"Shinobi of Konoha, are you seriously going to make an enemy of the Land of Wind?"
At the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind, a Sunagakure jōnin stared at the three people before him, shouting hoarsely.
"Since you chose to be a spy, you should've been prepared to die," Renya said coldly, his voice devoid of any emotion.
Any enemy who posed a threat had to be eliminated completely.
It wasn't like he was some bleeding-heart saint...
"This is no longer Fire Country territory. Are you really going to lay a hand on me?" the Sunagakure jōnin growled through clenched teeth.
He was just plain unlucky—he hadn't even infiltrated Konoha yet and was already discovered.
He had assumed that with just three opponents, it would be an easy win.
Only after the fight began did he realize the boy leading them was a jōnin, while the other two were special jōnin.
How was he supposed to win against that?
Without saying another word, the Sunagakure jōnin turned and fled, but all three chased after him.
The chase lasted a whole day, and in the end, the Sunagakure jōnin was caught.
Which led to the scene unfolding now.
"Bastards, don't think I'm afraid of you!"
Seeing that begging for mercy was useless, the Sunagakure jōnin suddenly launched an attack at Renya.
In an instant, the air twisted into a massive vortex, as solid as a tangible force, sweeping up debris and hurling it toward Renya and the others.
Shimura Danzō and Koharu Utatane immediately dodged to either side.
The Sunagakure jōnin's strategy was simple—if he could wound or kill the leader with a surprise move, the other two wouldn't be a problem.
After three years of life-or-death battle, under countless deadly situations, Renya's eyes had already evolved into three-tomoe Sharingan.
Renya swiftly retreated. His three-tomoe Sharingan spun rapidly, the crimson pupils reflecting the oncoming Wind Style technique.
He drew the blade strapped to his back—Immaculate—in a smooth motion, the blade gleaming coldly and slicing through the sunlight like a silver crescent moon.
"Water Style: Water Formation Wall!" Renya performed a Water Style technique in defense.
Though he wasn't particularly skilled in Water Style, after being raised by Senju Tobirama for so many years, he'd learned a few techniques...
Steam and sand exploded in the air, forming a dense white mist.
The Sunagakure jōnin seized the chance to close in. A pale blue wind blade condensed in his palm.
"Wind Style: Vacuum Blade!"
Several invisible blades tore through the mist, slashing straight toward Renya's throat.
A direct hit would mean certain death!
Renya's Sharingan accurately tracked the attack's trajectory. He rapidly retreated as his katana traced elegant arcs in the air, slicing every wind blade apart.
Using the momentum of his blade, Renya instantly closed the gap, the sword edge aimed directly at the Sunagakure jōnin's neck.
The man's pupils contracted. He hastily formed hand seals, summoning a Wind Style barrier in front of him.
But Renya's strike suddenly changed trajectory. The blade skimmed the edge of the wind barrier, cutting deep into the jōnin's arm, slicing to the bone.
"Got him," Renya said with a faint smile, deactivating his Sharingan.
The Sunagakure jōnin cried out in pain and leapt back.
A roaring wind dragon charged forward with gnashing fangs, filling the air with blinding sand and dust.
Renya didn't bother to counter it and simply dodged with a body flicker.
By the time the dust cleared, the Sunagakure jōnin had vanished.
...
"Renya-kun, are you alright?" Koharu Utatane asked with concern.
Renya shook his head and said, "I'm fine."
Though his opponent was a jōnin, jōnin strength varied. As long as he didn't let his guard down, there was little chance of losing.
Shimura Danzō frowned and snapped,
"Renya, how could you let him escape?"
Renya walked over to a pool of blood on the ground and said softly,
"He won't get far."
Danzō followed his gaze and his mouth twitched.
The blood on the ground was black.
There was no need to ask—Renya had coated his blade in poison...
Danzō looked at Renya's back and couldn't help but shiver.
He didn't know when it had happened, but Uchiha Renya's combat style had changed—into something so ruthless that even Danzō found it filthy.
The three followed the trail of blood.
Soon, they found the Sunagakure jōnin's corpse lying not far ahead.
The man's body was stiff, his face pitch black—he had clearly been dead for some time.
Renya stared at the body and murmured,
"Looks like the potency of the poison still needs work..."
In his eyes, the toxin he'd developed was still too weak.
If it had been stronger, the jōnin wouldn't have made it this far before dying.
Hearing this, Danzō and Koharu instinctively took a step away from Renya.
They were starting to realize—Renya was becoming more and more... sinister.
Under their wary gazes, Renya lifted his sword and brought it down, cleanly severing the Sunagakure jōnin's head, then casually tossed it to Danzō.
"Take it back to the Yamanaka clan. See if they can extract any useful intel."
Shimura Danzō stared at the bloody head in his hands and fell into silence.
The Uchiha really are all crazy!
...
Konoha Village, Hokage Office.
"Why did you kill him?" Senju Tobirama stared at the severed head on his desk, his eyelid twitching.
He had clearly ordered them to expel the spy from Fire Country—he never intended for them to kill him.
After all, it wasn't wartime, and some things just couldn't be done too harshly.
Hearing this, Danzō and Koharu lowered their heads and dared not speak.
"He was just too weak—I accidentally killed him," Renya said with a shrug.
He never held back in battle. One mistake could cost him his life—he had no plans to take that risk.
Senju Tobirama's mouth twitched. He didn't believe a single word.
Looking at Renya's indifferent expression, Tobirama rubbed his temples with a sigh and said,
"Forget it. What's done is done."
After all, it was the Land of Wind who was at fault to begin with. He couldn't really blame Renya for this.
Besides, the Land of Wind wasn't about to start a war over a single jōnin.
And even if they did, Senju Tobirama wasn't afraid!
"Hey, old man, are you coming home for dinner tonight?" Renya suddenly asked.
It had been a long time since he'd had a meal with the old guy.
Tobirama glanced at the pile of paperwork on his desk and sighed.
"No, you go ahead and eat."
Ever since he'd become acting Hokage, he realized just how much work there was. No wonder his big brother was so eager to retire.
He didn't even have time to develop new jutsu anymore.
"Alright then, I'll cook and bring it over later," Renya said, then left the office with the other two.
Senju Tobirama watched Renya's back, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.
"That brat really didn't let me down..."
After all these years of observation, he could see that Renya's personality hadn't changed much after awakening his Sharingan.
He just spoke less than before.
At first, Tobirama had worried that awakening the three-tomoe would twist Renya's character—but thankfully, his concern was unnecessary.
Thinking of this, he pulled out the [Uchiha Observation Manual] from his drawer and wrote a line in it:
"This path seems to be working."
...
Senju Tobirama's Residence.
After returning home, Renya started preparing dinner.
Over the past few years, he'd known time was short, so he had pushed himself desperately to become stronger.
But now that he was strong, he wasn't in such a rush anymore.
"Guess it's time to rest for a while."
Three years of relentless killing had left Renya numb and weary.
Every day it was either killing or traveling to kill. Anyone would be worn out by that.
"Three years... Do you have any idea what I've been through in these three years?"
