Warnings
This will be a slice-of-life fanfic with an MC who just wants to learn about everything. He's an amoral, chaotic neutral, science-obsessed kind of guy, but also a weeb and a pervert, but a pervert who knows how to respect women, or at least my version of respect.
This is a harem story, and it will be a big one. I love women, and I plan to give every female character real depth instead of treating them like collectibles. There will be no Rape, no NTR, and no Yaoi; Yuri is undecided. This is an AU, and I'll pull in whatever I want from fiction, but I'll at least try to make it all make sense.
I do not own the characters, world, or source material this fanfiction is based on. All rights belong to their respective creators. This story is written purely for fun and creative expression, with no intention of profit or copyright infringement. I only own my own original characters.
Chapter 1: Failure Through Success
Third Person POV
The late-evening sun was setting, and with it, its warmth and light. Everyone at CERN was preparing to head home; even while working on some of the most important projects for the future or betterment of humanity, they still needed to take breaks.
Well, almost all of the workers at CERN were heading home when a pair of workers were passing a room with the sign DO NOT ENTER; they could still hear the sounds of work coming from it.
"Hey, you really think he's staying here again? You know, I've never once seen him go home," one of the workers said to her colleague. She was an Asian woman with short black hair, black eyes, and typical Asian features.
"I honestly couldn't say, mate; I've only ever seen him in the break room a few times. He'd just pop in for a cuppa and then head straight back to his experiments."
Her colleague replied. He was a British man with long blonde hair in a ponytail and bright blue eyes. He wasn't handsome, but he wasn't ugly.
"He's a bit weird, but I must say he has a great mind; if only he were a bit more normal," the woman said as she looked at the door, picturing the man they were talking about.
"You know what they say: the smarts always have something weird about them. But let's get home and see what Mello's up to," the man said as he looked at the woman, but seeing her gaze focused on the door, he looked at it too.
They both stopped for a brief moment, looking at the door and wondering about the man behind it. Eventually, taking their minds off the man, they continued out of the building.
Unaware of them, the very man they were talking about was watching them through a camera he had installed on the door.
"Those fucking, fucking..." he said, not knowing what to call them. While he liked that they complimented his genius, they did call him weird, and to almost everyone but him, he could be called so.
He looked like the average American: short black hair spread messily on his head, dark brown eyes, and, while he was not obese, he was rather frail, yet tall, standing at 6'1, just above the standard set by almost all Western women.
A/N: Just want to let everyone know this is a joke, so haha, but if it's too sensitive for you, then I would suggest you leave. It's explained more in A/T.
"Arrg, forget them, let's finish this; the first step to my life's work is almost completed, just one final touch."
He said as he wheeled his chair quickly to another desk with many components on it and a relatively large, chamber-like item in the middle.
He flipped through his notes, just to triple-check his work. Since he was dealing with something only theoretically proven, he had to be safe for himself and everyone around him.
[Ok, this is scientist Kayden Leonard; the work I have put most of my adult life into is about to be proven. The theory of dark matter will be proven and made an actual reality, accessible to all of humanity. I have theorized that dark matter is typically "phase-shifted" relative to ordinary matter. It barely interacts with light or atoms, which is why it appears invisible and only reveals itself through gravity.]
He spoke into a recorder, stopped, and looked at his notes. He refused to mess this up- his life's work, something that could change the world.
He refused to let everything go wrong just because he was overconfident; he could be prideful, but he refused to be arrogant, not for this.
[My hypothesis is that under an extremely powerful, rapidly changing gravitational field combined with a quantum vacuum resonance, dark matter can be forced to interact with ordinary matter for a tiny fraction of a second.]
He stopped again, this time not to look at his notes, but to head outside of his lab and put them into a box far, far away from the experimentation lab, his own lab, so that even if he failed or something went wrong, humanity could still complete or redo the experiment.
[I have put all my notes in a room, inside a safe, where, if this fails or goes wrong, you all can use it to build from my failures. Back to the subject: I have built something I call a Resonance Chamber. Inside is a superconducting ring cooled close to absolute zero, ultra-powerful lasers that create a standing quantum field, and artificial micro-gravity generators, making it, for all intents and purposes, a perfect vacuum.]
[The machine is designed to "shake" spacetime at an incredibly tiny scale. My calculations predict that if the frequency is exact, dark matter particles will briefly enter the same interaction state as normal matter.]
[I have looked into the possible applications of dark matter, and ways it could be used include serving as an endless propellant for spacecraft, enabling advanced artificial gravity generators, or even "invisibility" cloaking devices that bend light completely around an object.]
[But alas, nobody believed me, for some stupid reason like my manic behavior and how much energy it would cost, but if I am right, then we won't have to worry about energy again. So I'm doing it myself, and all you fuckers will be proven wrong. If this is found and shown to the public, remove that from the record.]
[I will begin the experiment, and for anyone who may find this, or even if it is found and something went wrong, tell my family, friends, and everyone thanks, and that I care for them lots. Also, destroy any electronics I had in my name or in Kael Dranoel's name. Look, don't look; I'd be dead, so couldn't care less. But look at your own peril.]
With those last words, he put the recorder right outside his room in a safe; it had many lights and was pretty tall and heavy, which is why it was placed on a flat surface with wheels, with the code on top.
Since it was meant to be opened by everyone, it was meant to protect the recorder. For extra insurance in case the experiment messed with it, he made a transcript of the recording.
But he also cut off his section of the room from anything connected to or within CERN's sphere of control, so they would not make a fuss about how dangerous it was. He used things he had bought or built, like a power generator, computer, hell, even the lights.
While he was not arrogant about his experiments compared to everything else, he had pride comparable to the devil's, at least as everyone around him perceived him.
So he started the experiment, pushing and holding a button.
At first... nothing happened, and Kayden looked worried but had faith- not in any God, but in himself, his work, his research, and especially in his heart.
Strange as it may be for a scientist to trust his heart more than fact, Kayden made sure his heart and mind were aligned before doing anything.
Then the sensors detected an impossibly large amount of gravitational mass appearing inside the chamber; the chamber began to bend laser beams. Unknown to Kayden, the objects around the chamber became slightly heavier.
In exactly 0.43 seconds... a tiny sphere appeared inside the chamber; it wasn't black, but it wasn't transparent either. It looked like a distortion, as if air had become a solid; it had measurable mass.
The instruments Kayden had been using to conduct the experiment worked exactly as they were supposed to. The tiny sphere of mass bent light exactly as predicted.
Dark matter had finally interacted with normal matter.
Kayden could see it, and a huge, ear-to-ear smile lit his face under the chamber's lights, for no reason other than that his theory had been proven correct, all by himself.
While he used the resources provided by CERN, he did all the calculations, all the minor trial and error, everything by himself, never asking for help or letting anyone into what he was doing.
He only let his boss know that he had something very big in the works, and because of his previous work, his boss trusted him.
But Kayden made one mistake; everything went as planned, but that was the mistake.
He had spent all his time and focus calculating everything inside the chamber.
Never once had he asked himself why it would only stay in the chamber; it was made for it, but humans were also made in the womb, and look how far they have come.
The gravitational field was never confined to the sphere; it only appeared to be, just like black holes and other celestial bodies appear to be stopped in place.
They are like tornadoes; when a tornado is close to you, it looks like it is staying still. Like a black hole and other celestial bodies, it moves relative to its position.
For four‑tenths of a second, the gravitational pull around the chamber spiked: atoms closer to the chamber were yanked just a little faster than those farther away.
Every cell in Kayden's body experienced a slightly different pull, stretching him at a microscopic level until his tissues failed all at once.
But since it moved relative to Earth, Kayden didn't notice at first; at one second, he was at the height of his life; the next, his entire body burst at the seams.
Yet the soon-to-be catastrophe ended as quickly as it began: when Kayden died, his finger lifted off the button, cutting the power, collapsing the artificial gravity, and forcing the dark matter particle back into its ghostly, non-interacting state.
It slipped harmlessly into the Earth's crust, leaving everything behind as it had been in its state of interaction.
The room was a mess, for lack of a better term, and Kayden had his entire body busted, his body fluids like blood, grey matter, and viscera all over the walls in a clockwise direction.
The only good thing about it is he died quickly, not knowing what happened. This was the end for Kayden, but not for his soul, which was sent far beyond where it was supposed to go.
A/T: So, how was it?
I don't really know much about the science I wrote. I used ChatGPT for most of that, but I did want it to be as accurate as possible, so I used a lot of AI and Google to double-check things.
About the British and Western women stuff, it was meant as a joke, in case that wasn't clear. Well, not so much the British thing. I used AI to give him a British accent, and I did the same with the Asian woman, but nothing really needed to be changed there.
Also, I got most of the information from the internet, so if anyone dislikes it... :| I'm a Western boy; by the way, I am saying this for a reason. Well, technically I'm a boy, but I can drive; I've actually been driving. Does anyone have any tips or things to take notes on that might help anyone feel better?
I love space, as you can probably tell from how I talk about it, and I also love women, but I have my own way of respecting them.
This story is a place where I can just throw ideas to the wind. If I want a teacher in DxD, then he can have a small arc there without me needing to make a whole new story.
So throw your ideas at me. I'm open to any world and any premise, but know that I have the final say. If your ideas don't get chosen, don't get mad.
Please leave a comment, review, and Power Stones. I'm pretty sure I covered everything you might want to know in the warnings at the start, so you've been warned.
