Chapter 24 - 24. Gray Harbor Fish Seller

The Sea Monster spent about three days at sea and caught approximately 19.58 tons of black cod, with a total value of around 129,000 us dollars. After deducting all costs, this trip could earn about 80,000 us dollars.

When Li Wei told Buck and the other two about the trip's harvest, they all became excited, with no trace of fatigue left.

This included their 10%. According to the 3:3:4 ratio they had agreed upon, Buck would receive 3,200 us dollars, and Jim and Jack would each receive 2,400 us dollars.

This income already exceeded that of the vast majority of people in Eagle Country.

And Li Wei, as the Captain of the Sea Monster, could receive 70,000 us dollars.

He let Buck and the other two return to the cabin to rest, while he piloted the Sea Monster towards the nearest Gray Harbor.

Gray Harbor is one of the largest fishing ports in Anchorage. Every day, large numbers of deep-sea fishing vessels unload their catch here, which is then transported through established shipping channels to various parts of Eagle Country.

Five hours later, the Sea Monster arrived outside Gray Harbor, and from a distance, they could see a large number of fishing vessels waiting to enter the port.

Buck and the other two, who had already woken up, were sitting around the dining table discussing how to spend the money.

Li Wei did not join their discussion. He was constantly communicating with port staff via radio about the port entry matters.

The Sea Monster drifted at sea for over an hour before being allowed to enter the port for unloading.

Li Wei quickly docked at a berth according to the pilot's guidance. The buyer, who had been contacted in advance, was already waiting on the dock with his employees.

Li Wei handed the Sea Monster over to Buck and the other two, while he walked onto the dock alone and headed towards the buyer.

"Glenn Uncle, it's been a long time."

Li Wei stepped forward and gave the middle-aged man a warm hug.

"Li Wei, it's been a long time. I didn't expect you to take over from your father."

"Glenn Uncle, I didn't want to drop out either, but I still owe the bank over three million in loans."

Li Wei finished speaking and shrugged helplessly.

Glenn naturally knew where this loan came from and could only help Li Wei curse the tax bureau a couple of times.

"Damn IR, they are a bunch of annoying vampires. They will definitely all go to hell after they die."

"..."

After their usual cursing of the IR, the two finally got down to business.

"Li Wei, how was your harvest this trip? You didn't make it too clear on the phone just now."

"Glenn Uncle, you can always trust the Anderson family. We caught 19.58 tons of compliant black cod this trip."

Li Wei wasn't exactly lying when he said this.

Normally, there are no size restrictions on catching black cod; as long as they are caught, they can be sold.

However, the black cod caught by the Sea Monster were strictly required to be over 50 centimeters, with no external injuries on their body surface, and weighing over 8 pounds each. It's no exaggeration to say they were premium black cod.

Because of this, the black cod caught by the Sea Monster was considerably more expensive than the black cod caught by other fishing vessels.

Upon hearing this, Glenn immediately became interested. He had been cooperating with the original owner's father for over a decade and naturally knew what compliant black cod meant.

"Li Wei, let's go take a look at your boat now."

"..."

The two quickly arrived at the fishing vessel's deck. Li Wei directly pulled open the fish hold cover, revealing the densely packed black cod inside.

Seeing that the size and color of these black cod were all the same as before, a look of surprise couldn't help but appear on Glenn's face.

His fishery company mainly provided premium seafood to some mid-to-high-end supermarkets and restaurants, such as premium Halibut, black cod, True Cod, King Crab, Snow Crab, and other seafood products.

The original owner's father was one of his important partners, specifically providing him with high-quality black cod and Halibut.

After learning of his old friend's passing, he had been looking for reliable partners. He didn't expect to receive a call from Li Wei some time ago, only then realizing that his old friend's son had given up his studies and chosen to take over the family business.

Upon learning that the Sea Monster was arriving at port today to unload, he specifically came over to see if it was really as Li Wei had said.

The result did not disappoint him either; the quality of the black cod in the fish hold was very good and completely met his requirements.

"Li Wei, you really surprise me. The quality of this batch of black cod looks very good."

"Hehe, we just got lucky this trip."

"..."

While Li Wei and Glenn were chatting, Jim and Jack had already scooped out a dozen black cod from the fish hold.

Seeing this, Glenn said to the accompanying staff member beside him:

"Chris, take these black cod for testing."

"Boss, I'll go right away."

Li Wei and the others were already used to this. Perhaps because they exclusively supplied mid-to-high-end supermarkets, where the middle class and wealthy cared most about the nutritional content of food, Glenn would test the fish quality every time he received a shipment.

More than ten minutes later, the employee who had just taken the black cod samples for testing jogged over to Glenn's side.

"Boss, here is the test report."

Glenn took the test report, quickly read the results on it, and said with satisfaction:

"Li Wei, the quality of the black cod you caught this trip is very good. The protein and fat content are above average. I can offer a purchase price of 4 us dollars per pound."

Upon hearing this price, Li Wei's expression didn't change at all, but inwardly he was sighing about how profitable the mid-to-high-end market was.

Don't look at the purchase price Glenn offered; it's 1 us dollar higher than the market price. Once he transports this batch of black cod to Eagle Country, he can easily sell it for over ten us dollars per pound.

That's right, not over ten us dollars per kilogram, but over ten us dollars per pound.

This is the profit margin of the mid-to-high-end market.

Although it wasn't the first time Buck and the other two had traded with Glenn, they were shocked every time they heard his offer.

Is this the simple and unpretentious life of the rich?

Li Wei did not directly accept his offer.

Although he didn't know how much money Glenn could make, he knew the selling price of black cod in mid-to-high-end supermarkets.

He spoke directly:

"Glenn Uncle, you also said that the quality of this batch of black cod is very good. I think 5 us dollars per pound would be a good price."

"Li Wei, you should also know the market purchase price for black cod is only 3 us dollars per pound. The 4 us dollars purchase price I offered is already very high. If others knew this price, I could buy large quantities of black cod at any time."

"Glenn Uncle, you should be clearer than I am about the quality of the black cod that sells for 3 us dollars per pound on the market. Moreover, what you need most is a stable supply."

Upon hearing this, Glenn pondered for a moment and said:

"Li Wei, a purchase price of 5 us dollars per pound is absolutely impossible. I can add at most another 0.5 us dollars to the purchase price. If you want more, you'd better sell it to others."

Li Wei just wanted to earn a little more money. He didn't want to lose Glenn as a major client. In previous years, more than half of the Sea Monster's catch was sold to Glenn's fishery company.

This was also their family's most important source of income.

As for finding another buyer, it was simply impossible to find a client who would offer such a high price again.

If it weren't for the many years of cooperation between the two families, even if Li Wei wanted to sell the black cod to Glenn, Glenn might not necessarily pay attention to him.

"Pleasure doing business, Glenn Uncle."

"Pleasure doing business, Li Wei."

After the two agreed on the black cod purchase price, the rest of the work could be left to the people below.

The two of them went to the temporary office, chatting while waiting for the results.

On the Sea Monster, the black cod in the fish hold was quickly boxed and weighed by the fishery company's staff. Soon, the total weight of this batch of black cod was calculated to be 22.5 tons.

When Li Wei learned this number, his heart filled with joy. It was over two tons higher than he expected. At a purchase price of 4.5 us dollars per pound, he earned at least 220,000 us dollars this trip.

After Glenn confirmed the number was correct, he instructed the company staff to prepare the contract.

After Li Wei signed the contract, he had a check for 223,000 us dollars in his hand.

Li Wei's face remained calm, but inwardly he was overjoyed. It was 90,000 us dollars higher than he expected.

It was the same for Buck and the other two, who were all staring at the check in Li Wei's hand without blinking.

The three had originally thought they would earn at most 120,000 us dollars this trip, but unexpectedly, it was directly 90,000 more, becoming 223,000 us dollars.

This also meant they would receive more money.

If they weren't still at Glenn's company, they would definitely have cheered loudly.

After Li Wei and his group left the fishery company, Jim and Jack shouted excitedly:

"Boss, I'm not dreaming, am I! We actually earned 223,000 us dollars this trip."

"Ah! Jim, why are you pinching me!"
