Chapter 38 - Memories III

The blood tendril, hardened to a spike, shot straight through Donny's shoulder, piercing him just inches before he could reach Dorian.

He halted in his steps with a jolt, and the grin on his face dropped, slowly contorting into a stunned expression.

Donny staggered back, the tendril retreated from his shoulder with a wet squelch, and blood splattered from the wound onto the ground.

Dorian remained still, standing up straight with both hands by his sides. The pain he felt had faded slightly, thanks to his fast healing and temperature regulation.

He chuckled softly and dragged in a deeper breath before speaking.

"What's wrong?" he asked, head tilted as he watched Donny stumble, struggling to stop the bleeding. "Didn't think you could actually feel pain, huh?"

Donny's mouth parted, yet no words came, just a strained choke that followed his gasps.

Kyle's boots scraped against the floor as he paused just a few feet away from his seat.
