John's words carried a tone of mockery.
He didn't like Jilead's current manner, but surprisingly, the other party didn't seem to notice.
Jilead even nodded in agreement, smiling as he spoke.
"Look, you label me, just like that gang of beasts in Indig does. They think people from the streets are simple, crude, easy to manipulate, and easy to understand..."
He got up, lit a cigar, and walked to the window.
A distorted, blurry reflection floated on the one-way glass.
"If I waited for you in the office, tomorrow someone would show up at your restaurant with a full set of documents, asking if you want to sign a company contract. But meeting here, they would just think I'm out enjoying with a woman and wanted my good buddy to have a good time too. No one would think twice."
Jilead was indeed connected with the company.
But his collaborators seemed to be sending people to monitor him, or rather, the company and the gang were different; by nature, there were no secrets to speak of.
