Chapter 76 - A difficult question

EMMA

"Emma!" Xander called from somewhere behind me.

I increased my strides nearly tripping over the gown Lita had insisted I wear for the council meeting.

"Emma, Wait," he called again.

I frowned as his footsteps got closer.

Why wouldn't he just leave me alone? What did he think he could possibly say now to make up for what he and his brothers had done?

And then as I rounded the corner, I felt his body heat and his voice right at my ear.

"Emma-" he began as he wrapped his hand around my wrist.

Ignoring the prickle of awareness racing across my skin at the contact, I pulled my hand out of his reach.

Whipping around, I glared at him.

"Stop following me and leave me the hell alone," I snapped.

Xander, his expression hurt and pleading, sighed. "I know you're mad at me, but please let's talk."

Before the words were out of his mouth, I pushed his hand away. This time, he did not follow me but I felt his eyes on me all the way down the passage.
