Chapter 35 - Descent into Flame

Setting: Selaria's Borderlands, Temple Ruins of Virell, Flame Gate Caverns

Theme: Infiltration, betrayal, awakening power, and the rising of an ancient terror

---

[Scene 1 – Crossing the Line]

Kaelrin, cloaked in mage-forged shadow, slipped across Selaria's border under the cover of a false eclipse — an illusion cast by Relan to shroud his path.

Behind him, only silence and a single vow echoed:

> "Bring her back. Bring yourself back."

The forest on Selaria's side wasn't alive — it was listening. Trees twisted toward him, and whispers scratched across the wind.

He found an old path, etched in molten rock — the Path of Embers, a forgotten trail that led to the Temple of Virell, Selaria's southern stronghold.

Inside, he found not guards… but bones.

And a sigil still glowing.

Selaria was preparing something. Something old.

> "Kaelrin of Flame… the Gate already breathes," said a voice behind him.

It was Thorne.

Alive. Changed. Wearing not red… but white ash.

---

[Scene 2 – The Return of Thorne]

Kaelrin lunged, blade drawn — but Thorne didn't flinch.

> "I'm not here to fight. Not now," Thorne said, his voice no longer cruel, but measured.

> "You allied with her," Kaelrin spat.

> "I infiltrated her," Thorne corrected. "And barely made it out alive. She's not just a queen anymore."

> "She's a god?"

> "She's a gatekeeper. The one who feeds the old gods power in exchange for memories. Souls."

Kaelrin hesitated. "Why help me?"

Thorne tossed him a scroll.

> "Because Lyra burns too bright for either of us to let her fall."

A fragile alliance was formed — between rivals, between fire and ash.

---

[Scene 3 – Lyra's Awakening]

Back in Velaris, Lyra stood before the Flame Gate, hidden beneath the palace — a portal once thought sealed.

The Archmage chanted, and the portal pulsed with ancestral flame.

> "Touch it," Relan said.

> "And if I lose myself?"

> "Then you were never meant to find your power."

Lyra stepped forward.

The flame licked her skin — not burning, but revealing.

Visions surged through her:

A palace of glass floating in stars

A woman with her face, but made of starlight

A beast with seven mouths whispering her name

And then: silence.

When she opened her eyes, her pupils glowed silver.

And her voice echoed with two tones.

> "I remember."

---

[Scene 4 – The Rise of the Drake]

Far to the east, in the shattered crater known as Ashend Maw, the skies split open.

Selaria stood atop a bone pillar, arms raised.

> "Drake of Ash, bound in ruin… rise."

From the lava rose a shape — serpentine, winged, covered in black crystal.

A creature made of forgotten fire and devoured time.

The Drake of Ash screamed — and mountains trembled.

She turned to her army.

> "Velaris burns at dawn."

---

[Scene 5 – A Message Delivered]

Back in the Flame Gate chamber, a shadow breached the wards — a crow-shaped wraith carrying a sealed scroll.

Lyra opened it.

> "If you remember who you are…

If you remember who I was…

Meet me at the Temple of Virell.

I will stand with you, or fall beside you.

— Kaelrin."

Her breath caught.

The Archmage nodded.

> "Go. And burn the lies away."
