Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Sudden Wealth

Li Biao brought over a lot of jewelry, after all, in this battle, Ye Fan and his team killed more than eight hundred zombies.

There were very few elderly or children here, and among the zombies, there were nearly four hundred females.

Being beside the highway, many who could drive here were wealthy people, and their jewelry wasn't shabby.

A heavy package, felt like two or three kilograms.

As soon as the jewelry was in hand, Nana immediately issued a prompt, asking if it should be converted into money.

"Convert it all."

"Sir, conversion complete."

Ye Fan glanced at his money count and was astonished to see it reach an impressive 3120!

The jewelry from this large group of zombies was worth over two thousand gold!

"Great, more than half of the cost for building a radar is covered, just another 1900 gold and it can be produced."

After completing this task, he noticed the survivors still watching him, both fearful and hopeful.

He didn't immediately address the survivors but instead said to the Red Alert Soldier, "Search every restaurant here immediately, bring back whatever you find, and eliminate any remaining living beings!"

"Understood, mission guaranteed to be completed!"

The conscripts scattered in all directions, continuing their search for treasures for Ye Fan.

He learned from Su Chang that when the disaster broke out, all the survivors of the small fishing village ran out, except for about twenty people on the second floor here; there were no other survivors.

The so-called survivors were nothing more than zombies.

The surrounding survivors were frozen with fear, each looking at Ye Fan with eyes full of terror.

Ye Fan turned his face coldly, carrying the smoking 23 pistol, and walked in front of the survivors.

Beside him were Luo Fei and Xiaotian, Luo Fei's expression was so grim it seemed pieces could fall off.

Xiaotian stretched its tongue out, looking even more terrifying.

Glancing over the survivors, none dared to make eye contact with Ye Fan.

Ye Fan's final gaze landed on Su Chang and her sister.

"Not bad looking!"

Su Chang was momentarily stunned, then slowly lowered her head.

Ye Fan pointed with his gun: "Pack your things, get in the car, and wait for me, don't think about escaping, or you'll end up like those zombies!"

At this moment, gunshots sounded from some nearby buildings, clearly from soldiers dealing with residual zombies.

Su Chang shuddered, looking around pitifully at the other survivors, but they all turned their heads, avoiding looking at the sisters.

Su Chang immediately covered her face and ran home, with her sister following to pack their belongings.

Ye Fan gave a cold smile, then turned back to the other survivors.

"You all must really not want to stay here, right.....?"

A middle-aged man smiled: "Officer, this place is far from the hustle and bustle, the scenery is nice, this is my dream pastoral life, I'm too old to run around."

"Yeah, no one comes here now, we could start farming ourselves."

"Exactly, I even know how to raise chickens, I've seen eggs here, but the hen's a bit of a problem."

"No worries, I have skills, we'll make an incubator ourselves."

"Oh, how wonderful, I can't wait to start a new life..."

Ye Fan glanced around, snorted disappointedly, "Not a single decent one, let's go."

Turning around with the soldiers and Xiaotian, he returned to the spot in front of the Sisters' Fish Shop to wait.

After a while, Su Chang quickly returned to Ye Fan with her sister.

Seeing the survivors far away, Su Chang let out a sigh of relief, winked at Ye Fan: "Brother Ye."

"Hmm, you're very smart."

"Hehe, not too bad, Brother Ye, this is my sister Su Xing."

The slightly older girl gratefully said to Ye Fan: "Brother Ye, we really can't thank you enough, you saved our lives."

"It's nothing, I also accepted what Su Chang gave me; you owe me nothing."

"It's different, without our lives, what use is stuff? I really don't know how to thank you."

Su Chang was also full of gratitude and admiration: "Brother Ye, you looked so cool killing zombies earlier, were you lying to me before? You must be a soldier, otherwise, you wouldn't have such good shooting skills."

Ye Fan was often mistaken for a soldier, and he was somewhat tired of explaining.

After all, no matter how you explain it, it's hard to make sense of it; military uniforms have subtle differences, but the origin of this weapon is hard to explain.

He didn't bother to explain much about this matter; he had his own plans for calling the sisters over.

He knew the two sisters were very capable; when the restaurant first started, they were the ones cooking. Ye Fan wanted to take them along to become the cooks for his group.

That way, before becoming the logistical support squad for the company, he wouldn't have to shoulder the responsibility of cooking anymore.

"Do you have any other family?"

"Not really, my parents passed away early, and I raised my sister. We didn't go to school much due to financial difficulties. Originally, we planned to continue studying once conditions improved. But now, it seems unnecessary."

Awakening felt a bit sad. After all the hard work to earn money, the apocalypse came. In a lawless society, the two sisters didn't know where their future lay.

Hoping to study again was a luxury; just staying alive was already a blessing.

Ye Fan coughed lightly, "Here's the thing, I plan to find my comrades. They are waiting for me in many places. With so many people moving, food is a problem. I'm short of someone to cook, so if you're willing, you can come with me."

The Su Family Sisters exchanged a glance, whispered a few words, and promptly gave Ye Fan an answer.

"We are willing. After all, we don't have anywhere else to go. Staying here isn't safe."

Awakening deeply understood this; many conflicts occurred where those survivors were gathered.

They stayed in that restaurant for days. Food was scarce, and everyone was panicking under the shadow of potentially imminent death.

People were on the verge of breaking down in such an environment. During this time, Awakening had witnessed a lot of human ugliness. If Ye Fan's people hadn't come, who knows what might have happened there.

She didn't want to stay there at all, even though it was her home.

Finally solving the cook problem, Ye Fan also breathed a sigh of relief.

Before long, his subordinates returned. They had cleared out the restaurant in the small fishing village and collected 1100 gold for Ye Fan.

The amount of money Ye Fan had increased again, now reaching 4200.

This trip to the small fishing village was considered successful.

He ordered the soldiers to start fires and burn all those zombies to ashes.

With the task done, Ye Fan immediately called them into the car.

Wang Hu was still the driver, with Li Biao as the co-pilot. Ye Fan was in the second row, and the Su Family Sisters, naturally, couldn't be squeezed onto the back bench with the soldiers, so they sat with Ye Fan in the second row.

The rear six-person seat now held seven conscripts plus a big dog.

Xu Haoran and Luo Fei continued driving the mining truck, leading the way.

As they passed by the survivors, those survivors were still waving at him, "Goodbye, Officer!"

Ye Fan snorted, and the car rumbled forward, but it didn't drive too far before stopping next to the gas station by the small fishing village.

The Tiger used gasoline, and the mining truck ran on diesel. In the apocalypse, fuel was absolutely a very precious commodity.

A few soldiers got out to sweep around, finding no zombies.

They picked up the fueling guns to refuel and discovered there was still a lot of fuel here.

Perhaps since the start of the apocalypse, no one had passed by here, and the fuel remained.

There was fuel, but without a tanker, Ye Fan couldn't take away too much.

Luckily, they found dozens of barrels inside the gas station, and he filled all of them with fuel.

Ten barrels of gasoline, thirty barrels of diesel, plus completely filled tanks of both vehicles, were the things Ye Fan could take away.

These barrels were also loaded onto the mining truck's cargo bed, which was not used for minerals but for loading supplies.

However, after loading the fuel, Ye Fan dared not, as at the start of their escape, directly drive the Tiger into the cargo bay.

If an explosion occurred, that would be a massive problem.

The vehicle finally left the small fishing village, heading towards the direction of Ye Fan's hometown, Coal City.

They traveled over three hundred kilometers before stopping to rest once, with the Su Family Sisters volunteering to take on the cooking task.

The mining truck's cargo hold had all sorts of foods, along with seasonings and utensils.

The sisters worked for about forty minutes, and a large pot of food was freshly prepared.

Refreshing cold dishes, delicious braised meat, paired with some fresh stir-fries allowed the Red Alert soldiers to have a satisfying meal.

Ye Fan increasingly felt he had made the right decision. Even if later his team had a logistical support squad, the things those burly men came up with couldn't be as tasty as what these two sisters with long-term restaurant experience created.

With energy replenished, the vehicle moved forward again.

The mining truck's speed wasn't fast, and they had spent too much time clearing zombies during the day, so that night, they had to rest at the roadside.

Thankfully, with the Red Alert soldiers on duty, there was no need to worry about safety, and the group slept well, fully dressed.

By early morning the next day, after another delicious breakfast, the vehicle continued on non-stop.

By ten o'clock in the morning, Ye Fan's hometown, Coal City, was already in sight in the distance.
