Chapter 147 - Offense is the Best Defense

As Paigos subordinate crumpled to the ground with a broken neck, Cain felt nothing. While he had nothing against his brothers spy, he needed to send a message. After the life had faded from the man's eyes, Cain knelt down and placed his hand over the mans heart. 

"Gluttony"

A thin wisp of energy rose from the corpse, heading towards Cain's outstretched hand before it condensed into a small semi transparent orb the size of a marble. Once the last thread of energy entered the marble, the last bit of color in the corpses face was drained. 

Gaius' voice moved through his mind, the same steady presence it always was. "Was revealing your cards truly the right move, Cain?"

Cain folded his fingers around the orb and did not answer immediately. He watched the orb as if it might offer some counsel of its own. "I saw the tail the moment Jayden calmed," he said finally.
