Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 : Speedster

At this point, Superman and Black Canary had arrived in Keystone City. In an underground shelter that Batman had prepared, they found Barry Allen, The Flash, and Wally West, Kid Flash, sitting quietly and staring at each other.

"When did a lead shelter appear here? And you two are actually sitting quietly and looking so bored."

Superman looked around, noticing that almost all the electronic devices originally in the shelter were smashed to pieces by the two speedsters. Clearly, someone had informed them about the virus before Superman and Canary arrived.

"It was Batman," The Flash told Superman. Batman had instructed them to hide there in advance.

Even before Damian Wayne contacted Batman, Batman had realized the virus could spread through bodily fluids and the internet. The first people he thought of weren't Damian, who was playing video games at Superman's house, but the two speedsters.

Batman knew that if a speedster became infected, they would transform into a demon capable of spreading death with blinding speed. Therefore, even if it meant sacrificing the potential help of the speedsters, he couldn't allow them to be infected.

For this reason, when Batman contacted Superman, he didn't even reveal Barry's location, fearing that Superman might want to gather the heroes and expose the speedsters to danger.

It was a pity that despite Batman's secrecy, and even though the lead in the shelter could block Superman's super-vision, Superman still found the two speedsters through other means.

He wanted to take them to the Daily Planet to reunite with everyone. Superman was completely unaware that his unintended actions had completely ruined Batman's most crucial plan.

"I can't believe Batman even anticipated a biological virus and prepared this specifically for you speedsters," Black Canary remarked after hearing Barry's story.

She couldn't help but sigh at Batman's incredible foresight. Without any prior signs, Batman had prepared for a zombie virus outbreak, something typically found only in science fiction movies.

"He is Batman, after all…" Barry's tone was somber. He had learned from his conversation with Batman that Batman himself had been infected. They had likely lost the smartest human being on Earth.

"We don't have time to mourn our friends. Many more people need our help," Superman said, consoling them. Suddenly, his super-hearing picked up the sounds of battle from the Daily Planet, along with his son's roar.

"An enemy has attacked the Daily Planet! We have to go back. Green Arrow and the kids might not last long…"

He heard that the enemy was just a giant woman, which wasn't a direct threat to young Jonathan Kent. However, if Jonathan couldn't bring himself to fight, it was highly likely that ordinary people in the Daily Planet would become infected.

Most importantly, there was another version of himself. Superman knew very well that in this virus-ridden world, every Kryptonian was a massive threat, even if the other person was only eight years old and couldn't even fly yet.

But even such a person, once infected, could potentially devour the sun in the future. Don't be surprised; Superman knew himself clearly and was confident he could devour the sun within ten years. If Clark Kent were infected and given the opportunity to learn to fly, he could do the same.

The four of them didn't hesitate. Superman didn't search while flying as he had on the way there but flew towards the Daily Planet at top speed. The speedsters naturally didn't want to be left behind.

In a blink, they turned into streaks of lightning and caught up with Superman on the ground. For a moment, only Black Canary, who had just become a Green Lantern, was left behind. Although her flying speed was first-rate, it was still a bit slower than these two extraordinary beings!

Meanwhile, at the Daily Planet, Clark was about to go down to help Damian and Green Arrow fight against the ordinary infected. He suddenly saw young Jonathan grabbed by the giant woman.

"Jon!"

Clark couldn't truly think of Jonathan as his son; after all, he was only eight years old. But the similarities in personality and their blood connection made Clark regard Jonathan as a friend. Seeing Jonathan in danger, Clark's eyes suddenly turned red, and his heat vision shot mercilessly towards the giant woman's hands that held Jonathan.

Clark's thermal vision couldn't burn through the giant woman's skin at that moment, but it was enough to cause her pain. As her grip weakened, Jonathan struggled free and hurriedly told Clark, "Don't attack! He might still be saved!"

This was Jonathan's incredible kindness. Because he wasn't sure if the person was beyond saving, he'd rather put himself in danger to save the other person's life. And at that moment, this kind spirit slowly spread into Clark's heart.

"But…"

"I believe in Dad. He'll definitely figure out what's going on here and come back in time!"

However, the next person to arrive was not Superman, but Alfred Pennyworth, who came with Batman's relics after defeating the infected Batman, burying three members of the Bat Family, and so on.

Alfred, flying the Batplane, had just approached when he saw the massive giant woman fighting with Jonathan and Damian. Without hesitation, Alfred immediately controlled the Batfighter to fire riot bullets. However, how could riot bullets meant to subdue ordinary people possibly harm the giant woman, who could even withstand Clark's thermal vision?

Such an attack not only failed to harm the giant woman but also put Alfred in danger as the giant woman shifted her attention to him. Unable to dodge the giant woman's fist, the back half of the Batfighter was shattered, and the remaining body was caught in the giant woman's hand. Alfred was about to be crushed into a ball of scrap metal along with the Batfighter.

Jonathan finally couldn't sit still anymore. He held nothing back and rushed towards the giant woman with all his strength, wanting to knock her down with one punch. But faster than him was another red and blue blur.

No one noticed what was happening. The giant woman was hit hard in the face and fell heavily to the ground. At the same time, the Batfighter in her hand exploded. Alfred, who was inside, was held by Superman as he slowly descended from the air.

After Superman appeared, The Flash, Kid Flash, Wonder Woman (who had responded to the call), and Black Canary (who arrived a few seconds later) also slowly descended from the sky. Superman had finally caught up.
