Chapter 31 - CHAPTER 30: GAMBLE

AIMING AT THE UNTHINKABLE

The room was frozen in time.

Wincent Bracewell's gun pressed tightly against Rose's temple, his finger hovering over the trigger. Madison and Darmian stood stiff, their bodies tense, weapons lowered.

And then—the most unthinkable thing happened.

Alexander Bluestone raised his gun.

But he didn't aim at Wincent.

He aimed at Rose.

A single breath passed.

Rose's eyes widened in pure horror. Madison and Darmian inhaled sharply.

Even Wincent looked taken aback.

"You wouldn't." Wincent's voice wavered slightly.

Alexander smirked.

"Wouldn't I?"

His sapphire-blue eyes bored into Rose's soul.

"Sacrifice." His voice was cold, deliberate. "A small price to pay for a greater cause. Do you know what true justice is, Rose?"

She was shaking. Struggling to breathe.

"Justice is not kindness. Justice is not mercy. It is balance. To save many, one must sometimes be lost."

He tilted his head slightly, his finger pressing lightly on the trigger.

"And if one must be sacrificed for a world free of monsters like Wincent…"

His finger pulled back.

A gunshot rang out.

THE FALL OF WINCENT BRACEWELL

But the bullet never hit Rose.

Instead, a loud crack echoed through the room.

The chandelier above them snapped loose.

It came crashing down directly onto Wincent Bracewell.

CRASH!

Wincent's body was crushed beneath the weight of it.

His gun slipped from his grasp.

Rose stumbled backward in shock, heart hammering in her chest.

She rushed to Madison and Darmian, her body trembling.

Alexander, unfazed, walked forward.

Wincent, barely conscious, looked up at him. His breaths were ragged. His body trapped under the shattered remains of the chandelier.

Alexander towered over him. His sapphire-blue eyes were merciless.

"You should have known, Wincent." His voice was soft, almost mocking. "This world has no place for men like you."

Wincent coughed, blood staining his lips. "Y-You… monster…"

Alexander's smirk deepened.

"I never claimed to be anything else."

And then—

BANG!

One final shot.

Wincent Bracewell was dead.

Alexander lowered his gun.

The room was silent.

Rose's knees buckled, her mind still reeling from what had just happened.

Madison and Darmian exchanged a glance.

They all knew one thing now.

There was no escaping the Devil of Justice
