Chapter 13 - UPLIFT

Can't believe I really have to force my hand for this.

Mayeda used his leg to fling his shoe out of his foot.

The shoe shot straight towards one of the boys behind Okana, faster than the eye can see.

Right into the gut where the shoe would hit the poor boy.

"OOF!" A faint "oof" sound would play when one of them gets knocked down unconscious by the shoe.

The other five were surprised by what just happened, even Okana, who eventually glanced behind him to see what just happened for a split second.

Mayeda quickly takes advantage of the momentary of weakness to strategically grab the boy by the hair and slam him into the stall door that Kamamura was in.

BANG!

A brutal bang would be felt against the door, catching Kamamura off guard and turning around to see what was happening.

"HEY, WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING OUT THERE?" He yelled out.

Yoshikawa quickly took the opportunity of the brown haired boy's distraction from her to swiftly kick him in between the legs.

POW!

Kamamura gasped and fell to his knees from the sudden ball kick.

His hands covered his genitals and just kneeled there in pain.

"Fuck…" He whimpers quietly.

"S-sorry…" Yoshikawa quietly apologized in a quick manner before rushing out the stall.

She opens the bathroom stall door to see such an extraordinary scene playing out.

An unconscious body.

A boy hidden behind the body of a boy he just banged their head on.

Was he trying to help her?

And five other men who was standing behind them.

!!??

Everyone quickly noticed her.

Shit, I can't let Yoshikawa know it's me. Luckily I brought this just in case…

Mayeda swiftly scuffled a pair of glasses out of pockets for a split second.

Okana noticed.

Even Yoshikawa noticed this.

Her eyes widened a bit.

Mr. Sato?

The glasses looked oddly familiar to Usui's…

Mayeda glanced around the bathroom.

A light switch would be right between two of the boy's heads.

Ah, there it is.

Without a moment of hesitation, the figure flicks the glasses up, straight to the light switch that had the ceiling lights illuminate all over the bathroom.

A giant tile of light upon the numerous tiles on the ceiling would be the one making everything in the bathroom lighten up.

Which is exactly what would be gone.

FLIP!

Darkness.

Those glasses flipped the switch off with precise accuracy.

The sound of that glass clanging against the floor for a second before it became total silence.

"Damn it! I can't see!"

"Where's the damn light switch?!"

"Find it guys!"

"You fucking stupid bitch!"

"Why did you do that?!"

Call outs from the voices of boys erupted when the light turned off.

Trying to feel the sides for the light switch but to no avail.

"IS THIS YOUR WAY OF HIDING BITCH?" Okana calls out, seemingly very pissed off from the sudden change in events.

"Ah…" The white haired girl couldn't see in the darkness, trying to feel her way around.

This feels like a wall…

Yoshikawa kept feeling the solid surface before reaching a little higher.

Now it just feels a little sharp…

She was unknowingly touching Mayeda's jawline.

He just stood there with a straight face as he felt those soft hands touching him form his abs to his face.

Hasn't she recognized it's not a wall she's feeling?

He sighed before picking her up from the back of her clothes in a hand.

A surprised gasp would appear from her mouth when she was lifted off from the ground.

Footsteps would be made towards somewhere.

Yoshikawa in a panic began to beg a little.

"Please don't hurt me! I just wanted to see M-"

Brightness would appear from a side.

The door had opened that led back to the hallways.

Huh? I'm being freed?

Her eyes blinked a few times before she was settled down on the floor.

Sitting there on the flat, smooth surface.

She looks back but it was too late.

The door was closed.

Wait… that boy…

Was that the person who assisted me from the shadows?

She remembered there was a figure she couldn't exactly make out behind one of the playboys earlier.

Did they save her?

I didn't catch his face… so I might not be able to thank them properly…

The short girl stood up and looks at the door.

Well, at least I'm free now but what about…

She glanced at the time.

Oh goodness… I'm late for class…

Sprinting off as soon as she could.

Yoshikawa went off to speech class for whatever minutes is left.

Only a mental image in mind.

The fact she was saved and those glasses.

I hope they're going to be ok…

***

"DAMN IT BITCH, COME ON OUT ALREADY!" Okana calls out again the bathroom.

If it weren't for our thick these walls were thanks to the school thinking about privacy, they'd easily be heard.

But not in a place like this.

"H-hey guys! I found the light switch!" One of the boys announced before flicking it back on.

A second occurs.

CHOP!

Then the lights flick back on.

FLIP!

The bathroom had illuminated once again.

Everything seemed just about the same.

Those glasses were still on the floor.

Door was closed.

All five of the boys were conscious.

Wait.

Five?

The boy that tried to flick the light switch on was knocked unconscious.

However he seemed to not have any injuries.

Just a chop on the back of his neck was sufficed.

The one who flipped the switch on was the boy with black hair and clear light gray crystal eyes.

A small smile would form.

However not one that belonged of endearment or joy.

Something far more darker.

And that smile would belong to.

Mayeda Shin.

***

Man, why did I have to get sick on the second day of this quarter?

Usui was laid in bed with his eyes closed, his noses felt stuffed with a sore throat.

Luckily nothing too major or serious, just some minor symptoms with mild effects.

He should be recovered in a day or two.

I really thought I was gonna get to hit it off with Yoshikawa today if I talked to her.

The sick boy turns to his side, which faced the gray wall of his room and stared at it in thought.

His room was quite spacious for one a bit average.

Just some anime postures on his wall that contained the likes of "Dragon Ball," "Bleach," "Solo Leveling," etc.

A big flatscreen tv in front of his bed as well next to the door.

However, the most noticeable part of his room.

A shelf of anime girl figurines in bunny outfits.

11 of them in total.

Of course with this in mind, he never let anybody else in his room besides his family and Mayeda.

Nobody else.

I wonder if Yoshikawa even likes anime… heck, I don't even think she'd be interested in the ones I've watched…

Usui was stuck in thought and glanced behind him to see the figurines.

Yeah… I definitely can't let her see this shit.

Suddenly the door flung open.

Scaring the poor sickened boy a bit until he noticed it was just his mother.

A decently tall woman who was just a couple inches shorter than her son.

Her brown hair was in a ponytail, wearing a white apron with a cheerful smile on her face.

She too, also had those black eyes like her son.

"I've made you your favorite chicken noodle soup!" His mother announced with a warm smile.

Usui immediately beamed, his eyes lightened up as he looked down at the soup.

"Yay! Thanks mom!" He smiled.

He began to rub his hands a little in anticipation for this soup.

His mother laid the tray down on his nightstand before beginning to walk away out of his door.

Since her son was sick, she couldn't risk much of him also getting her sick as well.

"By the way…" The mother says and turns around to look at him.

Usui paused and looks back at her.

"Is there anybody you like in school?"

She would ask in a curious tone.

The first thoughts that came into mind for the teenage boy known as Usui Sato.

Yoshikawa Manami…

Her beautiful long hair.

Her kind smile that comforts you.

Her posture.

Her intelligence.

Her demeanor.

Most definitely her personality.

Her body.

Wait…

Her body…

Usui kept thinking more and more.

Those curves?

Hell yeah. That too.

His head tilts to the side as he thinks about what to answer his mom with.

Damn… I've never been the type to take notice…

But I can remember so much about here from just that small moment.

A small smile appears on his face.

It's something I've never felt before with any other person.

Not some small crush. One that'll go away in a few hours.

I genuinely want to know her.

However his self doubts invaded his mind.

He closes his eyes.

A storm of negative thoughts appeared into his mind.

What if I'm only saying that because she's hot?

Am I only acting out of lust?

I don't want to be like any other man out there…

He opens his eyes and glanced back at his figurines.

Those bunny girl figurines.

Usui sighs.

Maybe I'm just genuinely the worst.

A shallow man after all.

He remembers when he tried to explain to his friend on why he liked her.

Even he couldn't explain why he was taken by her.

There were multiple different beautiful women in the past that he looked past yet this was different.

He never felt like this before.

Yet he couldn't pinpoint on why.

Could it genuinely be her body?

Usui looks back at his mom with a small smile.

He answers.

"I'm not too sure yet."

The mother stared at him, processing his words.

She smiles and walks back over to him and sat down.

"Explain further on what you mean you don't know yet." The woman would cradle him in his arms.

Usui closed his eyes, enjoying the warm embrace of his mother.

He tries to think of how to word it out.

"It's just that I think I like this girl but I can't tell if I genuinely do like her or if it's just another teenage boy's fantasy…"

His face was flushed from both the sickness and embarrassment.

His voice was a little raspy and hoarse from his dry throat.

Sigh.

His mom sighed before rubbing his shoulder gently.

She wonders about what to say, her black eyes looked down at the floor before turning to her son.

Maintained eye contact.

"I think that you don't know what it is from how you feel or rather on why. Why not focus on the what?" She advised him with a soft smile.

Huh?

"Don't focus on the feel or why… but focus on the what?" He murmurs.

She nodded with a soft smile to him.

"That's right. You may not need to know how or why. But there's always a what in falling in love."

She undid her ponytail and crossed her arms in thought.

I want to sound really cool and wise to my son.

"Some people don't know how they have a crush. Some may not even know why they have a crush…"

The lady would tap on her chin.

"But there's never no 'what' since it's 'what' catches your attention… you always remember the person, but what makes them distorted in your mind?"

She nodded.

Her son nodded along.

She's right…

What made me fall for Yoshikawa…

He closed his eyes.

Was everything that she shown herself towards me was what really mattered.

Usui turns to his mom with a smile of understanding.

It doesn't matter about her voice, body, demeanor or personality at all.

He nodded with a small, soft smile back.

It was everything that made her, her.

Not just one thing in particular.

"After what you said… I think I do have a girl I like right now."

It was the entire being of her, everything that's Yoshikawa…

That's what made me feel like a stupid schoolboy with a crush for the very first time.

His mother smiled and caressed his cheek in one hand.

"I'm glad to hear that. Let me know who the lucky girl is when you finally bring her." She tells him, words of encouragement flowed throughout the air.

Clearly she wanted her son to pursue whoever this girl was.

Usui nodded with a smile.

"I was gonna do that anyways." He jokes with her.

His mother laughed before giving him a few more pats on the head before walking out to give him privacy and time to recover.

Usui looks back at his gray wall.

Even though it was just a small interaction.

Even if it was just a helping hand, something that should be embarrassed for the rest of my days.

What made her different from all those high school girls in the past…

He looked down at his hand.

His eyes brightened up a bit.

That shy smile.

The accountability.

That stunning beauty she radiated.

That hand that reached out to me despite everybody being there finding it amusing for it to happen to me.

It was all real.

Not something fake.

Not something trying to save face.

It was real.

A woman who looked…

Truly honest and genuine to him for the first time.

Suddenly he felt something rise.

"ACHOO!" He sneezed before he quickly covers his nose with a nearby tissue from the tissue box.

Still, despite how enamored he was by her, he was still sick at the end of the day.

Hmm…

Usui glanced down at his phone.

I wonder what Mayeda is up to right now… since I'm sick, I don't think he'd do anything reckless without me there.

The sick boy shrugs and laid back in bed before closing his eyes.

Eh, whatever. It's Mayeda…

Whether it be school work, girls or anything with school fights.

He'll definitely find a way to make it through regardless.
