The fourteen females stay in their jail cell without any trouble. Their three meals are deliver everyday. Each time, they are given good food. Each time, they return the tray with politeness and no food is wasted. Everyday they waited with anxiety thus they started to walk around their jail cell. Sometimes they exercise or practice their sword skills and most of the time they meditate. On the third day, while siting down on their wooden bed, they talk to each other. With low voices, they talk about why they are in the military. Most of the females are in military because they did not want the only male to go into war. Thus most of them like Er Yin go to war as a male member of their families. While the younger girls who just join the military is to help earn more taels for the family. Since they are the oldest they have more responsibility to keep the younger siblings alive especially the boys who are seen far more important than a female.
While outside the jailers who are sitting on the desk listen what the female soldiers said. They feel sad for the outcome of these women. They rise everything to keep their families alive and risk their lives on the battleground. Yet the merciless emperor demand their blood just because they offended the gods in the sky. The jailers shake their heads and wonder how to make the female soldiers lives better inside the jail cells. Thus they chip in some taels to purchase some cotton blankets for the girls. The female soldiers accept the cotton blankets with gratefulness. Each of them bow deeply. It makes the jailers upset that the system is going to behead these female soldiers.
After nearly two week, the Duke came into the jail cell looking for Er Yin and the three other girls. He inform them that he had a dispatch send to their home to inform of this situation. Er Yin's heart sink hearing this. For the first time, her tears form in her eyes. She ask him not to allow her father to come to the city. Duke Yan said that it is best that they bring him here instead of he travel by himself all the way to the city. It will be safer. She lean on the wall to cry after the Duke leaves. Her jail mates who are staying with her gives her a hug. That day is the only day that they all crying in the jail cell. That night no one manage to sleep. They all look up the tiny window on the wall that allows the air to slip in. Thought that hole, they are able to see the moon that is hanging out with them.
One morning breakfast is served with fish congee and a bowl of mix vegetables. Along with chrysanthemum tea and a fried dough with peanuts. Soon after an hour they are told to line up to clean up themselves. A prison guard quietly tell them that this is the day of the judgement, he will go to the temple and pray for their safety. The female soldiers who hear this remain calm after all they been through the worst. After washing themselves, they tidy up their outfit. Each of them help each other to comb their hair. They all comb it up neatly into a pony tail. Once they step out of the room, a hand cuff is place on each wrist of the prisoners. The jailer slowly lead them out when all fourteen is ready. Outside the bright lights blinded the female soldiers. For a while they cannot see well when they can focus, they see the head eunuch Kang is on his horse. He order the imperial soldiers to surround them to prevent anyone who try to escape. Thus the girls are all chain link to each other and will be walking to the imperial palace which is twenty minutes of walk and they will walk through the busy street of the city to get to the imperial palace. They will be on public display. They look at each other and nod their head. The night before they talk softy that they want the emperor to know they did nothing wrong. They are only at fault for born as a female. They have killed a lot enemies and become a sinner for the nation. Now he wants their head. Won't the gods be even anger? Thus the girls are lead out of the prison ground slowly with a crowd of people waiting to see who are the ones who have cause the big problem. When they all step into the busy streets. A lot of women holler in the street to see young girls who are looking like their teenage child. Some are the parents of those girls. Er Yin walk straight and couldn't hear anyone. All she feel that it's unjust for what is happening right now. The imperial guards try to push away the crowds who are reaching for their prisoners. It is chaos and the Yamen dispatch their men to assist in crowd control. The entire street is block even the eunuch who is on his horse is not able to move. He scream repeatedly for them to go away but no one is listening. Until half an hour later more imperial guards come marching in with their spear threatening anyone who is blocking the way. Finally they start to walk. The crowd follow them all to outside of the imperial palace. They are shouting and throwing whatever they have on hand. The guards stop them and threaten to kill without mercy. Most of them kneel down in front of the fate and scream for the emperor to be merciful.
