The guardian closed the distance instantly, its spectral form crossing the chamber faster than Kane could blink.

He twisted desperately, instinct taking over where thought failed.

But he was not fast enough.

The massive fist struck him across the shoulder, causing an impact akin to that of a freight train.

Kane's body sailed through the air, crashing against the far wall with bone-jarring force.

His pistol skittered across the stone floor, disappearing into the swirling mist.

"Kane!" Cyrus's voice sounded distant, muffled by the ringing in Kane's ears.

Pain exploded through his ribs as he struggled to his feet.

The room tilted and spun around him, his vision doubling momentarily. Blood trickled from his nose.

The guardian advanced, its faceless visage somehow radiating malice. Despite being weakened by the broken chains, the guardian still possessed enough power to crush Kane.
