Chapter 390: Is It Called the Immortal Realm?
"I still don't know your name, Fellow Daoist," Li Xun remained noncommittal as he carefully studied the white-robed man's appearance before speaking calmly.
"Shen Chong."
The white-robed man smiled.
He made no attempt to conceal his identity and added:
"My name comes from a bygone era. I imagine you've never heard of it, Fellow Daoist Li."
"Shen Chong?"
Li Xun frowned.
He exchanged a glance with Huang Xi, and both looked equally puzzled.
Just as the man had said, neither of them had ever heard the name—not in the present era, nor in the ancient age from which Huang Xi came.
Logically speaking, the white-robed man's strength should be at least above theirs, likely that of a Great Saint or even a Quasi-Emperor.
Someone of that caliber should have left traces in history regardless of the era they lived in.
Yet strangely, it was as though this powerful man had appeared out of thin air. There were no historical records of him whatsoever.
His existence felt unnervingly out of place.
"That's right."
Shen Chong's cultivation was profound. He seemed to have merged with heaven and earth, clearly surpassing both Li Xun and Huang Xi. Yet he displayed no arrogance and said gently:
"Now then, Fellow Daoist Li, what do you think of my earlier proposal?"
As he spoke, he narrowed his eyes slightly and glanced at Xiao Fan, evidently pleased with him.
Of course, the person he truly wished to recruit was Li Xun.
Unfortunately, Li Xun possessed an exceptionally firm will and had already grown immensely powerful. At this stage, persuading him to join was virtually impossible.
Someone like Xiao Fan, a rising talent, still offered a slim chance.
But only a slim one.
In the end, everything depended on Li Xun's attitude.
Li Xun smiled and said,
"Hasn't the Taiyin Divine Mansion already demonstrated the results of its methods?"
The moment those words were spoken, Shen Chong's expression stiffened.
Li Xun was clearly referring to Xiao Chen—the genius blessed with two supreme talents.
Yet even he had ultimately lost to Xiao Fan, whose Immortal Body had not yet fully awakened.
It was enough to show that, when it came to nurturing talent, the Taiyin Divine Mansion had already come up short.
If Xiao Fan were to join them, who knew what they might turn him into?
He might well become another Xiao Chen.
Shen Chong replied meaningfully, "What you've seen is only the tip of the iceberg. Just as with this world—you believe you've already seen its complete picture, do you not?"
Li Xun's eyes narrowed.
"What do you mean?"
Ever since arriving in this world, he had spent a considerable amount of time cultivating. His true strength had already reached the Saint King realm, though outsiders remained unaware of this.
It was no exaggeration to say that Li Xun now stood above countless trillions of living beings.
There were very few existences stronger than him, and each was an ancient monster who rarely appeared in the world.
If even someone like him could not see the true face of this world, then no one else could hope to understand it either.
As far as Li Xun knew, although the world was vast, he was already familiar with many of its ancient regions, including the Desolate Ancient Continent, the Heavenly Island Ancient Domain, and various star domains.
Ordinarily, knowing these places would seem enough to grasp the world's overall structure.
Yet Shen Chong's words suggested otherwise.
The implication was unmistakable.
"The Taiyin Divine Mansion is far more than what you see before you. There are many others within it who are like me. And just as with the Mansion, this world contains unimaginably vast realms beyond the places visible to you."
Shen Chong smiled faintly and continued,
"Although Xiao Chen is exceptionally gifted, he has yet to reach the level where the Taiyin Divine Mansion would devote all of its resources to cultivating him."
"Xiao Fan is different. If he joins the Taiyin Divine Mansion, the treatment he receives will certainly surpass what Xiao Chen once enjoyed."
"Likewise, his future achievements will also surpass Xiao Chen's."
Li Xun chuckled lightly.
"I wonder where these other beings, who are supposedly your equals, are located?"
A figure like Shen Chong already stood at the pinnacle of the cultivation world. If there were truly many others like him, Li Xun found it hard to believe they would have simply stood by while Xiao Chen had nearly been crippled by him.
After all, Xiao Chen's talent spoke for itself.
Not every supreme expert could remain indifferent to such a prodigy, nor would Shen Chong have needed to personally come here to negotiate with him if those experts had been readily available.
The most likely explanation was that the powerful individuals Shen Chong referred to were not in the Taiyin Divine Mansion at all—
Perhaps they were not even in this world.
After all, many of the Mansion's legends were no longer secret. It was widely believed that the Taiyin Divine Mansion was connected to the legendary Immortal Realm.
If most of its true experts were indeed in the Immortal Realm, then for the Taiyin Divine Mansion of today, it made little practical difference whether they existed or not.
Those people could not interfere with the affairs of this world, so Li Xun had no reason to fear them too much.
"They are in this world," Shen Chong answered without hesitation.
After a brief pause, he smiled again and asked, "Fellow Daoist Li, in your opinion, does the world we currently inhabit have a name?"
"It doesn't."
This time, before Li Xun could answer, Huang Xi spoke first.
Just as she had said, the current world indeed had no name. It was also something that had puzzled Li Xun when he had first transmigrated here.
Before his transmigration, the world he came from likewise had no specific name. It was simply called the universe. The planets within it—including the one beneath his feet—and the surrounding star systems each had their own names.
It was much the same here, where places such as the Desolate Ancient Continent and the Heavenly Island Ancient Domain each had their own names.
The reason for this was simple.
Without another world to compare against or travel to, there was no need to give one's own world a distinct name.
But the moment Shen Chong raised the topic, Li Xun's curiosity was piqued.
He had a feeling something significant was about to be revealed.
Shen Chong spoke calmly, "But what if I were to tell you today that this world does have a name…"
"Its name is the Immortal Realm."
His tone was casual, yet his words exploded like a thunderclap in the ears of everyone present.
"The Immortal Realm?"
Li Xun quickly regained his composure.
Although the revelation was astonishing, what puzzled him most was something else.
The current world hardly seemed worthy of the title Immortal Realm.
Its overall strength was simply too weak.
Looking across the myriad worlds of the heavens, this was perhaps the only "Immortal Realm" in existence that did not have any true immortals living within it.
