Chapter 78 - CHAPTER 23: DEATH PAINTING

The air was quiet, unusually heavy. The streets of a rural town far from Tokyo bustled with mundane life — unaware that something grotesque stirred beneath the surface.

Somewhere in the ruins of an abandoned building, two humans—no, something beyond human—stood face to face with a grotesque creature birthed from cursed wombs.

They were brothers.

Eso. Kechizu.

Cursed Womb: Death Paintings No. 2 and No. 3.

Human in body. Curse in soul.

Eso crouched beside a decayed body, eyes gleaming red as he traced his blood-stained fingers across the concrete.

"This one's still warm," he murmured.

Kechizu chuckled, licking the blood off his arm. "The more we kill, the more complete we become."

Tokyo Jujutsu High. Evening.

Itadori Yuji walked into the mission room yawning, holding a half-eaten dorayaki. He looked around. "Yo, why do I feel like something bad's gonna happen again?"

Beside him, Nobara Kugisaki slammed her chair down and glared. "Because it is. We've got a mission. A gruesome one."

Across the room, Megumi Fushiguro laid out three crime scene photos.

"Three bodies. Same town. All with contorted expressions of agony. Skin melted, organs rotted. It's like they were... liquefied from the inside out."

Gojo, standing beside them with an energy drink in hand, added dramatically, "Boys and girls, your opponent this time might not just be a cursed spirit… but a cursed experiment."

Itadori raised a brow. "What does that mean?"

Gojo explained, "There were nine cursed wombs preserved by Jujutsu Tech years ago—failed hybrid experiments between humans and cursed spirits. But recently… three of them have gone missing."

Megumi interjected, "Meaning someone's using them. And now they're active."

Location: Sendai Suburbs.

Their mission? Investigate the site of the last attack and track the cursed wombs.

Arriving late at night, the trio entered an old inn where the last victim had reportedly been staying. The air was thick with residual cursed energy, but the place was empty.

Too empty.

Nobara squinted down the hall. "Something's here."

Suddenly—

CRASH!

The floor beneath them split open.

They fell into darkness.

Underground Cavern.

The trio groaned as they stood in a dim cavern beneath the inn. A chill hung in the air—and a strange buzzing sound echoed through the walls.

Then they saw it.

Kechizu. Standing in the shadows, half his body dripping with blood, smiling like a child about to play.

"Humans… how exciting."

Itadori stepped forward. "You're one of the Death Painting Wombs?"

Kechizu laughed. "I'm the third. You smell… different. Strong. Let's play!"

With a burst of cursed blood, he attacked.

Fight Breaks Out

Itadori blocked the initial strike, barely holding ground. Kechizu's blood splattered across the stone wall, melting it like acid.

Megumi jumped in, summoning his divine dogs. "Don't let the blood touch your skin—it's corrosive!"

Nobara launched nails from her hammer, weaving them with Resonance, but Kechizu's body seemed to warp unnaturally. "Too slow!"

He nearly struck her before Itadori tackled him mid-air, exchanging furious fists.

Aboveground, miles away…

In a different town, Eso smiled as he sensed the battle.

"So Kechizu found them first."

He opened a cursed scroll and licked the seal.

"Then I'll go meet them next…"
