Chapter 73 - A Dragon's Quiet Fear

After returning to the room, Leon found it very quiet inside. He called out softly for Rossweise, but there was no answer.

"She fell asleep so fast," Leon said to himself. He gently closed the door, took off his shoes in the hallway, and walked quietly to the bedside. He carefully climbed onto the bed.

But the water bed was very sensitive. As soon he put his weight on it, the whole bed tilted toward his side. Rossweise's foot, under the blanket, accidentally brushed against the back of his hand.

Leon's heart jumped. Rossweise's feet always brought back memories he tried to forget. He swallowed nervously and quietly moved his hand away, slowly sliding to the far side of the bed.

Once he was lying down, Leon let out a sigh of relief. He pulled a corner of the blanket over himself but still did not dare to get fully under it. If a real dragon was lying next to him, he would have been burned to a crisp by now. Would he still be acting so careful?

Leon turned his head to look at Rossweise. The female dragon was already in a deep sleep. Her breathing was even, and her sleeping face was peaceful and beautiful.

The truth was, Leon liked watching Rossweise sleep. She was beautiful. Even though she was his enemy, Leon had to admit that fact. She was truly beautiful, like a painting.

Especially on such a quiet night. The light, pleasant smell filled the room. The water bed perfectly held her delicate body. Moonlight came through the window, shining on her silver hair.

In this very peaceful atmosphere, with her incredible beauty so close to him, her face was flawless.

For a moment, Leon was completely captivated.

Then.

Under the blanket, over Rossweise's chest, a soft purple light began to glow.

Leon knew something was wrong and quickly looked away. He took deep breaths to calm himself down.

"What is the saying for the Three Honors of Dragon Slaying?"

"Uh."

"As, as honoring betrayal as an honor, no, that is not it. As wanting beauty, no, that is not it either."

He gripped the sheet tightly, forcing himself not to think these messy thoughts. But once the dragon mark reacted, it was like a rock rolling down a hill. It was impossible to stop.

Leon felt heat spreading through his whole body. He could not get comfortable.

"Uhh, mmm."

A quiet whimper came from Rossweise next to him. She was probably also affected by the dragon mark's reaction.

Leon shut his eyes tightly, pretending nothing was wrong.

Rustle.

The sound of skin rubbing against the blanket, which gently soothed Leon's restless heart.

He could not help himself. He opened his eyes to sneak a look at Rossweise. He saw her slowly moving her arm out from under the blanket. Her chest was rising and falling in a very tempting rhythm.

And that soft purple glow.

It turned out to be a small purple night light, about the size of a finger. Leon was frozen in place, completely stunned.

This tricky mother dragon, tricking me again.

Rossweise slowly opened her eyes and smiled at Leon. "Hey."

"Hey my foot. What is the point of hiding a light under the blanket?" Leon exclaimed.

"Is it a problem if I hide a light?" Rossweise shot back. She put the small night light on the bedside table. "I found it on the toy rack earlier. I thought it would be fun to tease you with it. But from your reaction just now."

She looked down, then back up at Leon, meeting his eyes. "You felt something for me, did not you?"

Leon looked away and turned his back to Rossweise. "No. I am going to sleep. Do not talk to me."

"Tsk." Rossweise pursed her lips and stopped teasing him.

After this little joke, the couple did not feel as awkward as they did at the start. They both relaxed a little. Rossweise also turned over, lying back to back with Leon.

However, she did not pull the blanket all to her side. She left some for Leon, so he would not get cold in the night. What if he caught a cold and gave it to their daughter?

Thinking this, Rossweise slowly closed her eyes. Sleep soon took over both of them.

But just as Rossweise was about to fall asleep, she felt something on her shoulder. She swatted at it sleepily. "What, if you need something, just say it. Do not touch me."

A quiet voice came from behind her. "I did not touch you."

"Who tapped my shoulder then?" Rossweise turned her head to look.

The next moment.

A startled scream, and the water bed shook violently. Before Leon could understand what was happening, he felt a wave of warmth and softness in his arms.

When he realized what was happening, Rossweise was already curled up in his embrace. Her hands were gripping his shoulders tightly. Even her tail had come out and was wrapped around his waist. The softness of her chest was pressed against Leon's side. Her legs were curled up, and she was trembling in his arms.

Her delicate scent, mixed with the light smell of shower gel, filled Leon's senses, making him dizzy. Her heartbeat was fast, and her body was much warmer. It was clear she had been scared by something.

Rossweise was holding on so tightly. With her sexy nightgown and their bodies pressed together, Leon's heartbeat sped up too.

But seeing Rossweise so panicked, Leon did not have time to enjoy it or make fun of her. He quickly asked, "What is wrong? Why are you so scared?"

"T there is a spider."

"A spider?" Leon looked to where she was looking.

Sure enough, there was a black, hairy spider on the pillow.

Leon remembered seeing a photo in the album today. It showed a young Rossweise, scared and crying because of a spider.

Could it be that she still had a fear from that time?

"It is okay, I will get rid of it for you, hey, hey, calm down."

As soon as Leon looked down, he saw Rossweise gathering strong dragon flames in her hand. The magical power seemed even stronger than when they fought.

"I am going to kill it," Rossweise said, as if she was facing a powerful enemy.

"Hey, hey, wait a minute. This is a water bed. If you use dragon flames, this room will become a sauna," Leon said quickly, pressing down on her wrist.

After a short pause, Leon tried to comfort her. He put his arm around her shoulder and patted her back gently. "It is okay. I will get rid of it right now. Just calm down, okay? Do not be afraid."

He carefully let go of Rossweise, crawled over, pinched the spider, opened the window, and threw it out. But when he touched the spider, Leon felt something strange. It did not feel like the hairy texture of a real spider. It felt more like, rubber?

Wait, could this be another one of his sister's plans to get them to have babies?

The thought made Leon shiver. He did not think about it more and quickly closed the window.

"Alright, it is gone now," Leon reassured her.

Rossweise pursed her lips, still feeling a little scared. After a moment of hesitation, she said in a coquettish voice, "I will sleep on the inside. You sleep on the outside."

"No problem. You can sleep wherever you want."

"Mm."

Rossweise put her tail away and got back under the covers, but she still seemed uneasy.

Leon also lay back down, this time getting fully under the blanket.

He felt that Rossweise might need someone closer to her right now. After lying there for a while, Leon glanced at Rossweise. She was staring at the ceiling with her eyes wide open.

She could not understand how a spider could be here. Rossweise had always been afraid of these little bugs. She found their hairy bodies, their many legs, and their eyes terrifying. Even just reading about them made her shiver.

This fear could not be changed. Even with the long life of a dragon, time would not make it go away.

In the past, whenever Rossweise was scared by a spider, she would always go to Isha for comfort. But her sister was not here now.

"If you are still scared, you can, hold my hand," the man next to her said in a deep voice.

Rossweise blinked a little. Then she closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly let it out.

"Give it here."

Leon was confused. "What?"

"Your hand."

"Oh, right, okay."

There was a rustling sound under the blanket as Leon reached out his hand. Rossweise also moved her hand closer. But something did not seem right.

Leon lifted the blanket and raised their hands. He teased her, "How is holding just my pinky finger going to make you feel safe?"

Rossweise's face turned a little red. "Then how should we hold?"

"Silly, like this."

With that, Leon laced all five of his fingers together with Rossweise's. Their fingers intertwined, and an immediate feeling of safety washed over them.
