had something going on in their head.

I got up from the table "if you want an engagement with Mr. Alec the decision is his to make, and if rejecting him is the criteria to make a deal, I'm afraid i'll have to decline your offer" you don't know how many time I've rejected that man, I'm afraid if i said anything else he might appear in my dreams.

"I'll be going home now, its rather late, thank you for inviting me Mrs. Birkin" i said walking out of the dinning room, i let out a sigh the exhaustion was catching up to me, i craved my bed every step i took out of the mansion

reaching my car, i brought out my key about to open it "Miss Millie" a female voice called behind me, turning back it was Kathrine walking towards me with an arrogant look on her face

"can i help you Miss Kathrine" i asked counting the seconds I'm loosing standing here

"you should know your place" she spat out

"excuse me" i narrowed my eyes looking at her

"you just spawned from nowhere and you feel like you're in control, don't think because you have Mr. Alec's attention you are better than anyone, he could discard you at anytime and if you know you can't stick with him through all the threats then you better leave"

i stood staring at Kathrine, i honestly could not grasp the fact that i wasted a good five minutes of my time listening to what she just said when i could have been halfway home by now, if she really wanted to go low i could as well take her to hell, and her parents won't even realize it.

walking closer to her with my face inches to hers "watch the way you talk to strangers, i won't gurantee you will go unscathed" i whispered into her ears, pulling away i walked back to my car, offering a smile "good night Miss Kathrine, it was a pleasure meeting you" i drove away, i guess i had to teach people manners now.
