Chapter 17 - Chapter Seventeen: Full Moon Reckoning With Embers of the Past

~Kaida Orion POV~

We return to the courtyard, and the pack cheers for us. Lanterns bob in festive wind, food and drink appear, as families celebrate our victory.

Lupus squeezes my hand. "You were magnificent."

I lean into him. "I couldn't have done it without you."

He kisses my head. "We did this together."

Later in our chamber, I sink onto the bed, weary but alive, Lupus sits beside me with a steaming cup of tea.

I take a sip. "Our bridal oath stands."

He smiles. "Yes."

I rest against him. "Pack is safe… for now."

He kisses my temple. "And we are stronger...for this night."

A soft breeze drifts through the open window, on the windowsill, unseen nearly, a small green crystal glows once before cracking into dust. My breath catches.

Lupus hushes me. "What is it?"

I stare at the spot. "I guess it is not over."
