Author's Note

Please note that this is the unedited version of "Subject No. 9, Yu Xingxie: A Study in Human and Inhuman Behaviour, Volume 13." Should one find themselves stumbling upon this Story, please report to the Inflexible. Do not turn the page. Do not speak of this aloud. Do not share your unforeseen discovery. If one chooses to continue forward—though it is prohibited—remember this: many parts of this Story will be edited out in the final copy. Not all you read is what the Inflexible wants to ring true. Good luck, but one does not think it will do much. Not when my sister is involved.

"A Storyteller's most precious instrument are their eyes. They must observe their Subject from the Archeío. The second are their hands. They must write and never betray their sight—even if it does create complexities within the Story. Should that event occur, the Storyteller must gain clearance from the Inflexible to send others down to play a part. They do whatever it takes for the Story and its Subject to progress. Sometimes, that means abandoning the Subject altogether. [...] When the Storyteller is in doubt, remember this: the Story comes first. It always comes first."
