They walked the trail having getting a few hours of rest. Alana kept found herself looking up at the sky several times up their trek up the mountain. Sous didn't say anything. No shooting words, no words of positivity. She didn't know the outcome and wanted to not count her chickens before they hatched her mother would say. She smiled thinking of her mother...still missing along with Jacob's mother. The years were getting past her. It was already close to autumno and soon hiems. She had hoped to have spoken to a medium by now to speak to her father but while her time with the sisters was great, she was kept busy and on her toes. She still wanted to go to the Valley of Trey to find the elves who were supplying Apex pack but again, she had been accepted into Hacate and Shadow went without her. And since getting back from school after her suspension, time had been good but she still thought about the Wolves Unite club that was disbanded. Sous sighed. There was so much to do and so little time she felt.
The trail changed from a dirt trail to shrine steps. Both girls exchanged looks and proceeded to walk up the steps to the sixth level of the mountain. It took a while to finish the steps. They had probably wasted an hour alone on them to Alana's dismay.
Once they got to the sixth level, before them were statues. Hundreds of statues. It looked to be about 600, maybe 700 statues.
The girls walked between them, looking at them in the darkness as they may their way toward the witch's lair.
"I think these are the statues of all the warriors who came to battle the demons." Sous said.
Alana's voice hitched in her throat. That meant her siblings statues were probably here. She wanted to take off and search through the sea of marble to find each of them, but she needed to conserve her energy. Sous walked to her and gave her a small hug, a surprised to Alana. She didn't back away and took Sous on her offer. She hugged her back.
"We can't die here," Sous whispered. "We have friends and family to see. Like Shadow, Monica, Kara, Tany, Jacob, and even my new friends: Makala, Zan, Pixie Boy, Randali and..." she paused to look at Alana. "And you."
Alana was never one for crying but hearing those words made her teary eye. She had associates who she spoke to but she felt she could never truly get close to anyone since at the back of her mind, the Day of Demons was forever encroaching on her.
She got out of Sous' hug and wiped her eyes. No wonder Sous had so many close relationships.
The two girls continued walked through thr statues until they came upon a large wooden door that stood about fifteen feet tall. And guarding the door were two creatures. They stood upon legs but their body had tentacles attached to it like squid. Within their hands was a long scythe, each of them had. Their bodies red like the shade of blood, they had loin clothes covering their intimate areas but was clotheless other than that. Their faces had very small beads of eyes, and gum wide mouths with teeth that was also extremely tiny. No ears, and tentacles that moved on its chin like a beard. Their hair on their heads was jet black, greasy and shaggy. These demons stood about ten feet tall, dripping blood as they walked. There was no doubt these demons guarded the door to the witch.
Sous touched the seal on the left side of her neck. Earlier, Alana had picked her to see if the seal would open, but it didn't. They then spent some time practicing more advanced spells that Sous learned in school but didn't have enough practice on. Little baby basilisk coiled itself tighter around Sous' neck as if to prepare itself.
The two girls didn't bother to look at one another. They soared off, each of them getting a demon.
The demon swung it's scythe at Sous.
"Eludere!" Sous screamed out, her wand allowing a shield to block the blow of the scythe while Sous was in the air. She landed and ran around the feet of the demon. "Gladius!" She used her sword to stab at the muscle tendons of the ten foot giant. She heard it moan; it then used the other foot to kick at her. "Eludere!" She screamed once more, barely able to catch the blow. The demon swung its scythe downward where Sous was. She held up the shield but it broke apart into small particles. She flew back, hitting the door hard, and falling to the ground. The demon did a tornado kick at her level, sending her flying into the other direction, crashing into hard stone. The demon walked toward her and threw down its scythe once more. "Parare!" A bigger shield blocked the strike down. Sous used that time to touch her belt for a potion but all she felt was wetness. She looked seeing the potions had broken when she landed on either against the wall or the parameter. "Tsk." Luckily she had taken some potion for stamina and shield but hadn't taken anything to help her heal quickly.
The shield dispersed and used changed her wand back into the sword and stabbed the demon in the back of the ankle. It screamed and fell to one knee, using the scythe as a cane. Sous jumped on the demon's back and struck her sword down on its neck. The demon grabbed Sous by her leg and slammed her down on the concrete breaking her nose.
"SOUS!" Alana screamed out. She slid back from a block she just took from her demon. She turned just in time to the demon, twist Sous' leg, breaking it. Sous screamed out. Alana clenched her teeth.
The demon swung at her with its scythe. She was able to dodge it and release a series of burage attacks; however, as she stabbed toward the demon with her staff, its head was able to match the speed of her strikes. She missed it when the scythe slashed her arm, cutting it off, dropping her staff.
She landed on her feet, wide eyes, stunned. She shook as she saw her cut off arm laying there on the ground with her hand still grasped around the weapon.
Maybe...maybe...they could win if they just ran away. Alana quickly got up and ran toward Sous. The girl was standing, using her sword as a cane. But the demon slapped Sous sending back into a wall once more, slumped over. The sword turned back into the wand, breaking.
Alana ran to Sous, grabbed her collar to try and get her up. She wrapped Sous' arm around her own neck and picked the twelve year up. But Alana was getting weak, the blood dripping from her arm. The demons came closer and then-
Little baby basilisk uncoiled itself from Sous' neck. It flicked its tongue at the demons and then...the demons turned to stone.
For a moment, the girls just remained where they were. Finally Alana ran to the demons and performed a flying kick on the first one then a jump, twist kick to the other. She landed perfectly on the ground as she watched the demons fall, and break into a millions small pieces.
With Sous being helped to walk, the two girls walked as fast as they could before they passed out to the witch. They pushed the door open and there she was.
She sat upon a throne, a cloak covering her head and face. Nothing but skin and bones as she slowly lifted her head to the girls. She said nothing to them.
"Hmm," Alana walked with her might with Sous on her shoulder. She stood before the witch and said, "We're sorry." She bowed, thereby forcing Sous to bow.
When they stood up straight, the witch being as old as she was, sighed. Her bones began to snap, her heart slowed down until it came to a stop, and turned to dust where she sat. She kept herself alive early enough just to be able to get her apology. Upon getting it, she found herself at peace and without a single moment, she let herself go and allowed her spirit to rise.
The two girls collapsed onto the floor. Sous was in tremendous amount of pain from her broken leg and Alana was in the mist of losing blood. It was their responsibility to come down the mountain. It was obvious Sous wouldn't be able to carry Alana and since her wand was broken, there was no magic she could do.
Sous wormed her way closer to Alana and held the girl's hand. Alana looked Sous in the eyes with a single tear falling down her cheek.
"Thanks to you...my people are saved," she whispered to the twelve year old Alpha female. Sous didn't say anything. She just laid with her friend until the end.
