Seraphina's POV

The stench hit me first.

Decay. Blood magic gone rancid. Death.

"Stay close," I warned, my voice echoing off damp stone walls. The prison corridors twisted deeper underground, each step taking us further into darkness.

Behind me, Silas gagged. The young wizard doubled over, vomiting onto the filthy floor.

"I told you to wait outside," I said, not bothering to hide my irritation.

"I'm fine," he insisted, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. His face was deathly pale in the dim magical light I'd conjured.

Liam looked no better. The wolf shifter kept glancing over his shoulder, his entire body rigid with tension.

"What is this place?" he whispered.

"A sanguimancer's playground," I answered flatly. "Blood magic experiments. Illegal even by shifter standards."

Jax's face hardened. "You're saying Kael allowed this?"

"Not knowingly." I moved forward, my senses alert for any danger. "He shut it down when I brought it to his attention."
