It was as if Kara was setting Zhiliary up to die. Why else would she lie to her mate?
Kara got in the back seat of the car where her own personal driver waited. She instructed the Alpha to drive to the train tracks where she would get off from there.
It wasn't like what it was before, where she could come out from her parents' house and walk to the city hall, and walk to the train tracks where Sous once lived. The Omega lived further out, too far out where the wealthy and powerful lived.
Slam!
The car door shut and she walked to the grove leading to the train tracks.
"Do you want me to escort you?" Her driver asked.
"No, I'll be fine." So she crossed the train tracks and in an instant, all of the memories came flooding back to her. Her playing with the orphans, her meeting Sous, growing up, being a tween and teenager. Sitting on Sous' roof top.
Sous' shack was no more, in fact, the wooded area was no more since it had been developed. The shabby, old apartment buildings and trailers, shacks many of the outcast lived at were all destroyed with newer housing for the wolves.
Kara had no idea where the other species were pushed off to. She knew about the ghettos but she didn't know exactly where they were.
No other wolf had the desire like Sous to make things right, to allow the other species to live within their own rights.
"Oh wow, the Omega to the Alpha, what are you doing here?"
Kara turned to see a group of Omegas walking to their houses. They had groceries in their hands, and seemed to just be out shopping while also conversing with friends.
Kara smiled at them and shrugged. "I had a friend that used to live over here. I just wanted to come by, is all."
"I'm sure you've had plenty of friends," one Omega said.
"Yes, but only one that mattered."
During her stay at Faye's, Sous was able to purchase new clothes and shoes, a new wand, new laptop, and new visual novels. She closed her suitcase and set it to the side, she then followed it up with a duffle bag she slammed onto the ground.
The sixth month was here and it was time for her to transfer. For six months, she would be going on missions with Shadow and then she would finally have to go back to Canas- or where ever that didn't involve Nadia.
She was really excited to see Shadow. It had been years since they seen each other. Yes, they corresponded through letters but that wasn't the same, as most would understand.
Sous also heard he had a daughter, an Alpha that apparently had a habit of talking down to Omegas. And that she was a omeganizer, would just use Omegas for her sexual pleasure and cast them aside like they were trash.
Shadow had asked Sous to help with maybe guiding her down on a better path. A sweat drop appeared over Sous' head. She was in jail for twenty years for killing a good friend. Was she really a good candidate to be a role model?
Makala walked into the room just as Sous' ears began to twitch. The vampire was much quieter on her toes, Sous noticed. She turned to look at the woman who had a tray of croissants on it.
Sous walked over and took a few, and stuffed them into her mouth. Makala sat the tray down and gave Sous a hug.
"It was so good to see you again."
Sous swallowed and smiled at her long time friend. "Ooo," she started. "I forgot to tell you. When I went to Dragon Lair, Daniel was there. Pixie Boy." She watched Makala's brows go high. "He died there...he was always getting into fights and he was killed eventually."
Makala shook her head, disappointed to hear that, but it also made her bring her hand to her face. Back in Hacate, she had a large burn scar on her face because of him. Thanks to Tany, she was able to eventually get rid of the scar.
Sous touched Makala's face, reading her mind when it came to the scar that was once on her there.
"You're beautiful, Makala." Sous said. "You and Faye created wonderful children."
Sous stood on the plank with Makala since Faye was at work as a spirit healer and the two remaining kids were at school. Sous had to say her goodbyes to them last night.
She hugged the vampire and then she turned and began her knew journey of life on the river with Shadow.
Doureena and Zhiliary stood outside on Doureena's beach front house. They watched the waves crash into one another and both Alphas were content with the misty breeze that sailed their way.
They sat down at a round table and was soon offered cold glasses of beer by a maid. After drinking half of their glasses, they turned back to view the ocean.
"How many assassins did you send out?"
"Twenty," Zhiliary said.
Doureena chuckled. "So one for each year she was locked away?"
Zhiliary hadn't thought of it like that so she remained quiet.
"I didn't think Kara was going to go to Vania so soon to see that witch. And the witch said Sous was coming?"
Zhiliary corrected the statement from the Alpha. "No, not the witch you saw but our daughter. The one you gave away. Kara says she's powerful, quite powerful."
Doureena began to wonder what exactly made a witch so powerful. She wasn't sure but she was envious of it. The species that seemed to be able to over ride and overcome all tribulations. It was to be admired.
Both Alphas sighed and leaned back in their chairs.
"How is the progress of the pixies?"
"We're still struggling with them."
Doureena shook her head. "Twenty years and we're still struggling with the pixies."
Kara seemed so far away the next night her and Zhiliary made love. It was like her mind was a million miles away, her eyes just distant black orbs looking into a void Zhiliary couldn't see.
At first Zhiliary hated when Kara got like this during sex, so distant, non responsive. But the Omega had told Zhiliary, it was just something she did sometimes and to not worry about it, to just finish.
Zhiliary would stare at the paint on the wall. Looking at Kara made her feel like she was sleeping with a zombie or a doll. Maybe some Alphas liked their Omegas like that but Zhiliary didn't.
She closed her eyes when she felt herself about to release and then opened them when she was finished.
Kara moved from under her and went to the restroom to wash up. Zhiliary just sat on the bed and when she saw Kara enter back into the room after cleaning herself, she asked, "Who are you thinking of?"
Kara stopped in her tracks to look at Zhiliary. Kara ignored the question though. She got into bed, turned on her side, and went to sleep.
