Chapter 559 - Imperfect Magic

After talking with Leon for a while longer, Rebecca began to feel sleepy, since midnight had arrived. As soon as he saw her fall asleep, Leon got up from the chair, opened the window, and left a few small lines of fire scattered around the room before jumping into the front yard.

[All this concern is unnecessary. I don't think anyone still has the courage to invade knowing you're alert to everything.]

'I can't take that risk. There have already been two attempts that I should have stopped from the very beginning.'

Most of his training now took place right in front of Rebecca's room. That way, he could be certain she was safe. His new training schedule lasted from morning until four in the afternoon. After that, he returned to the chair beside her bed and slept until Rebecca woke up.

'She went to sleep later today... so I can train a little longer.'

[I already figured you'd do that. But tell me, what kind of training will it be today, you training addict?]

'I'm going to try recreating my Crimson Shell in this world.'

[That will be practically impossible.]

Sitting down on the garden grass, Leon closed his eyes and began concentrating as much as possible. The system was right. Recreating the Crimson Shell at its full potential was impossible. At most, he would be able to form an aura around his body, far inferior to the original technique.

'As soon as I arrived in this world and started training, I realized a few things...'

After a few seconds, Leon stood up. Small crimson flames began to appear around his body as he tried to reproduce the Crimson Shell. However, that was impossible just as before because he needed to adapt all of his abilities to the rules of that world. Even though both worlds used magic as their source of energy, there were fundamental differences between the two systems.

'It's as if the magic from my original world can be used here in exactly the same way.'

He could still reproduce most of his techniques, especially the more basic ones. However, there was one crucial difference: magic circles. In his original world, they were indispensable both for casting the most powerful spells from Circle One onward and for amplifying the user's power. In this world, however, magic circles simply did not exist. Everything functioned in a completely different way. Mages were born with their affinities, and as they developed their abilities, they naturally learned to create and refine their own magic.

While in this world controlling mana was as natural as breathing, in his original world magic followed much stricter rules. It was necessary to deeply understand the concept of one's own element. The greater that understanding, the greater the ability to manipulate it. Furthermore, there was the magic circle revolving around the heart, exactly as he had explained before, responsible for amplifying the user's power and allowing them to reach much higher levels.

'At Circle Zero, we're already able to draw out the magic that exists within the heart, but as the circles increase, that process becomes easier and easier, to the point of surpassing this world in the ability to manipulate magic naturally.'

It was actually interesting for him to think about. Comparing the two worlds, Enrico's world was far superior in terms of power, while Leon's world was much more natural from birth. However, at the same time, it was also weaker, being surpassed even in what was considered its greatest advantage.

'A simple comparison is that a child from this world may start out better than a child from Enrico's world, but as they both grow, the gap widens and the child from this world ends up falling behind.'

Pressing his feet against the ground, Leon reproduced his Charged Burst and shot forward at incredible speed. In a single instant, he was already outside the city. The moment the tips of his feet touched the ground, he activated Charged Burst once again and returned to the mansion the same way. The small flames surrounding his body had dispersed the exact moment he used the technique, so the attempt to reproduce the Crimson Shell had failed.

'It's obvious that when I'm in Enrico's body, this technique is much more refined. In this body, I have to force it a little more, even though it's faster.'

[That's because Leon's body is still stronger. Not to mention that, in terms of overall power, there's a difference of at least one Circle between the two of you. But once you reach that same level with Enrico's body, there won't even be any comparison.]

'You're right...'

Once again, Leon sat down on the grass and tried to reproduce his Crimson Shell. Besides everything he had realized about this world, he had also discovered something quite interesting. Some abilities from Enrico's world were simply impossible to use in another world. One of the greatest examples was the Akirama family's unique ability. The moment he arrived in this world and took over Leon's body, his connection with Yumeha and Rina was completely severed.

'And it's not just because I'm in another world or dimension. Even when I travel to another dimension using Enrico's body, I can still feel my connection with them.'

He was certain of that because the three of them had already been separated when he was in the elves' dimension. Without a doubt, that happened because he had taken on another body. However, thanks to the understanding he had gained about both worlds, he reached the true conclusion: the Akirama family's unique ability depended on magic circles to establish a connection with another person's Ketsumei.

'I thought this ability could even work on people who possessed a different type of energy... but that's impossible.'

As he had discovered in this world, the ability depended on the magic circle. It was through it that the ritual created a spiritual bond between the user and the other person's Ketsumei. Because of that, it would be practically impossible to use it on someone whose energy was different. Even in another world where the source of energy was also magic, like this one, the connection still could not be established.

'The ritual can even be performed, but the bond will never be formed.'

That was an extremely interesting discovery because not even the members of the Akirama family themselves should know that. In the end, it made sense. They had been born in a world where every living being possessed a magic circle.

'But I can say that even someone at Circle Zero, who still doesn't have a fully formed magic circle, might have a small chance of establishing the connection, because the magical heart already served as the foundation of the first circle, even though it wasn't actually one yet.'

Opening his eyes, Leon noticed that his body was surrounded by a thin crimson aura. A completely imperfect Crimson Shell without any armor. That was the most difficult technique to reproduce because, in his original world, its true potential depended directly on the magic circle, as it evolved with every circle.

'I managed to create an aura... but this is my limit in this body.'

[Well, at least you've become stronger. So all this training wasn't in vain.]

Leon lay down on the grass and began looking up at the sky. Only then did he realize that the sun had already risen. A small smile appeared on his face when he noticed that he hadn't even realized how much time had passed.

'Discovering new things about the magic and techniques I thought I understood completely... is fun.'

[I admit it... it was a little interesting.]

With a sigh, he continued training for a while longer before returning to Rebecca's room. It had been a long time since he had felt so motivated, and he intended to use all of that motivation when the time came to eliminate the Valtor family.
