Chapter 28 - Memoirs (1)

"That woman... Why didn't I see it coming?"

I wailed, but it was too late. Shadows had covered the entire region, leaving me trapped in the sea of darkness. I searched for the familiar feel of my crossbow, but I was out of ammunition. As for my daggers, I'd lost them sometime during my escape.

Stripped of any authority, weaponless, and allies, I came face to face with a death sentence: the Witch of Envy herself.

"Imposter, imposter, imposter..."

She whispered a single word of contempt. Of course, she was furious at having been deceived and manipulated for so long. She didn't seem to understand that I was a victim here too, but has this world ever shown mercy to me?

"You want to kill me, witch? Are you one of those who can't get over their ex?!"

Neither insults nor provocations had any effect on her, which was understandable. Envy was only thinking about one thing, after all.

I jumped to avoid the shadowy hands, but I was running out of solid ground. The end was fast approaching. For the first time, I could do nothing to reverse the outcome.

I held on as long as I could, resisting until the last second, but I was finally swallowed by the shadows. As I sank into absolute darkness, I closed my eyes. Despite everything, I still thought of her, even as my existence was about to be erased.

"You said it would be worth it. Those were your words, weren't they? I hope you don't regret your decision, Pandora..."
