Chapter 171 - Chapter 171: The Crow And The Crown

‎A white expanse of the void greeted the two with white cobblestone for tiles. A faint madness hung in the air, suspended like a cleaver that would make one mad the more they spent in such a space. Callista looked around, a faint smile flashing on her lips.

‎"Wide enough for the madness to ensue." Her voice light as she stretched out her hand and a castle emerged out of nothing. It's size towering the two, it's theme medieval with flags bellowing at nonexistent wind.

‎Jarren however let out a hum as with a thought of his a creature came to be. Callista looked at the summoned being. It had features similar to goblins with jade skin, pointed ears and scrawny clothing however what made this one stand out were the empty and hollow pupils.

‎"That's not life." Callista mused tilting her head. "That's code."

‎*Ding*

‎She shot out a crystal shard that phased through the being. "It would be too much for me to create it in a place like this." He sighed glancing at Callista. "Why not take earth? It's decrepit state should make it easier for assimilation of a new playground for us." Her pose made him give out a faint hum. "I have other plans with earth, this will have to do for now."

‎His response satiating Callista's wonder however something else replaced it. "What plans do you have for earth?" He let out a low menacing chuckle. "You'll see when the time is right kitty." With a glint of his eyes, the terrain of the plain cobblestone changed into a forest, trees that seemed more real than code and wind.

‎The more time passed, the more realistic it looked however Callista didn't seem all that impressed. "Just one type would be too banal, don't you think?" She chimed in stretching out her hand.

‎*Whoosh*

‎Another creature came to be, it's physique similar to that of a dog with pale red skin and embers dripping from it's fangs. It's eyes full of rage and hunger as it looked around noticing the goblin from before. As expected the two engaged in a clash that lasted for a minute with the hound emerging on top.

‎Jarren however didn't seem displeased with this as a light smile flashed on his face. "It would seem that I have to make more layers then to satiate your desires." The white oblivion shook as another multiple layers came into sight. Some above them and others beneath them.

‎She didn't have to see to know what he planned. "That's much better than before." She playfully said glancing around though her eyes were still blindfolded. "It's half done, now we have to make sure that there are challenges in here." He mused as more goblins from before came to be, all of them scurrying into the forest.

‎As for the castle, it stood dominant in the forest amidst the trees. Callista looked above then looked below as her mind began to calculate the game that they were staging. "This shouldn't take long." She muttered to herself as the two began their work.

‎*Two days later*

‎"Should I knock or should you?" A knight hesitantly asked, his tone low as he looked at his comrade. "You do it." His partner added with an irritated yet fearful edge. "What's taking so long?!" A voice filled the air making the two freeze. "Uhm!" They simultaneously tried to come up with an explanation however nothing escaped their lips.

‎"Is it so hard to get such a simple job done?" The man posed, his tone hinting at his dismay as he knocked at the door. Only silence met him making his brows furrow. 'Are these two not here or?' He wondered inwardly but before he could move, the knob jiggled followed with the emergence of two frames.

‎Jarren and Callista, the former with a flat face and the later with a playful smirk. "It would seem that our envoy is here." She said as she made her way through the three, Jarren flashing a smile that lasted no longer than a second before he too made his way past them.

‎"It would seem so." His tone flat as their figures trailed down the hall. The two guards let out sighs of relief seeing their fleeting figures. "What are the two of you relaxing for? Get back to work immediately!" Their leader mused with irritance making the two tense up as they apologized and left.

‎'So those are the two head aches of Caerthalas.' The man, his face cold and calm pondered in his head trying to picture the terror the two could bring to his kingdom. 'I doubt it but everyone wouldn't be wary of them for no good reason. After all their relationship with Redfall makes it harder to deal with them.'

‎He as well as any other person was inwardly cautious of the two as he understood the power the two held. 'But for them to come to Caerthalas so casually would mean that they have their own means of handling themselves or are so confident with Redfall.'

‎He remarked as his figure marched down the hall and out of the inn. He glanced around at the ghost town, most of the streets were empty with a few frail people moving around. The wall meant to protect the town was half complete, the stationed placed out here already cleared out.

‎Althar felt a faint shiver run across his body however as a seasoned leader and commander, he regained his composure rather quickly. Glancing at the two, he let out a sigh at the task ahead of him. "We'll be making our way to the allocated city of Evermead. That is where you will meet the king of Caerthalas. It should take a few days to arrive at Evermead."

‎His tone stern and firm however the two didn't seem all that interested. Jarren sighting it as dull and Callista as something she could dismiss at a whim that irked Althar inwardly however he didn't show it on his face. "Since we'll be spending the next couple of days with you it's only fair that we learn your name." Callista was the first to break the ice.

‎"Or course, my name is Althar, leader of the this platoon." His hands gesturing at the men surrounding the two. Jarren's eyes darted around, still no smile came in sight. 'Looks like it won't be as bad as I had originally anticipated from Wenston.' He sighed with relief as he made his way to his carriage.

‎As for the two, they didn't care about the town they had made ruins of. The families they had ended, the lives they had snuffed as it was nothing more than a game to the two. Horses neighed, reins whipping before their carriages began to move. An envy of five carriages began to barrel down the path deeper into Caerthalas.

‎Two at the front and two at the back, with the pair at the middle.

‎...

‎Callista had her head supported on the window, her face portraying her apathy. "With the two days,I think that since you have something to mark me, it's only fitting if I did the same with you." A sly smile played on her lips, Jarren who seemed half asleep woke up. "Oh, what is it that you may have for me?"

‎His tone exuding curiosity as his eyes trailed Callista's hands.

‎*Whoosh*

‎Within a blink of an eye's time, a creature came to be. This time it's body was made of crystal however a deeper look, it's body wasn't black but a starry constellation of stars mixed with a myriad of colors that felt wrong. Something that was meant to be in the abyss now graced the plane of reality. It's eyes crystalline beads of gold as it looked around similar to a crow.

‎It made it's way to Jarren and perched on his shoulder. Never once making a sound. "Not what I had imagined with you. I expected a leash." His remark eliciting a chuckle from Callista. "Don't be silly my dear, after all you've already forced me to wear collar. Don't you think that you're getting a little carried away?"

‎Jarren's legs crossed over the other, his head perched on his hand with a look of intrigue on his face. "I never forced you to wear the collar, you did it out of your own volition." Her shoulders shrugged as if negating his words. "No! You forced me. I remember it clearly." She added on, her lips betraying a smile.

‎"Well since I forced you, I take it that I have to apologize." Thrilled with this response, she added fuel to the fire. "Of course you should, make it something that would make Guinevere envious, not just her but Clomere as well. I'm sure that I'd love the look on her face." Jarren looked at the horror seated across him.

‎His mind nearly breaking into a laughter thinking that she was as dangerous as the trail of chaos she left behind. "Something to make the two jealous..." His words trailer off as if wondering what gift to give her. "Yes. And no this isn't about the world about the two of us already. It has to be something on top of that."

‎He found himself admiring her hunger for more of him, something that he found absent with Guinevere. However he didn't seemed bothered as his mind began to weave his gift. "I just hope that it won't be as boring making our way to Evermead." She shot out of the blue, he didn't need to think to know what she meant as he prepared himself for what was to come.

‎"Just don't get too lost with your games." He added as he sank back into his half asleep state. "When have I ever gone overboard?" Her words full of theatrics as if refuting any words he held of her. "With such a feral nature, it's hard to tell what you will be indulging in. You might kill a lot of pigeons and yet you won't even take another glance to feast on their corpses."

‎She let out a low mischievous giggle. "Should they be interesting then it's my fault that they invited me to play. After all I admire how high they fly, makes it more satisfying to watch them caw writhing on the ground bleeding out." Her words cynical with an edge of lightheartedness to it.

‎"Just don't stain your fur with blood. It'll be hard to clean your fur." She didn't bother refuting as a shared silence filled the carriage.

‎...

‎"Yeah, they had me dispose a body, a mother and her daughter I would have to assume." Dargath spoke to Seryn who was more shocked the more she heard. "It would seem that the mother was drugged, the child taken advantage of as well. Those two are heartless monsters!"

‎Her mind had no reservation with Jarren and Callista as she branded them as scum. 'To think that the two would be so predatory with a mother and her child.' She knew that what they did was wrong through the lens of humans but her race did it like breathing.

‎Now with consciousness, something inside of her found it wrong with the acts of her kin and the two. "Sadly I had to bury them." Dargath added with a tone of disappointment with his words. However before she could focus on what else he had to say, a pop up filled her vision.

‎[{Ding}]

‎[{The training hub has now been made accessible to you for training. With it you can grow stronger and acquire new weapons without the need of purchasing them with coins}]

‎The message made her freeze as he glanced at Dargath. At first she was shocked that he didn't get such a system that utilized coins and other such mechanics. "Did you get the notification?" Her tone filled with skepticism. "What notification?" Dargath asked with a brow raised. 'It's just as I had expected. It would seem that the two are focusing more on me than with Dargath.'

‎As much as she would be pleased with this, something else lurked in her mind. 'Does this mean that they will kill off Dargath should their find him boring?' She knew how callous the two were when it came to killing. Moralities for them were nothing more than a line that the two could cross as they pleased and repercussions were nonexistent to them.

‎She took a long look at Dargath, her mind falling into thought. 'It would be too soon for his death however that doesn't mean that they can't replace me as well.'
