Chapter 70: The Eye Transplant, and a Surprise
After lunch, at two in the afternoon, Genichi arrived at the Konoha Hospital. He had already made an appointment with Tsunade using a shadow clone.
In reality, a minor surgery like an eye transplant didn't require Tsunade at all. But since he had the connection, Genichi was of course going to trouble her. I trouble you, you trouble me, that's how relationships grow closer. This was called mutual exchange.
"I hear you're taking a leave of absence to go on a training pilgrimage?" Tsunade asked as she had Genichi lie down, picking up the eye which was stored in a glass bottle.
Genichi nodded. "Yes, but I won't be leaving until after March."
Tsunade took out the Sharingan and came to Genichi's side. "To complete that genjutsu?"
Genichi nodded.
Tsunade's palm covered Genichi's right eye. "An eye transplant will also have rejection. Although it's very, very small, it will definitely affect your use of dōjutsu."
"You need to be mentally prepared."
Genichi smiled. "I understand."
As he spoke, he felt a sharp pain in his right eye, and then he lost his sight. Immediately after, he felt a cool sensation in his right eye socket.
"Alright!" Tsunade withdrew her hand. "You could learn the Delicate Illness Extraction Technique (Saikan Chūshutsu no Jutsu). In the future, you'll be able to perform simple transplant surgeries like this yourself."
The eye transplant took less than three minutes from start to finish. It was so fast it was almost unbelievable. One could only say that the Sharingan truly was "plug-and-play."
Pushing himself up, Genichi kept his eyes closed for a moment to adjust, then slowly opened them again. The vision in his right eye was a bit blurry at first, then gradually became clear. And it was clearer than it had ever been before.
Hmm?
Suddenly, Genichi frowned. He felt his chakra suddenly rush into his right eye.
"Hiss..."
A sharp, stabbing pain shot through him, causing him to instinctively cover his right eye.
"What's wrong?" Tsunade, who had just finished storing the eye she had removed from Genichi, was startled.
"It's nothing..." Genichi shook his head. The sharp pain had already passed. He let go of his hand and opened his right eye again.
Instantly, a line of blood trickled down, and within his eye socket, a crimson light shone brightly for a moment.
Seeing this, Tsunade was shocked. "Three tomoe!"
"It actually evolved!"
"Could it be that you are a perfect match for this eye?"
Genichi took a moment to adjust to his new right eye, wiped away the blood, and sighed. "I'm afraid not."
"Namiichi himself was likely already on the verge of evolving. He just ran out of stamina at the time."
This was a truly unexpected surprise. The difference between a two-tomoe and a three-tomoe Sharingan was still very large. It wasn't just an improvement in perceptive ability and genjutsu prowess; at three tomoe, one could also copy ninjutsu that weren't secret techniques or kekkei genkai. This was the origin of Kakashi, the Copy Ninja of Konoha.
Konoha's Technician... The title made Genichi feel a strange urge to complain.
Getting off the bed, Genichi tried to deactivate the Sharingan, but to no avail. As expected, it didn't work.
But...
Genichi thought for a moment, then formed a hand seal, performing the Art of Zai. This seal allowed a person to better control their own abilities. Initially, Genichi could only use it on Water Release. Later, he had expanded it to genjutsu. Now, he wanted to try and see if he could use the Art of Zai to gain better control over the Sharingan.
And as he performed the Art of Zai, Genichi clearly felt that his ability to draw on the Sharingan's power became much more fluid. That initial feeling of unfamiliarity vanished without a trace.
However, when he tried to deactivate the Sharingan, he still failed. But a smile appeared on Genichi's face. Although he had failed now, this path was viable. He just hadn't mastered the Art of Zai to a sufficient degree yet.
"What's this? Did you have a different kind of success?" Tsunade asked.
Genichi nodded. "I can't completely master this eye yet, but I'm confident that it won't be long before I can control it freely."
Tsunade's eyebrow raised. "The Kuji-kiri?"
Genichi smiled and nodded. "Yes."
"Would you like to learn it, Lady Tsunade?"
Tsunade stretched languidly, her chest shaking, then turned and left. "Not interested."
Stubborn! You just can't learn it.
The corners of Genichi's mouth couldn't help but curve upwards. Perhaps this was his real cheat?
Stretching, Genichi left the Konoha Hospital with a spring in his step.
"Who should I go and practice with?" Genichi mused to himself. His master, Sakumo, was still recovering from his injuries. Kakashi had not yet returned. Guy and the others were still at the Academy. Uzumaki Kushina... never mind, that was a bit sensitive.
I'll go find En!
Genichi vanished from the spot.
However, by the time he arrived at En's house, his right eye looked no different from his left.
Cosmetic contact lenses.
Compared to Kakashi, who used his forehead protector to cover his Sharingan, Genichi felt that using cosmetic contacts was much more convenient and wouldn't affect its use at all. It could also slightly conceal his own intelligence, killing several birds with one stone.
After calling for En, the two of them went to their squad's usual training ground.
"En, let's try some taijutsu!" Genichi said.
En looked at his right eye and asked, "You've already transplanted Namiichi's eye?"
Genichi nodded, pointing to his own eye. "I'm using a cosmetic contact."
En couldn't help but shrug. "You, my friend, always have some unexpected ideas."
"Then let's go!" En raised his hands and got into a stance.
Genichi didn't hold back. He immediately leaped up and charged at En. The two of them began to spar, bare-handed.
But after only a dozen exchanges, En felt something was wrong. "This guy... how is he even stronger than Namiichi was?"
And at this moment, Genichi also couldn't help but marvel internally. "As expected of the Sharingan. The advantage it gives in taijutsu is simply astonishing."
"No wonder I was always beaten by Namiichi in close combat before."
The more En fought, the more something felt off. He quickly said, "Genichi, you're not using that Art of Pyo of yours, are you?"
"Of course not!" Genichi chuckled, grabbing En's arm and throwing him.
En landed and stabilized his figure. "This isn't right. Even Namiichi wasn't this strong."
"You're not from the Uchiha clan. You shouldn't be able to bring out the full power of the Sharingan." Of course, a three-tomoe was different from a two-tomoe.
Genichi just smiled and didn't explain. Instead, he said, "En, let's try genjutsu next!"
"Alright!" En's expression turned serious. The Yamanaka clan was proficient in Yin Release. Although they didn't necessarily master genjutsu, they were good at breaking it. But the Sharingan's genjutsu was in a league of its own, known for being silent and difficult to dispel. Although Genichi had only just transplanted the eye, his performance just now forced En to be cautious.
Taking a deep breath, Genichi closed his eyes and opened them again. The crimson glow of his right eye couldn't be completely concealed even by the cosmetic contact.
En had already prepared himself not to look into Genichi's eyes.
But he was still caught.
His body was completely immobile. He looked down and saw that he was bound by ropes.
Temporary Paralysis Technique (Kanashibari no Jutsu)!
En looked up at the Genichi opposite him and said in shock, "You... you used a Sharingan genjutsu without needing eye contact!"
