Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Wolf-Slaying Blade, Upgrade, Gray Realm

After trying on the fine layer wolfhide armor and looking at its description on the panel, Wang Zhifan quickly stored it back into his personal space.

In the real world's current hot season, he feels hot even wearing just a single shirt, let alone a full set of armor.

He stood up and turned on the small electric fan placed on a chair beside the bed to cool himself down a bit, then took out his other two dungeon rewards.

First was the Wolf-Slaying Blade he had chosen first, as its name suggests, a rare sword weapon, just right for him as a swordsman player.

[Wolf-Slaying Blade (Rare)]

[Armor Penetration: Penetrates 40% of target's physical defense when attacking.]

[Wolf-Slaying: While attacking wolf-type enemies at level 5 or below, there's an 80% chance to trigger an instant kill effect.]

[This sword is a rare treasure among long horizontal swords, not only is the blade extremely sharp and tough beyond comparison, but it also has terrifying lethality against wolves, hence the name Wolf-Slaying Blade.]

"It's actually a weapon specialized for wolf enemies; no wonder it's named that... but its armor penetration effect also looks quite good, and the sword itself looks very stylish."

The rare long horizontal sword currently in Wang Zhifan's hand resembles the style of a katana, with a silver-white sheen along its narrow, slightly curved blade, while the sheath and hilt have a steady black-gray color scheme. The entire length is slightly over a meter, much longer than his already discarded ordinary short sword.

Standing up, Wang Zhifan fully drew the Wolf-Slaying Blade and swung it casually in the air, creating a slight whistling sound, then sheathed it and stored it back into his personal space.

At this moment, he held in his hand an unassuming pale yellow scroll, which was of significant value as a fine layer Warrior Skill Upgrade Scroll.

[Warrior Skill Upgrade Scroll (Fine)]

[Tearing this scroll can upgrade any warrior-class player's skill level to Lv3, with a 10% chance to upgrade an already Lv3 skill to Lv4.]

No reason to hesitate, Wang Zhifan, after reading the scroll's description, tore it open to use it on the spot.

As he performed this action, the torn pale yellow scroll rapidly vanished, while a stream of indescribable information began to pour into his mind, making him suddenly understand a multitude of simple yet practical sword techniques, while simultaneously feeling a tingly transformation in his hands, wrists, arms, waist, and legs, as if these areas had been precisely refined alongside his skill upgrade.

Quickly, Wang Zhifan opened his player panel to find that his sole warrior-class skill, Sword Skill Lv1, had upgraded.

[Name: Wang Zhifan.]

[Status: Normal.]

[Level: Lv1.]

[Experience: 36/100.]

[Occupation: Swordsman.]

[Constitution: 11.]

[Strength: 12.]

[Agility: 12.]

[Spirit: 11.]

[Skills: Basic Sword Skill Lv3.]

[Equipped: None.]

[Personal Space: Wolf-Slaying Blade (Rare), Short Sword (Ordinary) (Damaged), Wolfhide Armor (Fine), Fabric Armor (Ordinary) (Damaged).]

This massive leap in skill was clearly evident to him personally, even if he hadn't engaged in any real combat. The various sword techniques engraved in his mind, coupled with the proficient feeling as if he'd been practicing swordsmanship for ten years, convinced him that his sword skill level was significantly elevated.

After again wielding his Wolf-Slaying Blade in the air for a while, Wang Zhifan compared the current excellent feel of his swordsmanship with the previous slight awkwardness and clumsiness, becoming increasingly certain of his progress.

"If my sword skill was just at a novice level when it was Lv1, now at Lv3 I could be considered an adept swordsman... I could practically rely on my swordsmanship advantage to take down three of my former selves... The speed of skill advancement as a player is quite remarkable."

Having processed the dungeon gains, Wang Zhifan felt a bit hungry, so he took out his phone to order some food delivery to satisfy his hunger.

Based on the original owner's memory, the world he was in now was quite similar to the one before he transmigrated, both being modern civilized societies, except the country he's in now is called Xia Country, not Celestial Empire.

Ding ding ding~

Just as Wang Zhifan started searching for this world's food delivery apps on his phone and intended to check his financial situation, a call came through, showing the caller ID as "Qiang" on his phone screen.

With a slight frown, Wang Zhifan quickly recollected the memories he'd integrated from the original owner, soon recognizing that this Qiang was likely the source from whom the original owner bought the Player Professional Card. However, he clearly remembered that the original owner had completed the transaction. Why was this Qiang calling now?

"Mr. Wang, I just wanted to ask, did you finish your first dungeon?"

Upon answering the call, Wang Zhifan heard a deep middle-aged male voice coming from the phone's speaker.

"Just finished, Qiang, do you need something?"

Wang Zhifan didn't lie, responding directly; after all, being a player wasn't that rare in this world, especially as a novice player, and in a lamentable melee class, no one would particularly pay attention.

"Oh! I don't have anything special in mind, but I've got a job on hand that seems suitable for honing the skills of a novice player like you. Would you be willing to give it a try?"

The unexpected words from the phone left Wang Zhifan a bit at a loss.

"Qiang, I'm just a Lv1 novice; I nearly died teaming up with others for the first dungeon, how can I handle any tasks..."

Wang Zhifan felt somewhat speechless, thinking it's too obvious Qiang was planning to let him be cannon fodder, knowing he was merely a greenhorn yet still inviting him for some task.

"Haha, don't misunderstand, Mr. Wang. I've been asked by the officials to help recruit some player talents to join a special combat group.

This group is specifically formed to clear those low-level Gray Realm monsters. You know about the Gray Realm, right? It's the kind invading our real world, which only players can clean up.

Both in Xia Country and overseas, the occurrence of these pesky things is increasing, and the elite player forces cultivated by the officials are overwhelmed.

If you're interested, I can give you a contact, ensuring the pay for working there is much higher than regular jobs, and performing well might even grant fine layer equipment as a reward from the officials..."

After saying much, Qiang made it known to Wang Zhifan that he was, in fact, commissioned by the Xia Country officials to recruit people to handle the increasingly rampant Gray Realm invasion.
