Gauss spent the following day in the small town without incident. No reckless fools came looking for trouble, nor did he get swept up in any special incidents.
"I'm leaving. Until we meet again," Gauss said.
Mayfield, the only person he knew in the town, had come out to see him off.
"Safe travels."
Mayfield had barely waved her hand before Gauss's figure vanished from the spot, melting into the air like sea foam.
Looking at the place where he had just stood, Mayfield sighed. Though they had known each other for only a short time, he had left a profound impression on her.
She wanted to become a powerful Professional just like him. Even though the possibility seemed next to nothing right now, if she never took the first step, that goal would forever remain a pipe dream. She wondered who he really was, and where he was heading next. She couldn't help but feel curious. Her knowledge of Gauss was limited to a mere name and his adventure group.
