Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Knocked Away with One Strike

During the cultivation class, how much content Ling Feng learned from Xu Zhiyuan wasn't his goal; the only thing he cared about was how to avoid being too serious in this class and thus violating the Coast Along rules, making himself unable to gain Coasting Along Value.

So as soon as he threw away the long spear, Ling Feng felt truly freed, both inside and out; he let out a deep breath, like coming back from the edge of extreme danger.

It was almost like being reborn, lying on the ground in utter comfort, an involuntary smile sneaking onto his lips.

In his past life, with the 996 grind, for his family and for himself, he was always rushing ahead, never missing any opportunity, constantly afraid that even the slightest misstep would bring a scolding from the boss.

But in this life—

Even though resources are scarce, the environment is harsh, Alien Race invaders, extraterrestrial creatures, high radiation pollutants and more, all like a Life-taking Talisman, forcing humanity to keep evolving, keep surpassing themselves.

People have to face both survival pressure and all kinds of challenges.

But ever since getting the Coasting Along Fate, Ling Feng found that life might be tough, but his mind and body were liberated. He'd never felt so much hardship, nor so much ease.

These ten minutes.

Ling Feng fell asleep.

...

Ten minutes later.

Xu Zhiyuan's figure vanished. He stood in the student training room of Inner Ring City, watching the gradually fading light screen, and could vaguely see in a corner inside it, a figure lying on the ground, sound asleep.

The spear shaft in his hand was squeezed so hard it dented.

In Ninth Middle School's training room.

The classmates stared at each other, glancing at Ling Feng snoozing in the corner; everyone was feeling a bit disgusted.

"Ling Feng!"

"Teacher Yang spent a huge price to invite Teacher Xu to teach us Spear Technique, and you're lying on the ground? Are you looking down on Teacher Xu or just not taking Teacher Yang seriously?"

Lai Zhijun shouted angrily.

He saw Yang Liru's dark face, and couldn't help but stand up for her.

"Is it over? Can I go back?"

Ling Feng crawled up from the ground, rubbing his eyes as he spoke.

Yang Liru clenched her fists, unable to control herself, eyes shut tight.

"Teacher Yang, since Ling Feng is so casual and slack, he must've reached a pretty high Realm in Spear Technique. I'd like to represent the class and spar a few moves with Ling Feng."

Lai Zhijun requested.

"Sure."

Yang Liru responded without hesitation.

Someone like Ling Feng wouldn't learn his lesson without a bit of punishment, and besides, his behavior was getting more and more out of line.

"Ling, please enlighten me!"

Lai Zhijun immediately tossed a long spear to Ling Feng, then demonstrated his Spear Technique, following up with one move: Cyan Dragon Emerges from Water Linked Spear, launching it straight at Ling Feng.

"Lai,"

At first Ling Feng was a little confused, but as his Combat Power grew, and with his All-weather Breathing and Exhaling Ability, Ling Feng's Combat Power kept increasing, even when he was asleep.

In an instant, he reacted, reaching out to catch the long spear, then using the same move—Cyan Dragon Emerges from Water Linked Spear—to quickly wrap up Lai Zhijun's spear.

Then a gentle flick—

Lai Zhijun's spear flew out of his hands, shot to the corner of the classroom, nearly hitting a student.

Lai Zhijun was stunned like lightning struck, while the classmates all looked dumbfounded.

Yang Liru, who was waiting to see Ling Feng wailing, couldn't help but hold her breath.

With an extra two hundred kilos of arm strength from leveling up, those two hundred kilos became a mountain Lai Zhijun couldn't climb.

Besides, his Combat Power wasn't as high as Ling Feng's to begin with.

One at 9.2 plus, the other at 9.5 plus.

And on Spear Technique, Ling Feng held the advantage in Skills.

So when their long spears clashed—

Ling Feng not only suppressed Lai Zhijun's spear with the same move, but casually flicked it away; under those two hundred kilos of force, Lai Zhijun's spear soared across the room.

Ling Feng's own spear went on to block Lai Zhijun's throat.

"Uh..."

No one saw that coming, so the room was quiet for a long moment.

Yang Liru finally remembered—when Ling Feng practiced Spear Technique earlier, his skill level was above Lai Zhijun's. She just didn't expect one move to send Lai Zhijun's spear flying and land a strike at his throat.

So, Ling Feng's Combat Power was far above Lai Zhijun's.

And with two months to go before his eighteenth birthday, as long as he corrects his attitude and works hard at cultivation, not missing a single moment, there's every chance he'll become an entry-level Martial Artist before turning eighteen.

"Ling Feng actually won."

"And he did it with just one move."

"Maybe his usual slacking off in cultivation is just an act? Secretly training behind everyone's back?"

"Has to be! I see this in novels all the time—classic old fox behavior."

The classmates erupted, unable to control their whispering.

"Secret cultivation?"

Yang Liru was stunned, then thought of the same thing.

"Playing dumb while hiding his full ability?"

"Stupid?"

Even if he trains seriously in secret, he shouldn't be messing around at school—especially in a class with Xu Zhiyuan. Training Spear Technique with Xu Zhiyuan is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Outer Ring City students!

"Sorry, Lai, Teacher Yang, I'll leave now."

Ling Feng noticed he was already running late and hurriedly slipped away.

Coast Along means no involution, no hustling, no grinding, no anxiety, etc.

But it doesn't mean turning a blind eye to provocation or danger.

Lai Zhijun looked like he wanted to spar with Ling Feng, but in reality, he was trying to dish out some punishment and show off in class. Faced with an unavoidable challenge, Ling Feng naturally did his best to resolve it quickly, avoiding getting sucked into an even bigger mess.

But he didn't realize that by showing a bit of skill, he instantly became the "old fox."

Lai Zhijun watched as Ling Feng's figure quickly disappeared, couldn't help but pick up his long spear and mutter, "Who can't do secret cultivation? Just you wait."

Ling Feng headed straight to the cafeteria, collected his resource subsidy, and sat in a corner to enjoy it slowly.

Eating is a genuinely delightful thing.

According to the Life Chart requirements, anything that's instinctively enjoyable must be savored wholeheartedly, so eating is extremely important for Ling Feng.

Even if the resources were awful.

Even if it was just a single bowl of rice, he would carefully savor the texture of every grain and finish it devoutly.

When Ling Feng finished his resource subsidy meal, a few waves of students had already come and gone in the cafeteria.

He was about to hand his empty tray to the lunch lady.

He noticed Yang Liru staring at him.

"Teacher Yang."

Ling Feng felt uneasy.

"In tomorrow's Breathing Technique cultivation class, I'll teach a different way to awaken Qi Sensitivity. If you can awaken a Qi Sensitivity within two months, you can become an entry-level Martial Artist and avoid being cannon fodder at the frontlines. I hope tomorrow you'll get your attitude right, and don't miss this rare opportunity."

Yang Liru left after finishing.

She knew, no matter what Ling Feng was thinking, as long as he still had a will to survive, he'd understand just how important tomorrow's cultivation class really is.
