Chapter 5 - Chapter 2: The Hidden Profession Must Be Kept Secret

...

Before the alarm could wake him, Chun heard Sherry's voice in his headset: "Are you there?"

Chun was surprised, realizing she left work early for his sake, cleverly planning to leave before Dancing Girl. Smart!

She took off her staff uniform and changed into a very ordinary outfit of a girl carrying an umbrella and a basket. It was the first time Chun saw her after work. Chun then realized he had overlooked a blind spot—their world after work. What would Dancing Girl look like after work?

Sherry comforted him: "Don't worry, I'm very familiar with Miss Vivian. She won't be rude to acquaintances."

Chun was relieved: "That's good!"

He also learned that she would hit people when there were no acquaintances! Her identity was definitely more than just a Dancing Girl; she might be a big sister in the underworld with prospects!

So Chun walked in the front, with Sherry following behind. In the bustling night market street crowded with millions of players like salmon swimming upstream, Chun's group was inconspicuous like a drop of water. However, the mindset he had suppressed since losing his job underwent a huge change, making him feel like he was about to stir the waves of the era…

As soon as they arrived at the back door of the tavern, the closing bell sounded.

Just then, a luxurious carriage drove into the back alley, and the scene changed. The silhouettes of street players became blurred and indistinct.

Chun was excited. This was entering the legendary independent scene plot mode! In this mode, only he and the relevant NPCs interact. Players outside couldn't see the changes here. One could imagine how high-end the hidden event of the Dancing Girl must be!

Sherry swiftly pulled Chun to stand against the wall: "It's Baron Bapeng's carriage, don't block the way."

Huh?

Vivian exited after work, dressed in a more glamorous dance dress. Her high heels were particularly dazzling.

The coachman got off and opened the door, greeting, "Miss Vivian, the Baron invites you!"

Dancing Girl bowed with a smile as radiant as a flower: "It's an honor for Vivian to be personally picked up by the Baron!"

Only then did Chun see a big fat man sitting in the carriage!

At that moment, Chun felt indescribably discomforted. Although he knew this was part of the Dancing Girl's character setting, fully accepting this wild setting was…

Chun panicked: "Miss Vivian, about my matter—"

Dancing Girl turned her head in surprise: "You? You all?!"

Sherry awkwardly waved her hand at her.

Dancing Girl chuckled: "I originally wanted to teach him a lesson, so he wouldn't get carried away, but it's such a rare festival, I'll let it go. I still have to attend the Baron's midnight crystal shoe ball—however, since he's here, why don't you go to the Baron's Mansion to assist as a temporary worker and see the world?"

—System Prompt: You triggered the event "Temporary Worker at the Baron's Mansion," do you agree?

Chun was stunned on the spot! Is this hidden event really about watching her being taken away by this heap of flesh for a festival? Would starting from being a temporary worker let him meet influential people at the party?

What to do?

Chun hurriedly looked at Sherry, who showed a helpless expression of a small store clerk, along with a sympathetic look.

Chun understood, they were both at the bottom level, no matter what event was triggered, it was limited. The real profit would actually come from this fat man. Without the fat man's say, the most Dancing Girl could offer was a temporary job, which wasn't what he wanted at all.

And as for Vivian, siding with an ugly fat man only proved that this type is a big fool verified by her. Since he's foolish, Chun could push the limits to force the fat man to speak up, while ensuring neither of them dismisses him—being looked down upon by opportunistic Vivian would have serious consequences.

Decisively decline! The hidden event must have variants.

Then, there was only one thing Chun could do—

Chun hastily told Sherry: "I want a duel for love, you cheer me on and create a momentum, the sound should be loud enough to startle the neighbors to watch. If the lord wins, just say he only defeated an unknown person, unable to prove his bravery. The lord should generously arrange a profitable job for me, letting me continue to challenge him with fame and power, proving his generosity and valor, creating an exciting reputation like a script, becoming the talk of the town...understood?"

Sherry was stunned for a moment: "A profitable job?"

Chun urgently said: "The more profitable, the better, so I can have more money to support your studies..."

No time to explain, he could only trust her wit, trust the tacit understanding between them.

Chun immediately rushed to block the departing carriage and shouted: "I won't let you toy with Miss Vivian, I challenge you to a duel!"

Sure enough, Sherry cooperatively shouted: "Go for it! Warrior fighting for love! Bloom as brilliantly as violets..."

Dancing Girl screamed in shock: "Bold, impudent!!"

Your voice is quite loud too?

The coachman waved the whip: "Offending a noble is a serious crime! Get lost! I could beat a thousand of your kind!"

Chun's vision exploded with red light—Warning! You are about to be attacked!

A serious crime? At this point, Chun had no choice but to audaciously follow through: "Whether you can fight is your concern, it doesn't change the fact that this lord is too cowardly to duel!"

Dancing Girl shouted: "The lord is not cowardly! The lord could send you flying with one slap..."

With her shout, the coachman put away the whip, and the red light disappeared.

All tacit understanding!

Just then, the back door of the tavern and the windows along the street opened, more NPCs appeared upon hearing the commotion. Chun was overjoyed! With them egging on bystanders, and himself being just a mining dud, he didn't believe the lord wouldn't step up and fight.

Sure enough, a snort came from the carriage: "I accept the duel!"
