The task force leader's brows furrowed. He glanced from the golden elevator to the golden card still in Evelyn's hand. Everything about this situation screamed unusual, but one thing was clear Cecilia and Evelyn had not stolen anything, nor caused any disruption except by merely existing. His instincts screamed that Stella and Lady Willow were pushing too hard. With a small nod, he stepped aside. "Very well, Madam. You are free to go."
Immediately the crowd's whispers grew louder at his words, but Cecilia did not spare them a glance. She took Evelyn's hand and began to walk away, her steps graceful, her face calm though her presence radiated an aura that silenced those closest to her.
But just as they moved past, Stella's voice rang out again, sharp with indignation. "How dare you! How dare you walk out on me while I'm still speaking!"
