Kai, along with his cohort, walked across the red carpet of the Valor Ball as the room fell silent. All gazes turned to them.
It was silent enough to suffocate Kai. Lately, his cohort had been in trouble due to the Second Nightmare. From what he knew, it was pretty much resolved by Sunny and Cassie. This would be the final time. Apparently they were planning to talk with Morgan—the daughter of Anvil of Valor. One of the three Soverigns.
Soon, the hall bustled with different activities and conversations, while Kai avoided everyone's attention. He watched as people talked about politics, or recent about achievements, or just bragging about properties and stuff in general.
From the corner of his eye, he saw Sunny and Nephis dancing together, and then Sunny dragging Nephis somewhere. It was at that moment it happened.
A girl with black hair, vermillion eyes, and a red dress that flowed like a river, wearing heels yet maintaining her perfect elegance. She walked towards him, "Nightingale," a pause. "If it isn't you... Would you like to join our clan?"
'What?'
He looked lost.
Why was she here?
What were her motives?
What is Morgan of Valor thinking?
And then, he blinked. She looked rather beautiful. Not quite like Nephis, or Cassie, but in her own way she was... Elegant? Yeah, something like that.
---
Morgan recalled everything from the moment she stepped away, growing bored of the countless proposals and formalities. They were all weak. Fragile.
And most weren't even worth it—neither with their looks, or political worth, or their strengths...
They would break because of her Flaw.
There, in the corner of her eye, she saw a dashing man with a charming smile. He stood there. Alone. And, uninterrupted. She had no idea how he managed to hide himself, but for whatever reason it worked. And so she started walking towards him.
Then, coming back to the present, she saw him blink with nervousness. His throat bobbed, and then he... swallowed something? Did he just gulp!?
Then, she saw heat creep up across his cheeks, as rose bloomed on his face.
Wait... What was that comparison? Ew.
---
Kai looked at her, "I will have to think about it. Thank you." He replied politely, and decided to wait for her to leave.
Suddenly, an image flashed in Kai's mind. A being. A being so terrifying that—that he couldn't even shiver. He was frozen. Utterly frozen.
He couldn't bring himself to look at it.
"This will be interesting..." The Author said... Somehow, Kai knew it was someone called "The Author."
And then, he found himself back at the ball, the fear vanishing from him. Just like the memory... except for the part where a being called The Author existed.
"Would you like to dance?" He asked, confused by the silence.
'Why did I say that out loud?'
Why?
Why?
"Huh? Sure." She replied.

The author—Back—looked around to see what he could do to bully Kaigan, and then, as if on cue, he saw Mordywardy move through the mirror to see what was happening.
"Oh?" His lips twitched, and behind the screen he put some popcorn in the oven. This would be fun.
Mordret, moving casually from one reflective surface to another, heard a sound, making him flinch.
"Take your camera. Go to where your sister is. And take photos—oh, also make sure to talk to her inside her head."
Something cold touched his neck, making him turn back. A scythe. There, a powerful figure stood, but just before he could get a proper look it disappeared.
---
At the food stalls, Effie stood while munching on some chocolate... like a cute, innocent child—only that she wasn't so cute.
'Hmmm... She reminds me of Delilah. From The Advent of Three Calamities.'
Cassie thought, right before flinching. Something interesting was about to unfold now, and a knowing smile appeared on her delicate face.
---
Beep beep
The oven sang, indicating the popcorn was now ready. Back rubbed his hands, eager to write what was about to unfold.
---
Kaigan's dance stunned everyone as they watched the ice-cold princess smile. Smile.
Smiling genuinely.
Their dance felt like two main characters dancing together, flowing flawlessly in each other's arms. In such a way that Morgan's skin didn't touch Kai's.
Even still... It was beautiful. Breathtaking.
It was to the point that even the reporters—the rare few—didn't bring out their cameras.
Kaigan moved together, their arms resting against each other. Morgan suddenly spinning with Kai's finger. Morgan getting closer each time.
Everyone around felt jealous.
And then, just as their dance ended.
Click.
Morgan heard a sound, her head immediately snapping to its left. There, inside the mirror, stood a figure she knew all too well.
Mordret... Or rather, Mordywardy.
