Chapter 392: And the Other Matter?
The Heavenly Island Ancient Domain.
It was a vast and boundless star domain. In some respects, it was even larger than the Desolate Ancient Continent. Countless living beings inhabited the innumerable stars scattered throughout its expanse.
If a great cultivator were to sweep the void with their spiritual sense, they would discover that nearly every star was occupied by a powerful clan.
Among them was the Feng Clan.
One of the ancient royal clans, the Feng Clan possessed immense strength. Recently, many of its members had emerged from their long slumber. The moment they awakened, they seized control of over a hundred stars, bringing an enormous stretch of territory under their rule.
At this moment, within the Feng Clan's ancestral land, countless terrifying auras lay dormant.
Anyone who entered this sacred place would immediately become tense and cautious, as though walking on thin ice, not daring to make the slightest unnecessary movement.
Before a towering cliff—
Immortal mist drifted through the air, while a sea of clouds rolled endlessly below.
A man with a pair of wings on his back stood at the edge of the precipice with his hands clasped behind him.
His long blue hair flowed freely in the wind.
His eyes were unfathomably deep, reflecting countless stars as though an entire universe lay within them.
He murmured calmly, "Chen Xingzhi is dead?"
His tone was indifferent, as if the death of a mere ant were beneath his concern.
Even so—
Behind him, a servant stood bent at the waist.
His face was pale, sweat poured from his brow, and his body trembled under an overwhelming pressure. He looked as though he might collapse to his knees at any moment.
The servant replied respectfully, "Reporting to my lord, I only received the news moments ago. Not long after Chen Xingzhi arrived on the Desolate Ancient Continent, he perished."
The winged man asked casually, "How long has he been dead?"
The servant answered in a low voice,
"Approximately... half a day."
"A pity."
The man's words carried an ambiguous meaning.
Others did not know, but he himself understood perfectly.
The real reason he had sent Chen Xingzhi to the Desolate Ancient Continent was to search for the Immortal Body.
Now, however, before anyone even knew whether the Immortal Body had been found, Chen Xingzhi had already died.
Thinking back to the trump card he had given Chen Xingzhi before his departure, the man found it easy to draw a conclusion.
Whoever had killed Chen Xingzhi was most likely a Saint King.
What he could not understand was this:
Chen Xingzhi had only been at the Divine Palace Realm.
How could someone of that level possibly provoke a terrifying Saint King?
Unless...
The Desolate Ancient Continent had not declined nearly as much as everyone believed.
Could it still resemble the ancient age, where Saint Kings were everywhere and even Saints were commonplace?
The idea was difficult to believe.
He wanted to verify it himself, but he simply could not leave.
The Feng Clan had only recently begun awakening.
Many of its clansmen were still sealed in slumber.
The clan was still far from recovering the glory it had enjoyed during the ancient era.
Had this happened in ancient times, he would have learned every detail surrounding Chen Xingzhi's death the very moment it occurred.
Now, however...
He would have to dispatch people to investigate the matter thoroughly.
He waved his hand.
"Very well. You may leave."
Yet after receiving the order, the servant did not move.
He remained where he stood, his face showing clear hesitation.
The winged man frowned.
"Is there something else?"
The servant bowed and answered, "Reporting to my lord, not long ago I received two pieces of news."
"The first is that the ancient teleportation array within the Heavenly Evolution Sect has been activated once again."
"Oh?"
Hearing those words, the man's interest was immediately piqued.
The man's eyebrows rose slightly.
Since awakening from his seal, he had spent this period learning about the outside world. Although he still knew relatively little about distant places like the Desolate Ancient Continent, he had already gained a fairly complete understanding of the affairs within the Heavenly Island Ancient Domain.
Long ago, the Heavenly Evolution Sect had been one of the subordinate forces of the Taiyin Divine Mansion.
During the era when the Heavenly Island Ancient Domain flourished, the two maintained close ties. The Heavenly Evolution Sect regularly sent promising young cultivators to the Taiyin Divine Mansion, earning itself considerable prestige throughout the domain.
But as time passed, the Heavenly Island Ancient Domain produced fewer and fewer talented cultivators, while many of the ancient royal clans sealed themselves away.
The Heavenly Evolution Sect gradually declined as well.
The fact that it had survived until the present day was, in itself, something of a miracle.
Now, however, the ancient teleportation array within the sect had lit up once more.
That could only mean one thing:
Someone from the Taiyin Divine Mansion, far away on the Desolate Ancient Continent, had crossed into this realm again.
"A coincidence?" The man murmured to himself.
Chen Xingzhi had just died, and immediately afterward, someone from the Taiyin Divine Mansion arrived.
The timing was too suspicious to ignore.
Moreover, Chen Xingzhi's death almost certainly involved the intervention of a Saint King.
Even on the Desolate Ancient Continent, such an incident would surely have caused quite a stir.
Perhaps he could question the newcomers from the Desolate Ancient Continent and see whether they knew who had killed Chen Xingzhi.
At the same time, he could inquire whether the rumored Immortal Body truly existed there.
Then he seemed to remember something else.
"And the second matter?"
The servant immediately replied, "The Young Master of the Fei Clan has invited you to the Chaotic Star Domain."
"The Fei Clan's Young Master? The Chaotic Star Domain?"
The man's brow furrowed.
He knew the Fei Clan well.
Their clan and the Feng Clan had always been closely allied.
Besides the two of them, there was a third clan. The three clans were regarded as branches of the same lineage.
This was because all three had once submitted to an immensely powerful clan.
Although that race had long since vanished from history, the three surviving clans had each inherited part of its legacy to varying degrees.
That was why they remained so closely connected.
"The Chaotic Star Domain..."
The man pondered for a moment, his gaze becoming distant.
He murmured,
"Has the Desolate Dao inheritance appeared?"
The Desolate Dao was an immensely powerful force.
Each generation had only a single successor.
Once that successor matured, they would automatically inherit the title of Master of the Desolate Dao.
The location of the Desolate Dao's inheritance was not a secret.
It lay within the Chaotic Star Domain.
However, simply knowing where it was meant nothing.
If the timing was wrong, or if one's destiny and fortune were insufficient, then even if one stood directly before the inheritance, it would remain forever beyond reach.
But if someone successfully obtained the inheritance, the rewards were extraordinary.
Not only would they receive the personal guidance of the previous Master of the Desolate Dao, they would also inherit control over a vast and powerful organization.
Although the Desolate Dao accepted only one successor in each generation, there was one fact that could not be overlooked:
The Master of the Desolate Dao commanded several extremely powerful clans.
That thought stirred some unpleasant memories within the man.
Because...
His own ancestors had once been among those clans ruled by another.
However, if they could seize the Desolate Dao inheritance, the brand of subjugation carried by their people could be completely erased.
More than that—
They could reverse how the world viewed them.
In a single stroke, they would transform from the ruled into the rulers, becoming those who held power over others.
For that reason, the appearance of the Desolate Dao inheritance was, to them, something that absolutely had to be obtained.
