Afternoon, after the club meeting ended, Evans came to the castle alone.
The castle had already restored its usual atmosphere, but the topics the young wizards discussed had changed from the usual variety to what had happened last night.
"Tell me, who do you think built that Chamber?"
"Don't know, but if you ask me, it's definitely connected to those Slytherin people!"
"I remember hearing a senior say that this Chamber existed decades ago. Maybe it was built by Slytherin himself..."
After casually listening to those young wizards' discussions and confirming there was no useful information, Evans left the Great Hall and headed for the stairs leading underground.
Although that guess about Slytherin establishing the Chamber was interesting, without concrete evidence, he shouldn't believe such rumours.
He was a Slytherin student! He couldn't randomly badmouth his house's founder!
But if there was evidence, that would be another matter entirely.
Following the stairs downward, Evans soon reached Hogwarts' first basement level.
Dumbledore had said yesterday to have the professors search the castle for the Chamber's location.
For Evans, if there was anywhere in the school most suitable for establishing a chamber, it would definitely be underground.
Whether it was the first basement level where Potions class and the Slytherin common room were located or the dungeons further down, there were many dangerous areas rarely visited by people.
Especially the dungeons. That place permeated with vengeful spirits and all sorts of strange curses was simply the perfect location for establishing an underground chamber. If he wanted to build a chamber, he would definitely choose here.
However, if the Chamber was established by Slytherin, it could also exist elsewhere.
After all, Slytherin was one of Hogwarts' founders. When creating the castle, finding a place to establish a chamber wouldn't require special location selection.
But since there was no intelligence anyway, he naturally had to prioritise exploring the place he thought most likely.
Bypassing the corridors of the Slytherin common room and Potions classroom, Evans walked alone through the dim underground passages.
Hogwarts' underground wasn't a blank space but maze-like corridors. On both sides of the corridors stood some statues or portraits, with occasional prank-like traps appearing.
Walking along, Evans suddenly paused and looked to the side.
From the empty wall, a semi-transparent figure suddenly burst out and drifted leisurely toward the opposite wall.
It was covered in chains, its clothes stained with silver-white bloodstains, gaunt in appearance, staring with deep eyes. Looking extremely terrifying.
"Baron?"
Evans's eyes showed some surprise. As he knew, this Slytherin ghost usually stayed near the Astronomy Tower. Why would he come here?
However, that ghost apparently had no intention of acknowledging Evans and continued floating toward his target wall.
Looking at the ghost's back, Evans suddenly had some inspiration.
Hogwarts was home to many ghosts, beings capable of ignoring physical laws and roaming the castle at will, harbouring a level of intelligence beyond what students and professors realised.
With this in mind, Evans spoke quietly, calling to Baron as the ghost prepared to bore into the wall.
"Wait!"
The semi-transparent figure covered in silver-white blood slowly turned around, looking at Evans with its cold gaze.
But Evans paid no attention to the coldness in those eyes and directly asked:
"Do you know about the Chamber's existence?"
"Not clear." A hoarse and cold voice responded. After answering, Baron turned around and floated toward the wall.
But that person's voice came from behind again.
"What are you going to do?"
Pausing, Baron's cold eyes flashed with annoyance, but he still responded: "Attending an invitation."
One of the reasons it became a Hogwarts ghost was wanting to atone for its past mistakes.
This wizard seemed to be a school professor. If he had questions, he should answer them.
"Invitation?" Evans rubbed his chin. "Whose invitation?"
If it was some ghost gathering, he'd like to shamelessly participate and see if he could find any clues.
"A group of vengeful spirits."
Baron's tone also carried some impatient emotion. It didn't much like talking, and this human wizard apparently didn't want to end this conversation.
It was already somewhat irritated by the content of those vengeful spirits' gathering and now felt even worse.
However, Evans obviously hadn't noticed Baron's irritation. He lowered his head, thinking about the information revealed in Baron's words.
An invitation from a group of vengeful spirits. This was quite novel.
Although vengeful spirits might not have as extensive intelligence as ghosts, those souls who had borne countless grievances before death should also be able to provide him with some good intelligence.
Moreover, according to Dumbledore, the Chamber had been opened once decades ago. Hogwarts had been established for over a thousand years. Perhaps it had been opened more than twice before.
Maybe among those vengeful spirits, there were souls who had experienced those events.
"Can you take me along?"
"Together?" Baron's eyes flashed with surprise as he turned around and looked at Evans carefully.
He had already clearly indicated that vengeful spirits had invited him. Why did this wizard still insist on following along?
Those who became vengeful spirits were all beings who had borne great grievances before death, their souls unable to rest after death, with resentment condensed into physical monsters. They couldn't be compared to ghosts, which were basically harmless souls.
Although vengeful spirits generally wouldn't randomly attack unfamiliar wizards as long as that wizard wasn't the culprit who caused their death, a human wizard joining a vengeful spirit's gathering. Didn't he feel even a little afraid?
However, this had nothing to do with it.
Those vengeful spirits also hadn't said they couldn't invite humans to participate in that selection gathering.
Moreover, whether that group of vengeful spirits even counted as proper vengeful spirits was debatable.
They'd probably gone crazy after being in the dungeons for hundreds of years. Plus, those who caused their grievances had likely long left this world, so that group of vengeful spirits had idly created a bunch of ridiculous games.
Playing polo with their own heads. They could think of such things.
And lately they seemed to be planning to invite ghosts to join their ridiculous games too.
Shaking his head, Baron put those vengeful spirits' activities out of mind.
"Whatever."
Saying coldly, it turned its body and floated to the side.
But this time, it didn't directly pass through the wall, instead following the corridor in one direction.
Since it wasn't far from there anyway, guiding the way was no trouble.
Moreover, it was curious to see what scene would unfold when a human participated in a vengeful spirits' gathering.
Following behind Baron, after turning several corridors, Evans came to a somewhat ancient door.
Baron directly passed through the door, while Evans hesitated for two seconds before extending his hand and slowly pushing open the door.
The moment he pushed open the door, an extremely mournful voice reached his ears:
"I died so miserably!"
