Chapter 36 - Severing Ties and a Silent Summons

I ducked away from Ivy's grasp and quickened my pace toward the office door. The last thing I needed was a physical altercation in a government building. Behind me, the drama continued to unfold.

"Ivy, stop it!" Alistair's voice was sharp with embarrassment. "This is a public place."

"Don't tell me to stop!" Ivy's shrill voice echoed through the hallway. "She's stealing you from me! Again!"

I kept walking, refusing to look back. Just a few more steps to the office door. My fingers had just touched the handle when Ivy's voice rose to a near-scream.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you, Hazel!"

The entire government center fell silent. Every head turned in our direction.

My shoulders tensed, but I didn't turn around. This was exactly what Ivy wanted—attention, drama, a scene with her as the tragic victim. I pushed the door open.

"She's stealing my husband!" Ivy announced to the stunned onlookers. "My own stepsister! While I'm dying of cancer!"
