Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Trial by Flame

At thirteen, Andrew faced his rite of passage—the Trial by Flame. Before the entire Red Temple, he walked barefoot across burning coals, stood bare-chested in a pit of fire, and drank wine boiled by his own blood.

He neither screamed nor wept. When it was over, the flames around him bowed. Baelor named him Favored of Flame, a title not granted in over three hundred years.

But behind the chants and praises, the other priests whispered. Not in envy—but in dread. They remembered the last man who bore that title: Aerion Brightflame.
