Chapter 34 - First Wave

A Month has passed since Theo has been deposited in the Arctic Tundra

In a cave on a cliff face, there he was in front of cracking fire, roasting the meat of some prey that he had caught the night before.

Around the room, you see the fruits of his labor, animal hides adorn the walls keeping the heat in and a pile of bones sharpened into fine point weapons.

Suddenly he looks out at the cave's entrance, he feels it before he sees anything, the sharp increase in the ambient mana.

It was like nothing he has ever felt before; dark clouds spread over the skies, not just here but the entire world.

People look up in surprise, checking their phones for any weather updates.

The animals feel it more intensely, in forests there are no sounds, no chirping of birds nor the howling of beasts, rather reverence as they look up and wait for the flood that is to ensue.

It's not long that they must wait, with a roar of thunder, as though Zeus in Olympus expelling the mightiest roar, and heavy rain that seemed to want to wash away the world began to fall.

This is not the strange thing, rather it is that there is no runover, no trace that anything has fallen, as though all of it is an illusion of the mind.

This rain, however, is real, real enough to the senses, it is sweet and carried a weight unlike any liquid that they have ever felt, heavy but light, as though a mist.

There are no reports on the news about this, and no bowl can hold what is falling.

Back at the training camp, an alarm was set off and every one of the new recruits line up in crisp disciplined ones.

The guide exits one of her doors with more vigor then ever seen,

"This is an grand opportunity for you all, this is the first tide of the resurgence, these spirit dews will help you in cultivation and fill in the gaps in some of your foundations, don't waste and the begin practicing."

With that she quickly disappears and leaves the recruits scrambling to find an open space to begin their practice.

Terra, not like everyone else, stands there in a trance, as the dew begins to float besides her, the liquid that caused no run off before seems to be collected as it hit the ground around her.

Rachel next to her can only sigh, talent is enviable, in the time that they were at the training camp, Terra's talent presented itself more and more

It started slowly with faster recovery rates but later, even her speed in cultivating far surpassed her and even passed some of the kids from this world.

Naemor next to her, "don't think about it too much, rather you should be focusing on making the most out of this."

Rachel pans over to him relaxed, "what about you, why aren't you scrambling to make the most out of this?"

This dew is great for anyone below Tier 4, but my realm is too high compared to the other around me, if I were to start cultivating, a battle would ensue in the surrounding area about distribution.

Plus I have my own ways of preserving the dew and maximizing it's effects, you need to be worried about your own cultivation," he says as he walks back to the barracks.

At the Nihelson estate, Alaric looks outside and see the brewing storm in the clouds, he take a deep breath drawing in the scent of the raising levels of ambient mana, "Shadow" he calls from the void, "yes milord": send out a notice telling everyone to capitalize on this opportunity, and remove the limiter on cultivation, cultivating up to the Monster Tier is now allowed for all members." With that Shadow simply nods and disappears.

"I'm going on a walk."

Stella is in the basement with her father, and as she stands and she feels the ambient mana increasing, "what's going on, it feels as though the whole world is taking a breathing."

Shaka stands there, this is the beginning of the resurgence, with you being the last high human, you technically should feel this the most, but this is a great opportunity.

We could fast forward your cultivation by many months even years, depending on how long this wave lasts.

But with this, there is many more trials and tribulations to come, the resurgence itself brings is not only opportunity, but catastrophe.

This realm was not always as small as it is now even though it may seem large and expensive to you now. The population is reaching a breaking point and there is little to no space for many more people. But with the resurgence coming now, the area, the total landmass will increase and the threats that that brings with it are immense."

"So what are you saying, or are you saying that the Earth is going to increase in size."

"Yes, in fact the volume of this world will increase by approximately 10 times, that in itself is a force that can break and create at a moment will,

not even mentioning the flood of mana that is going to totally change the environment.

And when I speak of this realm, I speak not only to this rock that we reside on, but the entire solar system in which we embody.

What does the rest of the solar system have to do with any of this?"

Alric standing in front of the door to a classroom, looking from the glass as a teacher instructs some of the children.

"In general, there are two great sources of mana in any realm, the world tree in which it is built on and its star, the star itself is a battery per say.

The excess energy in which is excreted by the world tree gets stored in the sun and is radiated out.

That's why at the coming and going of each tide it's not sudden and rapid but rather gradual change.

It is the sun radiating its energy for years to come until it has no more. And then that is when the laws of physics truly hold rain overwhelm. "

Store wide eye view in this information, "so when will the catastrophe begin?"

Shaka looks up into the distance, though reading the weather for the daily forecast,

"It should begin slowly after this rain, as the realm adapts more the influx of mana, it should begin to revert to its previous state but before then I need you to get ready yourself.

The amount of lives that are to be lost is a form of pain and suffering that you could not conceive of.

Rivers of blood shall flow and there will be violence and cruelty you have never seen, people tearing each other limb from stern, and sickness that they have no means of solving.

This is the fate of mankind, this is the beginning of the story, no matter how cruel it may be right now it will only get worse in the future.

That is, if you have no power to your name, no one who shall support the weight of the world, if your words are simply waste of breath, compared to orders from the heavens above.

You are the last high human of this realm and therefore it is your responsibility to lead us into a better day. "Stela stood there with her head hanging low,

"How, how am I supposed to take upon this responsibility when I've only been training for a few months.

You guys only reluctantly introduced me to the world I know today because of a series of accidents, and now I am supposed to lead the realm to what is basically the apocalypse."

Shaka walks steadily towards Stella, pace unwavering,

"Maybe I didn't make myself clear before, if you started training earlier, you would have been killed, if we push you any further it will break you, and if we are any softer, it will be at a disservice to you.

What is happening is occurring at the time that it needs to happen, the more you try to fight it, the less you realize how little control you truly have."

Stella looks up at him teary eyed, "What about the kids, tell me they at least they are safe"

"Oh, the children, we have a plan for them. For the most part they will live, it is their parents that will not make it in the end."

So, you're telling me we able to save the children, but not the parents explain that.

He's sat his drink down on the counter, and why must I do that?

Why must I explain to you a low-level member of this organization the thinking and inner thoughts of your higher ups."

(At the Nihelson Estate)

A shadow forms behind Alaric,

"Milord we are preparing for the Poison Jar Initiative but some of the council members are unsure of using mortal children, rather they would like to use the new recruits from this year's initiation."

Alric simply sighs, "those old bats can never see the bigger picture, and I bet it was the Psychis family, there are always worried about appearances."

The shadow said notion and simply waited, "Tell them that, we can raise better soldiers from the mortal children, especially during the catastrophe that is about to happen."

He suddenly cracks a smile, "because the children are easier than mend than their parents.

Imagine they have decades of walking along these lands, believing in what they believe to be the truth, now in this coming age, they're all no more truths at least those that they know of, and we have no patience to teach them.

So, we take their children, their children easier to mend with less truths, world views that they base everything on, they also make better soldiers.

They listen to us because we save them from the catastrophe, from the events that would've stripped them of their lives, even when their parents could not.

We gave them food to eat, water to drink, and even better power, to take their fate into their own hands;

We are their parents now in the best way for them to repay us is the train,

Train hard so they may be of used to us and if they are not used to us in the next child would be, no one wants to feel inferior, do they?

Now you may say this is inhumane or cruel but then I must ask you the question of what is the society that we're in; do you remember your childhood and the things that you and your siblings did?"

The shadow trembles imperceptibly beneath their clock,

"Now tell that overcautious old man to leave these handles to me and that he should concern himself with matters of the press."

"As you wish milord."

Alaric continues to look into the classroom, "if only we can get this over with, and hopefully there is some talent, the past generations have been disappointing.
