Chapter 5 - CLAIRE

I made my way to the police station, determined to tell them everything, I was going to take every person who bullied me, one by one. But to make sure everything goes as planned, I needed a witness. So, I called Claire, my only friend through this nightmare, the one who stood by my side when no one else did.

As we arrived, I stated everything that happened to me, all the torture and the humiliating I've been through. I told them everything? Detail by detail. The bruises, the words, the silence of the teachers. I thought this was it. I thought justice was finally coming. Then came Claire's turn. Her testimony

She denied everything.

She sat there, calm and collected, pretending she knew nothing. Nothing at all. As if none of it had ever happened. As if I had imagined it all.

I started at her, frozen. Is this real? Am I seeing it right? Is she being serious? Everything happened right in front her eyes. How could she deny it?

My blood was boiling. My hands were shaking with rage. I dragged her out of the room, looked her dead in the eyes and said:

 - "Claire? Is this really you? Is this what you promised me?" My voice trembled

 - "You said you'd tell the truth. You promised me that. You were my only friend, the only one and I trusted you with everything. But this... this is how you repay me?"

To my surprise, she started laughing, uncontrollably. A cruel, twisted laugh that echoed through the hallway. She looked at me, eyes cold, and sneered:

 - "I never knew you'd be this dumb. No brain, no beauty, and no daddy. Just think about it, Allie. Why would I snitch on the ones who helped me get rid of you? "

What was she saying? The words blurred together, I couldn't make sense of a single one. I was confused, not even sure what kind of expression I wore. What happened to the sweet girl who used to help me whenever I needed her? And who was this.... person standing in front of me?

But then she said:

-" I know your head's full of questions, so let me cut to the chase. The ones who bullied you? I paid them. But let's be real, did I even need to? No one even liked you. You were just a piece of trash, useless, annoying, and in the way. It was only a matter of time before someone took care of you."

 - "Oh, so that's how it is "I croaked.

Saying that, everything started to make sense. Why didn't she help me stop them earlier? She had everything, money, power. If she were real friend, it would've taken her no time to shut them down.

But she didn't. She never did.
