Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Chi Wanqing

"Captain, why did the bomb only explode once? What about those gunshots just now—could it be our people arriving?""I don't know what's going on. I'll go check it out. Don't move. Wanqing, are you alright?""Yeah, I'm fine. Give me a grenade." Wanqing, the woman who had been shot in the leg, spoke with a pale face.

The other two understood her meaning—the bullets were running low, and if they couldn't hold out, she intended to take her own life.

"Captain Lu, are you guys okay?" Guo Qi rushed in, shouting loudly."It looks like Guo brother is here. Yes, it's Guo brother! Could it be our people have arrived and wiped out those southern devils?" The young man holding a submachine gun shouted.

"Fang Wei, you're right, it's Guo Qi. How did he get here? That's impossible." The woman called Captain Lu shook her head halfway through her sentence."What's the situation, Guo Qi?" Captain Lu asked immediately when she saw him arrive at the cave entrance.

Guo Qi saw the three people standing at the cave mouth, including the injured Chi Wanqing leaning against the rock wall, and breathed a sigh of relief. "I brought reinforcements and wiped out all the southern devils surrounding the outside. Are you all okay?""We're fine, except Wanqing's thigh was shot. She's injured. By the way, which unit came to rescue us?" Captain Lu looked at Guo Qi with suspicion. She thought: what unit would come here at this time? Even if it's a rescue, it couldn't have been so fast. Could it be Wolf Howl's people?

"No, it wasn't. I met a friend just recently in the jungle. He saved me and helped kill more than twenty southern devils outside." Guo Qi caught his breath and quickly explained."What? You're saying one person wiped out more than twenty special forces soldiers, and he's someone you just met? Guo Qi, are you sure you're not lying?" Captain Lu exclaimed in surprise.

Chi Wanqing and Fang Wei also looked at Guo Qi with doubt. If they hadn't known him so well, they might have suspected him of betrayal.

Guo Qi hurriedly said, "Captain Lu, I swear it's true. But that friend was using a sneak attack, not a frontal assault. He took out more than twenty enemies one by one during the ambush. I was right behind him and saw everything clearly—no mistakes. It was only at the very end that they noticed him and fired a few shots."

Fang Wei suddenly understood. "I heard those last few gunshots from the southern devils; now it makes sense.""It was a successful sneak attack. That kind of ability definitely belongs to a strong person. Let's go, Guo Qi, take me to meet this friend. Wanqing, I'll carry you." Captain Lu said to the injured woman behind her, then hoisted her up without waiting for a response.

"Wanqing's got a gunshot wound, but my friend can heal that in minutes. Look, this wound on my waist was shot just this morning. It's already scabbed over—only a few hours. He's really amazing. When I met him during my escape, you won't believe what he was doing," Guo Qi rattled off excitedly.

"That amazing, it really scabbed over?" Fang Wei looked at the wound on Guo Qi's waist and exclaimed. Then he asked again, "By the way, what was he doing when you met him?"

Guo Qi smiled. "He was leisurely roasting rabbit meat and even gave me half. He's the most formidable senior I've ever met.""A master like that? I definitely want to meet him and become his disciple. A senior master, he must be older, right? Oh, if only Liu Cheng and Yu Nan were still here." Fang Wei's expression darkened.

Mentioning Liu Cheng and Yu Nan, the group fell silent, and the atmosphere turned heavy.

"Wow, what a pile." As they stepped out of the valley, they saw the twenty-four bodies killed by Ye Mo, all stacked together—but Ye Mo was nowhere to be seen.

"To have killed so many… this is insanely impressive. I must become his disciple." Fang Wei shouted again, stunned.

"Enough with the disciple talk. Brother Ye is a recluse master. Do you really think he'd take you in? Brother Ye, Brother Ye." Guo Qi called out playfully.

"Since everyone's out, let's go. I have things to do, so I won't keep you." Ye Mo appeared suddenly from somewhere, smiling faintly.

Guo Qi was stunned for a moment before saying, "Brother Ye, you're leaving? Let me introduce you. This is our Falcon Team captain, Lu Lin. The woman on her back is my teammate, Chi Wanqing. This is Fang Wei—he really admires you. Captain, this is the Ye Mo I told you about who helped us."

"Hello, Ye Mo. I'm Lu Lin. Thank you so much for your help. I didn't expect you to be so young—I thought you'd be at least in your thirties or forties." Lu Lin quickly extended her hand for a shake, her eyes full of gratitude.

"Brother Ye, you're incredible and so young! I'm Fang Wei. Please accept me as your disciple." Fang Wei's eyes sparkled with admiration as he said.

Ye Mo waved his hand. "I only succeeded through a sneak attack. I'm still an amateur myself, no way I'd take disciples. Let's not talk about that."

Chi Wanqing looked at Ye Mo, her eyes brightening. She had joined the military partly because of family reasons and her admiration for soldiers' toughness. Her grandfather and father were soldiers, but her father had no sons, only her. Later, she had a falling out with her father and left home. She idolized Hua Mulan and joined the army.

If Ye Mo was really as powerful as Guo Qi said, he was exactly the kind of person she wanted to emulate. She was usually cold toward people—partly because her beauty attracted too much attention in the military, and partly because she hadn't found anyone truly worthy of admiration. Though their instructors were skilled, none could single-handedly eliminate more than twenty enemies, even by ambush. Her coldness mostly stemmed from family reasons.

The only person she respected was Xu Shi, who taught them briefly but was very powerful. He left after a few days. Ye Mo seemed different from Xu Shi somehow, but she couldn't say exactly how—it was just a feeling.

"Brother Ye, this is my teammate Chi Wanqing. She's got a gunshot wound in her leg. Can you help treat it?" Guo Qi looked at Ye Mo urgently.

Ye Mo looked at the woman on Lu Lin's back. She was barely over twenty, with short hair but delicate features. Her pale complexion was probably from blood loss. Ye Mo shook his head silently, thinking that a girl like this should be stitching embroidery at home, not out here in a primitive border jungle.
