Chapter 8 - THE LIE

"By the way, Mohin, are you ready for the hunters' test? You should have at least two decent skills to make some parts of the test easier for you," Zain inquired.

"Actually, I—" Mohin began.

"Don't tell anyone about your skills. It might cause you problems in the future," The Outsider interrupted.

Mohin retorted, "Since when do you get to make decisions for me?"

"Fine, do whatever you want," The Outsider grumbled.

"Actually, I have three skills, but my body can't handle some of them," Mohin answered Zain's question.

Zain nodded knowingly and explained, "That's good. And since you said your body can't handle some skills, I assume you have a passive skill, most likely inherited from your family. Over 70% of passive skills are inherited from parents, and the remaining 30% come from Dungeons, provided there's an artifact there."

Mohin was taken aback and thought to himself, "So passive skills aren't acquired through training but are inherited. I must hide the truth about my ability then. I don't know how they'd react if they found out I can gain passive skills from monsters."

He asked them, "I have an active skill that I can't use." (He meant: Lightning Shock C)

"What?!" They were all stunned.

"What's wrong? Why are you all so surprised?"

"Mohin, what do you mean you can't use an active skill? Did you acquire it through training, or was it from an artifact?"

"I acquired it through training."

"That's impossible. If someone trains hard at something, they gain a skill based on their talent. Therefore, no one acquires an active skill and doesn't know how to use it, because they are the reason for having it in the first place. How can you not know how to use it? So, let me ask you again: did you gain your skill from an artifact?"

"I told you you'd get into trouble," The Outsider mocked.

Mohin answered Zain, "I... don't know. I woke up one night after hearing a strange sound in the forest. It was pitch black, and I couldn't see anything. I was terrified by the sound I heard. After a few minutes, I saw a faint glow from one of the trees, and when I reached it, I lost consciousness. I woke up the next morning. So, I thought everything I saw that night was just a dream. But suddenly, a strange voice I don't understand came to me, and I later discovered I had these skills."

Zain said, "It seems you were lucky, Mohin. What do you think, Brom? What do you suppose this artifact was?"

"I had sensed the presence of an artifact in the forest before. But it suddenly disappeared, and now I know why," said Brom, sounding skeptical.

The Outsider remarked to Mohin, "What a great performance and a great story, Mohin. But you should know that the person named Brom knows you're lying, and for some reason, he hasn't said anything. I advise you to be cautious of him, even if he's only D-Rank."
