Chapter 26 - Mysterious Device

"I don't want to hear any laughter. This is obviously some kind of mistake. Since it's volume two, it should obviously have been for that woman over there. That affinity for poison should have been mine! Well, never mind... even a god can make mistakes. Next."

Leaving no room for comments about her first reward, she continued with the second book, which she definitely thought would be a legendary skill worthy of her.

"Hahaha!! What did you say, little dragon? It seems that the rewards are fair. Obviously, you're very loud, so much so that the book you're missing had to be part of my reward."

"What did you say, fish woman?! Obviously they're yours! And you, stop smiling like that... It annoys me even more. Obviously everything is wrong! Where is my legendary skill?!"

The dragon lady was angry, and even more so with Naelune provoking her and Cassian looking at her with an 'I knew it' smile.

As she looked like she was about to pounce on him, she was so angry, he quickly tried to keep a straight face. It was time to move on.

"Ahem!, don't be discouraged. The other two are probably legendary artifacts or potions worthy of you."

"Ohh! As I expected of my servant. You seem to understand my greatness, despite being very rude. you seem worthy to be my number one servant, a. Well, be amazed at what follows and at my majestic greatness."

Well, Cassian just wanted to know what the other two items were, and he said it that way because he thought it was the most efficient way to continue with the item identification. Her becoming so happy was a byproduct.

"..."

The description, mainly of the item, caused even this dragon woman to fall silent, as did the rest, who listened to Cassian reading aloud from behind.

"Hee~ it seems that the rewards are really personalized. Hey, Lys, why don't you open yours? I'm curious about what the support types get."

"Y-yes..."

Cassian actually found it a little funny; it seemed, in a way, like a very direct hint from Plouthys. But the most important thing was to keep opening chests.

The next one, encouraged by Cassian, was Ellys. A little nervous about Cassian's expectations, she went ahead and opened hers, where three items appeared: a staff, a book, and a potion.

It was a staff that increased mana flow by 30%, a potion that increased mana recovery, and a skill book. It was also affinity-based, like Naleune: affinity to water.

"Oh, Little angel! Isn't that great?! Now we'll have more things in common."

"..."

As always, Ellys ignored Naelune's comments, who didn't take it to heart either.

"Okay, now it's your turn, Yefeng."

On the other hand, Cassian was more focused on opening chests. It wasn't that he wanted anything, it was just that the satisfaction of something coming out and equipping the team members felt fun. And even more so because now this was real life.

Yefeng, who also seemed a little pressured by Cassian, stepped forward and opened his chest. A sword and a potion came out of it.

"Let's see, what did you get?"

Again, not caring about personal space, Cassian began to read from behind what the screens of Yefeng's items said. It was a thin sword that, like his gloves, increased attack speed, and a potion that restored wounds.

"Now it's your turn, Ling-Ling!"

"..."

He called out to the silent Yeling, whose presence seemed faint. She didn't seem to expect Cassian to call her, because when he did, she panicked and ended up pointing at herself, as if to confirm that Cassian was talking to her.

"Yes, you, who else? You got a key too, right? Come on, open your chest."

Receiving Cassian's confirmation, she approached cautiously. Cassian noticed that she was shy... very shy. But that wasn't important; what was important was that she opened her chest.

"Let's see, just a book... Well, I don't think it's the fourth volume of those books on 'moderation of Words'."

"..."

"Let's see, what's this...? Affinity for darkness? Oh, I thought it would be an informative one since you didn't do anything. Good for you. Let's see... now there's only one left— ah!? Ria! What did you do? Why did you go ahead?"

"Huh? Did I do something wrong? I just opened my chest."

Cassian, who had finished reviewing Yeling's only item, was heading toward Veleriane, whom he believed would receive a considerable reward for her contribution. But when he looked in her direction, he realized that she had already opened hers.

Apparently, Veleriane had done so while Yeling was opening hers, so he hadn't noticed. She had even finished reviewing it already.

"No... well, it's nothing. What did you get?"(ノへ ̄)

He really thought Valeriane's would be special, even hoping it would have a different color sheen than the white ones like the rest.

Sure, it was Valeriane's chest, and it wasn't like he was in a position to say anything about her actions, but he still felt like something had been taken from him.

"Look, little knight, I don't know what you've done, but you've made him sad. He seemed so cheerful a moment ago...he was in such a good mood that he would have even agreed to let me stroke his muscles. Now you've ruined it."

"I would not have agreed! So, Ria , what did you get? Did it shine differently when you opened it? /_ \"

"I don't understand... nothing was different, but five items came out."

"Oh!"

Hearing the number, Cassian perked up a little. He thought there might be more than just potions, books, and equipment.

"I have a sword... I'm really surprised. That sword is much better than mine just because of the quality of the materials. I don't quite understand the improvement, but if it improves the cut, it's very good. Also, the armor is of excellent quality. It has so many details that I don't understand how it was made, and I don't even know what material it's made of. The note said 'carion iron', never heard of that material. It also says it has an automatic adjustment. It really is a..."

"..." (all)

Suddenly, Valeriane began to talk like never before, and only stopped when she noticed the puzzled faces of the others, which embarrassed her a little.

"Ahem!, sorry, I get a little excited when it comes to weaponry. The others are a skill book that says 'Critical Point'. Apparently, it helps me find weaknesses, which is very useful. Also, a potion that improves my speed, and finally, a brooch that says it's something to store things, although I don't understand what that means."

"Huh? Ria, isn't the last one a spatial storage item? It's used to store things inside it. How come you don't know what it is?"

Cassian regained his energy and approached Valeriane energetically to compare the brooch. It was obvious that in a fantasy world there must be some kind of inventory or something like an item for storing things, even though this was a small hair brooch.

"Huh? Sir Cassian, so you're familiar with this artifact? I guess you must have it in your world."

"Eh, no, I don't have them, but really, there aren't any in your world?"

"No, I've never heard of anything that can be used to store things."

"Then how do you store things?"

"Well, in a simple backpack, or if there are a lot of them, we carry them in carriages... or flying ships."

"You have flying ships...? No, that's not important. Well, what did the instructions say?"

"It said it could store up to three cubic meters of space. I have to hold what I want to put in it, put a little mana in it, and to take it out, I have to think about the object and put mana back in."

"Oh, I see. Try it with my potion, it would be awkward to carry, and it's small."

"Hmm... I'm not really very good with mana, but I think if that's all it takes... Oh! It disappeared, and to get it out I have to... OK, it came out, so that's how it works. What a mysterious device... how does it work?"

"Well, it's convenient to have spatial storage. Well, I guess we're done opening all the chests."

Although the ending was a bit anticlimactic, at least for him, Cassian felt satisfied. He hoped that in the future he would get some storage, as it seemed useful, but really his priority was something else, now that he knows what he can get out of the chests , he hoped that the next one would be that lucky.

Time to see what to do with that strange fruit.

It was time to refocus on what was important: they were still underground. They didn't know how long they would be in this situation, and they hadn't seen any food or water beyond those fruits.

But Cassian didn't really feel any need, even though he hadn't eaten or drunk anything all day and had been moving constantly. As always, his body was unique.

The rest didn't seem uncomfortable, but there was no telling how long that would last. At least, if that fruit was edible, it would ease the situation a little. Still, it was better to keep moving and find a way out.

Cassian, now with nothing to distract him, looked around. Counting the door they had just used, there was only one other door in that room, and it had a "7" on it.

Since it did not decrease when they opened the chests, it was obvious that they were basically forcing them to eat the fruit in order to get out.
