Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Descent into Trial

The well yawned open like a wound in the earth.

Fetid air rushed upward, thick with rot, mana, and whispers that weren't wind.

Kael stood at the edge, the darkness below welcoming him like an old friend.

Zar flanked him, weapon ready. Lira tightened her grip on her staff, eyes glowing faintly with newly awakened mana.

[Dungeon Entered: Trial Crypt]

[Difficulty: Adaptive – Based on Leader Rank]

[Recommended Level: E+ to D]

[Objective: Conquer the 3 Abyss Wraiths and Awaken the Domain Core]

The stone staircase spiraled down, each step carved with ancient language — a warning, or a prayer long forgotten.

"SAGE: No map data available. Suggest extreme caution. Resurrection spells disabled. Escape locked until Trial complete."

Kael smirked.

"Perfect."

Floor One – The Wailing Hall

A wide chamber hollowed from black stone. Statues lined the walls — warriors missing faces, eyes gouged out, hands reaching for an unseen salvation.

As the trio stepped forward, the doors slammed shut. The statues cracked.

[Trial Initiated: Memory of the Lost – Survive for 120 seconds]

[Enemies: Hollow Echoes – Rank F+ Swarm]

Kael unleashed a pulse of despair.

[Skill Activated: Crown of Grief Lv.1 – AoE Despair Burst]

The echoes faltered.

Zar struck hard and fast. Lira created a burning rune-circle that ignited when the echoes crossed. Kael danced through them, every movement a blur of precision and wrath.

They endured.

Time burned like the last wick of a candle.

The final echo fell.

[Floor One Complete]

Floor Two – Chamber of Broken Vows

A cathedral turned upside down. Chains hung from the air, phantom voices weeping promises they could never keep.

The boss descended.

[Trial Two: Purge the Fallen Oathkeeper]

[Mini-Boss: Specter of Ser Aelric – Rank D-]

Kael spoke first.

"Neither were the kings who created you."

Blades met. Kael's chest cracked from a soulstrike. He struck back harder.

[Skill Chain Activated: Ghost Fang + Phantom Grasp + Devour Core → Abyss Shatter Lv.1]

One hit.

Specter destroyed.

[Mini-Boss Defeated]

[Item Acquired: Oathkeeper's Fragment]

[Kael – Level Up!]

[New Trait Gained: Breaker of Vows – Bonus damage to cursed and bound enemies.]

Final Floor – The Crypt Core

A floating platform above a pit of writhing shadows. A crystal pulsed at its heart. Three wraiths encircled it.

"He is no king." "He was never chosen." "He crawled from filth."

Kael's voice was steel.

"I chose myself."

The final battle erupted.

[Final Trial: Three Wraith Lords – Rank D+ Combined]

Kael's body tore, but still he stood. Zar broke chains with his roars. Lira's healing light flickered, but never went out.

Kael burned all.

[System Override: Tyrant Instinct – Temporary Invincibility: 8 seconds]

He shattered the final wraith with abyssal fury.

[Trial Complete]

[Domain Core Acquired: Redfall's Abyssal Heart]

[Territory Upgraded: Fortress Tier Initiated]

[Kael – Title Gained: Abyss King of Redfall]

They rose from the dungeon.

The sky cracked with thunder.

And far beyond Redfall, kingdoms trembled.

A new king had emerged.

Not a prince. Not a hero.

A tyrant born of shadow.

[Kael – Rank: D]

[Domain Authority: Level 1 – Redfall now grants passive regeneration, follower stat boosts, and evolution chance increase]

[Faction Reaction: Mass Alert | Threat Level: S-Rank Active]

[New Trait Developing: Sovereign of Dread]

Additional Expansion – Descent Deeper

[Domain Synergy Unlocked: Fortress Core Resonance]

[New Structure Available: Abyss Forge | Requires 3x Dark Crystals, 1x Core Shard]

[Follower Benefit: Rest within Redfall grants +25% Skill Growth Rate for 12 hours]

[Hidden Alert: Celestial Eye Observes – Your presence has triggered interest beyond mortal planes. Caution advised.]

Kael stared at the crystal throne forming from the core's resonance.

It was not yet a true throne — but it would be.

In time.

And with blood.

He summoned the forge. Metal twisted from shadow and memory. A blade began to take form.

Zar watched, awestruck.

Lira meditated, her staff now entwined with living mana roots from the trial.

And above, hidden in the veil between stars, something vast opened an eye.

A name had been spoken.

Kael.

Tyrant.

Throneborn.

And the heavens would soon answer.
