My eyes watch as Nyelle drops to the floor. She stays there motionless.
The world goes still, and nothing makes sense to me for the next few seconds after. I just stare my mind unable to catch up to what my eyes have just seen. It's like someone plunging your face in water for two minutes, and when your head is brought up again, it feels as though nothing makes sense in those next seconds you finally breathe once more.
My fingers twitch, but they don't move. I just keep staring, my chest feels hollow, not so far from an inevitable outburst. I take a sluggish step back, my head finally piecing the fragments of what just happened in my brain.
"You monster!" I lunge at the wretched man standing in front of me, a stupid, smug, smile plastered on his face.
The guards hold me back before I can reach him, their hands bruising my arms.
"Take her away, we will have her executed tomorrow morning," he says casually, slipping the revolver back in his pocket.
