Chapter 8 - Faceless Conversation (Part 2)

They both just sort of sat dormant for a moment. Soon after, the man spoke once more.

"I would easily get a spot in the Heroes Council, that comes without question," he said. Rokada sighed at these words.

"You're missing the point, David. Just because you're powerful doesn't mean you're a hero." Again, they both said nothing for what felt like longer than just the brief moment that it was. The masked man broke the silence once again.

"You wanted to know why I called you here, James?" he said. "I'll show you why." With that said, he walked over to the table that the mess of needles and tubes and viles sat, piled up. He reached around, grabbing a few different components. He quickly assembled them.

Rokada watched in shock as he grabbed a vile, hooked it up to a tube, and then placed a needle at the end. Without another word, he pushed his sleeve down, and stabbed himself with the needle. He began to scream in agony. Then, he turned what appeared to be a lock on the vile, releasing whatever was in it into him. This only caused him to wail louder.

Feeling like he should do something, Rokada continuously tried to break his ties. Meanwhile, it appeared as if the process had completed, as the man ripped the needle out of himself, and covered his arm back up.

Rokada had finally broken the bindings. He went towards the man, but found himself moving no further as the man outstretched his hand. He looked tentatively at his own control as he held Rokada midair, and began to laugh. It was a maniacal laugh, one that echoed throughout the halls of whatever warehouse they were in.

When the laughing stopped, he began to speak. His voice was slightly deeper, and more refined. "Finally! The culmination of all of these years of hard labor, all paying off!" As he drifted deeper into his own ego, Rokada was able to quickly escape his grasp, and flew swiftly out of the warehouse. He appeared home free, flying supersonic in the direction of Hero Tower.

Suddenly, though, he was motionless, strapped to the chair once more, sitting in front of the masked man. He tried to break free once more, but had no luck. The bindings were impossible to rupture this time. He spoke, scared and shocked by the man's abilities and nature.

"David," he said, his voice nearly a whisper. "What has gotten into you?" The man picked him up by the neck, his grip tightening.

"From now on," he said. "I am no longer David. You shall only refer to me as RUNE."
