Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Contagion

Jonathan began to change. He heard footsteps behind him in empty halls. Shadows moved where light should fall. Patients in Ward 6 began tracking him with their eyes.

Margaret smiled faintly for the first time. "It lives in frequencies," she whispered. "If you hear it, it knows you."

Alex pressed his hands to his ears. "Stop listening! STOP LISTENING!"

Jonathan tried to quit. He packed. But the elevator bypassed the ground floor and took him to the basement. It hadn't worked in years.

The lights flickered. The shape from his dreams slithered into view—hundreds of mouths along a body of wires and bone.

"You recorded me," it said.
