Chapter 43 - Beep Beep Beep

The world seemed to be a cacophony of shattered glasses and screeching tires, the chaos was even more disorienting. My head was throbbing badly, and my vision was a blurry mess of light and shadow.

I was on the brink of passing out, my consciousness was slipping fast and there was nothing I could do to stop it. But I could still hear what was happening though it all sounded faint and distant.

I could heat the sharp reports of gunfire which was a relentless rhythm that was so close it felt like it was inside my head. I could smell the sickening smell of burnt rubber and gunpowder as it filled the air. I could hear the shouting, the curses, the frantic, panicked sounds of people trying to flee the chaos.

Then there was Elias's voice. It was a low but desperate sound, a frantic whisper that was so close it felt like it was in my ear, it made my head throb harder. I wanted to tell him to stop but I couldn't even bring myself to say a word.
